Chapter 124: “Xie Yunshu, Your Temper Is Really Bad”
The word “younger sister” coming from such a serious guy’s mouth made Xie Yunshu feel inexplicably a little amused.
She touched her nose and said, “Just call me by my name.”
Brother and sister—why does that sound so creepy?
The meal was lively. Except for Shen Subai, everyone else chatted energetically, mostly revolving around Xie Yunshu.
All of Xie Yunshu’s architectural theory knowledge came from textbooks. Now that she finally met real architects in person, she was eager to ask questions, so she was happy to treat everyone to the meal.
The two young men had no resistance to looking at a pretty girl with curious and admiring eyes, and they practically poured out everything they knew. Even usually shy Chen Qiangsheng spoke more than usual.
Xie Yunshu listened attentively while adding more dishes. Her eyes stayed on the two architects, eating while seriously listening and taking the chance to ask questions she hadn’t figured out before.
Chen Qiangsheng’s ears turned red. He looked down and mustered courage: “I still have several professional books from college. If you want to read them, I can give them to you.”
Zhou Yue sighed, frustrated that the young guy got there first!
Xie Yunshu nodded repeatedly, “Thank you! I’ll definitely treat you to a meal alone sometime.”
Across from her, Shen Subai’s expression was indifferent. He put down his spoon and said coolly, “The afternoon is tight on time. We’ll practice riding the motorcycle for a while, plus some common repair knowledge. I’ll tell you more during dinner tonight.”
The table went quiet.
Tian Hao looked at Xie Yunshu, then at Shen Subai, eyes wide as saucers: “Brother Shen, you’re teaching Yunshu to ride a motorcycle? And what’s this about dinner at night? Why do you need dinner for motorcycle riding?”
Even Chen Qiangsheng and Zhou Yue stopped talking, looking awkwardly at Shen Subai with a shared thought: What’s the deal between Team Leader Shen and Miss Xie?
Shen Subai’s face didn’t change. He nodded, “Yes, we’ll eat at Yunshu’s home. Aunt Li makes good porridge.”
Tian Hao’s voice changed: “Aunt Li? Who’s Aunt Li?”
Xie Yunshu weakly said, “Aunt Li is my mom…”
Tian Hao almost widened his eyes further to express his shock: “Brother Shen, you’re not going home for New Year, but going to Xie Yunshu’s house to celebrate?!”
Xie Yunshu’s face turned green. She hurriedly explained, “No, no, it’s just that Team Leader Shen came to find me and happened to come during dinner time! I invited him to eat at home to thank him! Also, we’re riding a motor tricycle, not that kind of motorcycle…”
Team Leader Shen is a gentleman, a serious guy! They are totally innocent!
Xie Yunshu got a little anxious and tugged Shen Subai’s sleeve: “Team Leader Shen, please explain quickly.”
Shen Subai smiled slightly and really explained: “It’s like this.”
Like what?
Xie Yunshu knew Shen was a man of few words, but this explanation was so weak it sounded like “there’s no silver hidden here” — totally unconvincing.
Tian Hao pinched himself and then blurted out: “I’m not dreaming, right?!”
Shen Subai looked at him: “Drop the catchphrase, and then go settle the bill.”
Xie Yunshu caught on and quickly waved her hand: “No need, no need. This meal was supposed to be on me.”
Shen Subai said nothing, just casually glanced at Tian Hao.
Tian Hao shuddered, immediately grabbed Xie Yunshu’s shoulder, stood up: “I’ll pay! This one’s on me!”
Xie Yunshu knew she couldn’t outdo him, and arguing over the bill in a restaurant was awkward, so she apologized and said: “Then next time, I’ll treat you.”
Tian Hao avoided Shen Subai’s stare and mumbled an excuse, dragging the others to leave: “You guys go ahead, we still have things to do!”
After he left, Shen Subai leisurely stood up: “Let’s go.”
Xie Yunshu followed him, unable to resist asking worriedly: “Do you think Manager Tian will misunderstand?”
Shen Subai looked back: “Misunderstand what?”
“That, that we’re… you know, involved!” Xie Yunshu’s face flushed. Shen could be more tactful with words, right?
Shen Subai laughed softly: “You mean dating?”
“I’m just afraid of misunderstandings ruining your reputation.” Xie Yunshu blushed; couldn’t Shen be gentler?
Shen Subai swung his long leg over the motorcycle and turned the key: “Dating ruins your reputation?”
How was that unclear?
They reached an empty space. Xie Yunshu jumped off the tricycle, feeling more and more uneasy. “Team Leader Shen, I think we should clarify this. We can’t let people spread rumors and who knows how it’ll turn out. We’re both innocent. Surely eating one meal won’t cause misunderstanding? Besides, you’re a project leader and I’m just the food delivery girl…”
Shen Subai sat on the motorcycle, one long leg lazily resting on the ground, cutting off her rambling: “In March, the southern project team is sending people to build an employee cafeteria on site.”
“Oh… what?”
Xie Yunshu was shocked and completely forgot about the dating misunderstanding. She grabbed Shen Subai’s hand tightly, voice trembling: “You mean the project team is opening their own cafeteria?”
Shen Subai lowered his gaze to himself, then nodded.
Xie Yunshu was both angry and anxious: “Why didn’t you tell me earlier? If the project team opens a cafeteria, I might be out of a job! No need for me to deliver meals, and fewer workers eating out! I just spent 1,500 yuan on the motor tricycle yesterday!”
It was already February. She was supposed to be happily earning money after the Lantern Festival!
She gripped Shen Subai’s hand tightly, almost on the verge of tears: “If you’d told me even one day earlier, I wouldn’t have bought the tricycle! That’s 1,500 yuan! Do you know that could’ve paid three years of Mingcheng’s college tuition?! Why did you wait so long to tell me, you…”
She couldn’t help but blame Shen Subai. 1,500 yuan! She’d spent a day and a half excitedly learning to ride, imagining the future—but the future was so short.
Shen Subai was calm. He took her hand back and said softly, “Let go of me first. What would it look like if someone saw us like this?”
Xie Yunshu’s eyes reddened with anger. At this time, he still cared about that!
She fiercely pulled her hand away, both angry and annoyed: “You knew about this all along, so why did you purposely come find me to buy the tricycle and then say you’d teach me to ride and have me treat you to dinner! Shen Subai, you’re too much! We won’t have any contact anymore, so just leave, I don’t need your motorcycle lessons!”
If she could beat him, she’d kick him!
Shen Subai sighed, “Xie Yunshu, don’t you think your temper is a little too bad?”
Xie Yunshu grabbed his arm: “Get off, I’m going to sell the tricycle!”
She’s not really temperamental in front of him, but since they won’t deal with each other anymore, why hold back?
Unfortunately, Shen Subai wasn’t Lu Zhi’an; her pull didn’t budge him and nearly made her lose balance.
Xie Yunshu, furious and embarrassed: “Get off now!”
“Quick to turn cold.” Shen Subai commented without expression, still sitting steadily on the motorcycle, speaking slowly, “I was originally going to discuss with you whether you’re interested in running the cafeteria.”
Xie Yunshu’s fierce expression froze. Her whole body stiffened: “…”
