Chapter 101: Just the Relationship You Think
Slap!
Lu Zhixing couldn’t bear it any longer and slapped Zhou Xinyue hard in front of everyone: “Shut up, stop talking! You’re coming with me to the hospital!”
He gritted his teeth and used great force to drag Zhou Xinyue toward the door, not daring to glance at Xie Yunshu again, but deep down a wave of sadness surged. He couldn’t imagine how he had been so blind before, taking Zhou Xinyue’s pitiful appearance to take it out on Yunshu!
Zhou Xinyue shook her head desperately: “I’m not going! I don’t have a mental illness! Xie Yunshu is the sick one, she should be sent to the psychiatric ward! Lu Zhixing, didn’t you see her flirting with that man? That man is her lover, she’s a slut!”
Zheng Ju’s face darkened. How could Captain Shen tolerate such insults from a lunatic like her?
“Old Zhang, send someone to take this patient to Haicheng Hospital! Don’t let her affect the other comrades!”
With a single order, two police officers from the station quickly came out, ignoring her protests and curses, forcibly taking Zhou Xinyue toward Haicheng Hospital. No matter how much she resisted or cursed, she was to be forcibly sent to the psychiatric ward for treatment.
“Wait.” Shen Subai’s voice was calm and detached, with no trace of emotion, but Zheng Ju felt a sudden tightening in his chest. This woman was truly crazy, daring to say anything!
His tone grew even sterner: “Make her shut up, send her to the hospital immediately!”
Shen Subai calmly approached the struggling Zhou Xinyue but fixed his gaze on Lu Zhixing: “Unmediated fornication is what you call an improper relationship between a man and a woman, and you should know that best, since you’ve experienced it firsthand.”
That one sentence drained the color from Lu Zhixing’s face. Everyone here knew that he and Zhou Xinyue had just divorced before this whole mess started. Although it wasn’t by his own will, the truth was undeniable.
If anyone should feel ashamed, it was him and Zhou Xinyue.
“You… wah…”
Zhou Xinyue wasn’t willing to give up and tried to curse even more, but the police officers forcibly took her away. Lu Zhixing bit his lip and lowered his proud head in front of Xie Yunshu: “I’m sorry…”
Xie Yunshu frowned, her eyes full of disgust: “The one you owe an apology to is Xiaowei. Since you’re his father, you have to take responsibility. But in truth, you’re the one who ruined him!”
Zhou Xinyue abused Xiaowei to win Lu Zhixing’s pity, using a child’s suffering as a tool for her own favor. Even if Lu Zhixing knew nothing, he was not innocent in this!
If it weren’t for wanting a better life for Xiaowei in the future, Xie Yunshu wouldn’t want to say a word to Lu Zhixing. But seeing the child’s hollow, desperate eyes, she toned down her disgust and softened her voice: “Lu Zhixing, compared to empty words, Xiaowei is far more pitiful than Zhou Xinyue. If you want to be a savior, focus more on him.”
Lu Zhixing was moved, his eyes filled with pain and affection: “Yunshu, I’ll change everything you said. Since marrying Zhou Xinyue, I haven’t spent a single night in our old home. I married her out of necessity and haven’t touched her…”
This had nothing to do with Xie Yunshu. Before she could say anything, Shen Subai interrupted.
“Dr. Lu, your wife has already been taken to the hospital. Don’t you need to sign the admission papers?” Shen Subai was taller than him and carried an overwhelming oppressive presence. His tone was calm but carried subtle sarcasm: “I believe the hospital requires the husband’s signature.”
He emphasized “personally.” Lu Zhixing thought back to when he signed the papers to admit Xie Yunshu before…
Regardless of whether they had slept together, legally Lu Zhixing and Zhou Xinyue were husband and wife now, with no relation to Xie Yunshu.
Lu Zhixing’s face turned even uglier. He knew well that Yunshu and the tall man in front of him had no relationship, but the way they stood together still hurt his eyes. His tone sharpened: “Captain Shen, what happens between Yunshu and me is none of your business.”
Shen Subai raised an eyebrow. His serious and stern face strangely carried a hint of roguishness: “Only after the divorce is it no longer your business, Dr. Lu. Don’t you understand this principle?”
Xie Yunshu pressed her lips, doubting whether she had heard it right. A righteous captain like Shen would never say something like that if he wasn’t deeply involved. If it hadn’t been for meeting Shen Subai today, she really wouldn’t have been able to get Zhou Xinyue sent to the psychiatric ward.
Zhou Xinyue cannot have contact with Xiaowei, at least for now Xiaowei would no longer be abused. The Lu family still had some pride—even if selfish and cold, they wouldn’t harm a child.
Thinking this, Xie Yunshu sincerely thanked Shen Subai: “Captain Shen, thank you.”
Shen Subai withdrew his gaze, nodded to Zheng Ju, then took a few steps outside before turning back to Xie Yunshu: “No need to sell boxed lunches at noon? It’s already past ten.”
Huh? Already past ten?
Xie Yunshu didn’t bother looking at Lu Zhixing again and hurriedly ran outside: “Captain Shen, I’m leaving first. I’ll treat you to a meal another day!”
Within a second, she was already riding her bike a couple of blocks away. Lu Zhixing hadn’t even reacted yet.
His gaze toward Shen Subai was filled with genuine hostility: “What’s your relationship with Yunshu?”
Having been married to Yunshu for so long, he had never heard of this person before. Judging from Zheng Ju and his father’s attitude, although they called him Captain Shen, he was definitely more than just a squad leader!
Shen Subai chuckled lightly: “Just the relationship you think.”
Lu Zhixing felt like he’d been doused with cold water. He refused and angrily retorted: “No way, you’re talking nonsense! Yunshu only divorced me out of anger, we’ll get back together!”
Shen Subai sneered and glanced at him: “I didn’t say anything.”
It was Lu Zhixing who insisted on thinking that way. Deep down, he knew Xie Yunshu would never return but still clung to unrealistic hopes. In some ways, he was suited to Zhou Xinyue.
Shen Subai faintly smirked, then turned back and said to Zheng Ju: “The project will start after the festival. I will apply for a transfer. When the time comes, I’ll be counting on you, Director Zheng.”
Director Zheng happily agreed: “We’re all working for the country. No trouble at all. See you after the festival.”
Shen Subai nodded slightly, no longer looking at Lu Zhixing, strode out of the police station, and got on his bike. As he passed by the big letters of Haicheng Hospital, he sneered quietly inside: Their eyesight is really poor!
Old Zhang from the station couldn’t help but ask curiously: “Director Zheng, this Captain Shen seems pretty important?”
Even a petty cop like him could tell that Lu Vice Director seemed afraid of this young man. But just from the title, how impressive can a squad leader be?
Director Zheng sighed: “The Shen family from Jingbei.”
The Shen family from Jingbei? Not the Shen family he knew?
Old Zhang was smart enough not to ask more, but he muttered twice: This Lu family is really unlucky. To have such embarrassing things happen right in front of Captain Shen, the title of Vice Director is probably gone for good…
