The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s
The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 44: First Meeting with the Parents

“Uh, who is this young lady?”

Shen Yuerong asked her son, but her gaze was fixed intently on Qin Tianru, her heart swelling with excitement.

Good! Her son had finally started dating. Little did anyone know how much she had worried about her eldest son’s romantic life.

Xiao Han was handsome and well-educated. Aside from his somewhat immature and impulsive temperament, she thought her son was quite a catch—definitely excellent husband material.

Back when Xiao Han was still studying, she hadn’t pressed him about his personal life. But now, half a year after graduation, he still showed no interest in romance.

A while ago, several neighbors had introduced him to nice young women, but he had refused every one, unwilling to even meet them.

It was downright maddening.

In this era, men and women married young—it was common to wed at sixteen or seventeen. Even if someone was still in school, they could still marry and have children without any issues.

Now that her son had taken over the family business and had been managing it quite successfully for over half a year, his career was gradually stabilizing.

As the saying goes, “First marry, then establish a career.” Naturally, it was time to seriously consider his personal life. But alas, her eldest son was as dense as a block of wood when it came to matters of the heart.

Who would have thought that after this trip, he’d come home with a delicate, lovely young woman? How could she not be shocked and thrilled?

For a moment, she had almost thought her eldest son was doomed to be a lifelong bachelor.

Qi Han took Qin Tianru’s hand and pulled her forward gently. With utmost solemnity, he introduced her to his parents: “Father, Mother, this is Qin Tianru. Her nickname is Huanhuan. She’s the woman I’ve chosen to be my wife. I’ve decided she’s the one for me, and I hope you’ll bless our union.”

Qi Yuanhua and his wife were momentarily stunned. They hadn’t expected their eldest son to make such a direct declaration, catching them completely off guard.

Qin Tianru was also surprised by her partner’s straightforward introduction. Though taken aback, she couldn’t help feeling pleased.

“Uncle, Auntie, it’s nice to meet you. I’m very happy to make your acquaintance.”

“Ah, yes, yes! Auntie is very happy to meet you too!” Shen Yuerong quickly regained her composure and eagerly took the young woman’s hand.

Shen Yuerong was thoroughly satisfied with her future daughter-in-law at first sight. The girl was clearly sweet and endearing, especially when she smiled—her expression was so soft and charming it melted hearts.

This was exactly the kind of girl she had always dreamed of having as a daughter!

It was a pity that, although she did have a daughter, the girl’s temperament was anything but gentle and refined. Compared to other well-mannered young ladies, her own daughter always fell short, leaving Shen Yuerong sighing in resignation.

But what could she do? No matter what her daughter was like, she was still her own flesh and blood. She had no choice but to accept it.

Now, however, Heaven had sent her this sweet, adorable girl. Though not her biological daughter, a daughter-in-law was half a daughter in its own right.

So, in a way, this was the universe making up for her long-held regret.

Though Qi Yuanhua hadn’t spoken much, he was equally pleased. The girl had clear, honest eyes, a gentle demeanor, and carried herself with grace and confidence—clearly, she came from a good family.

He and his wife had married for love, so naturally, they hoped their son would also find someone he truly cherished.

Only then could the couple live in harmony and happiness.

“You’ve just arrived—are you hungry? Is there anything you’d like to eat? I can make it for you.”
