After a moment’s hesitation, he nodded. “Fine then. The clinic will take you too. I’ll make an announcement later and see if anyone else with medical experience wants to join. You can all study under Old Li.”

If someone from the village could really learn and become a doctor, it would be a good thing. If not, they’d make do until the town could send another doctor.

Chang Meili hadn’t expected the village chief to agree so easily. But when she heard he planned to bring in more people, her expression darkened. Frowning, she said directly, “Village Chief, the current village doctor is still injured. Wouldn’t it be too much for him to take on so many students?”

Chang Suisui sneered, “Then if you’re really worried, don’t go. Wanting everything both ways—typical double standard dog…”

Chang Meili’s eyes went wide. “Who are you calling a dog?! Chang Suisui, you’re too much!”

She was about to yell more when she caught sight of the cold glint in Chang Suisui’s eyes and instinctively backed down, inching closer to the village chief for protection. “Vi–Village Chief, I–I was just speaking the truth! Look at Chang Suisui, she’s clearly trying to hog the village doctor position because she’s afraid I’ll outshine her!”

Xie Gui frowned, then snorted, “What’s there for her to be afraid of? Afraid of your family’s ancestral diarrhea remedy?”

He still remembered the day Xie Jianguo was brought over reeking of… that. The memory made him grimace.

Chang Meili’s face turned even uglier. She knew the village chief held that incident against her.

Pressing her lips together, she spoke decisively, “Village Chief, I demand a fair competition for the village doctor position!”

If she didn’t fight now, Chang Suisui would definitely overshadow her. She’d spent her last life always being second to Chang Suisui. In this one, everything Suisui had, she would take.

It was just a village doctor job—nothing she couldn’t handle. If not for her spring water mysteriously vanishing, she wouldn’t be afraid of Chang Suisui at all!

With that thought, her gaze toward Chang Suisui grew increasingly defiant.

Xie Gui glanced between the two and sighed heavily, waving his hand. “Fine, we’ll leave it at that.”

He was exhausted.

Chang Meili, seeing the village chief leave, quickly followed—but not without first throwing a smug look at Chang Suisui. “I’m going to tell Jianguo-ge this good news right away. I bet he’s missing me right now…”

Chang Suisui couldn’t hold back a laugh. “In that case, you better tell your Hang-ge too. After all, he misses you just as much.”

Sure enough, the moment those words left her mouth, the village chief’s expression turned even colder.

Chang Meili had only meant to flaunt her connection with Xie Jianguo, but Chang Suisui had to go and bring up Zhao Hang, that scumbag—in front of the village chief no less!

Just as expected, Xie Gui’s face darkened further upon hearing that.

Chang Meili shot a vicious glare at Chang Suisui before scrambling after him. “Uncle Xie, listen to me, about Zhao Hang…”

Chang Suisui watched her retreating figure with a smirk. Thinking about how smug Chang Meili had been just moments ago, her eyes narrowed slightly—and with a wave of her hand, something instantly appeared in her palm.
