Chapter 15
“It’s almost twelve o’clock, why don’t we go eat first.”
“Lu Anning, what do you think?”
Whenever Lu Anning is around, her mother would habitually choose to seek her opinion first.
Lu Anning nodded in agreement.
She wasn’t really hungry as she didn’t have breakfast until almost nine o’clock, but her parents got up early so they must be hungry.
After parking the car in the open space next to the state-owned hotel, Lu Anning got out and looked around the hotel with its unique contemporary characteristics.
There were four big red characters “State-owned Hotel” written on the doorplate in the middle, and a big red star right above it.
On the left and right sides of the four dark red semi-inlaid glass doors, “Self-reliance” and “Hard Struggle” were written respectively. It was a decoration style she had never seen in her previous life. It was very retro and simple.
“Don’t just stand there. It’s hot outside. Come in.”
Pushing open the door and entering the hotel, what comes into view is a wooden half-person-high reception desk, inside which stands a middle-aged woman with two pigtails and a friendly smile.
When the other party saw them come in, especially when he saw the military uniforms of Lu’s father and Sui Jingxing, the smile on his face became even bigger.
“Comrades, take a look at what you want to eat. The blackboard behind me lists all the dishes we serve today.”
“Okay, thank you, let’s take a look first.”
Sui Jingxing interrupted the other party in time, otherwise she might have read out all the names of the dishes on the blackboard.
“Lu Anning, what do you want to eat?”
Three voices, three pairs of eyes, all looked at Lu Anning, waiting for her answer.
As they stared, she made the sign of five with her hands.
“Chowder, huh?”
“Um.”
The waiter behind the counter then realized that this pretty and elegant lesbian seemed unable to speak.
She concealed her inner surprise and maintained the proper expression on her face.
“Hello, I want a stew, a plate of braised pork, stir-fried pork liver, and spicy potato shreds, half a pound of rice, and four steamed buns. Thank you.”
After ordering the food, the four of them found a seat against the wall and sat down.
It was dinner time, and besides them, there were three other tables with people sitting there waiting for their food.
From the moment the four of them entered the door, the attention of other diners in the state-owned restaurant was attracted by them.
The two men were dressed in military uniforms, standing tall and strong. The younger one was incredibly tall, and he looked like a small mountain when he stood there.
The two female comrades were not short either, the older one exuded a gentle and elegant temperament. The younger girl had jade-like skin and bright eyes, and it was obvious that she came from a well-off family.
It’s normal to think about it. With two soldiers in the family, how bad can the conditions be?
The four of them ignored the stares from others and chatted among themselves.
“Lu Anning, do you want me to send you some books from home?”
“Will it be inconvenient?”
She had read about some of the events of that era in some books before, but learning about them from books and experiencing them personally were two different things.
Books may be embellished, but life is very realistic.
“No, we will select it for you in advance.”
“If you are almost done reading it, please write to us in advance and I will ask your brother to go to the bookstore to buy it for you.”
“Can I go to the bookstore later? I want to take a look.”
she asked, writing on the paper.
“Of course, it will be a little later after dinner. Our appointment with Doctor Fan is at 3:30, so there are two and a half hours in between, which is enough time for us to go to the department store and the bookstore.”
She wanted to go to the bookstore in person to see what types of books were being sold, and pick out some that interested her and take them home.
Although her personality is completely different from the original owner, her preferences for books are very similar.
They don’t pick genres or start from their interests. As long as they have a book in their hands, they can quickly immerse themselves in the sea of books. Their strong memory makes them extremely efficient in reading. It is not an exaggeration to say that they read a lot of books.
After lunch, they went to Xinhua Bookstore first.
As soon as he entered the two-story building, a familiar smell of ink hit him in the face, and Lu Anning felt that he might have stepped into heaven.
“Jingxing, accompany Lu Anning and take your time to choose. Don’t be in a hurry. Your mother and I will sit by the side for a while.”
“good.”
Lu Anning did not rush to pick books. Instead, he stood in front of the guide rack next to the gate and memorized the floor plan of the two-story bookstore, as well as the types and divisions of books sold.
The first major category she selected was books related to current primary and secondary schools.
When the college entrance examination is resumed in two years, she will definitely need to take it.
Although the original owner had completed high school courses by self-study, she had only been in school for two weeks and did not even have an elementary school education.
She had information gaps about the future, and knew that if she wanted to do something in the future, academic qualifications would be the primary stepping stone.
It’s not necessary, but it’s certainly better.
Sui Jingxing saw her standing in front of the bookshelf, picking up a book and flipping through it very quickly, but he was not sure how much she had read.
He heard that Lu Anning didn’t seem to have been to school and had been studying at home. In order to help, he leaned over to her ear and whispered, “Lu Anning, do you need me to help you choose?”
Before joining the army, he skipped a grade and finished high school. Even though six years had passed, he had not forgotten all the knowledge he had acquired.
Lu Anning wanted to refuse, but after thinking for a while, he wrote on the paper: “Can you help me ask the staff where the “Self-Study Series of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry” is?”
She just glanced at the bookshelf and didn’t see that set of books.
Currently, there are two mathematics, physics and chemistry textbooks in middle schools, one is “Industrial Basic Knowledge” and the other is “Agricultural Basic Knowledge”. Both books are very thin and only cover very little physics and chemistry knowledge.
From the books she had read before, she knew that many of the questions for the first college entrance examination seemed to come from a series of self-study books. If she bought them when the college entrance examination was resumed, they would definitely be in short supply.
Prepare in advance while she has information gap.
Even if she doesn’t need it herself, she can prepare it for her sister-in-law in advance.
Not long after Sui Jingxing left, he came back with a thick stack of books.
“It was originally placed at the bottom of this bookshelf, but it was sold out, so someone went to the warehouse to get it.”
“Do you want all of these?”
“Um.”
“I need to pick out other books for a while, do you want to wait over there?”
“It’s okay. It’s just a few books. It’s not heavy.”
Compared to the weight in his hand, he was even more worried about leaving Lu Anning here alone.
Seeing that he refused, Lu Anning did not force it.
I picked two books from this bookshelf and turned to the art book section.
