By the time Mo Xin returned home, it was already dark.
The lights were on in the ground floor hall, emitting a warm yellow light. He couldn’t help but quicken his pace. When he reached the door, he stopped again, reinforcing his mental preparation before pushing the door open.
Liang Qiuchi, who was resting on the sofa with his eyes closed, heard the sound and looked up. “How did it go? It seems like you’ve been gone for a long time.”
Mo Xin responded with a grunt and asked, “Why didn’t you go upstairs to sleep?”
“I was waiting for you, couldn’t fall asleep,” Liang Qiuchi waved to him, and Mo Xin walked over, placing his hand in Liang Qiuchi’s palm.
Liang Qiuchi furrowed his brow and rubbed Mo Xin’s cold hand, “It’s cold outside, and you’re not wearing gloves.”
“Forgot,” Mo Xin looked down at their intertwined hands for a moment before saying, “There are some matters accumulated at the company that need my attention, so I’ve been busy lately.”
Liang Qiuchi understood his meaning, “You’re busy with your work, don’t worry about me.”
Mo Xin hesitated a bit, “But leaving you alone at home during the day, I’m worried.”
“Are you planning to take me to the company?” Liang Qiuchi asked with a smile.
Mo Xin didn’t answer.
Liang Qiuchi chuckled and scratched Mo Xin’s palm, “I’m blind and won’t run around outside. What’s there to worry about when I’m at home? Besides, you’re not always staying at the company without coming back.”
Mo Xin pursed his lips, “I’ll try to spend time with you as much as possible. If I can’t be around, I’ll let Vincent stay here to take care of you.”
Liang Qiuchi wasn’t surprised by his arrangement. If he was indeed the target of the federal pursuit, and Mo Xin, in a high position, harbored a suspect, he would surely be tense at all times and unable to relax.
He squeezed Mo Xin’s hand and sighed, “If only my vision could recover sooner, you wouldn’t have to work so hard like this.”
He meant to ease Mo Xin’s worries, but his words pricked Mo Xin’s heart like thorns.
“Have you taken your medicine today?” Mo Xin withdrew his warmed hand and poured a glass of water for Liang Qiuchi before fetching the medicine.
They were capsules to promote blood circulation and help absorb the cerebral hematoma. Liang Qiuchi quickly took the medicine with water and frowned, “I forgot to ask the doctor today how long I need to take this medicine.”
Mo Xin’s voice tensed, “It’ll take some time for the medicine to take effect. You can’t stop taking it.”
Liang Qiuchi nodded and went upstairs with Mo Xin to sleep.
During the night, the wind blew outside, causing the dry branches to tremble. The bedroom curtains were not tightly closed, and Mo Xin stared at the shadows of the trees projected on the wall, feeling restless.
He decided to get up, lifting his legs without a word and straddling Liang Qiuchi’s waist.
Liang Qiuchi immediately lost his drowsiness. He propped himself up, wanting to kiss Mo Xin, but Mo Xin firmly pushed him back down.
Liang Qiuchi chuckled softly, “You’re quite energetic.”
Mo Xin took off his pajamas, only pulled down Liang Qiuchi’s pants, and forcefully sat down.
Liang Qiuchi was worried about him getting hurt and tried to change positions to take control, but Mo Xin pressed down on his chest dominantly, not letting him move.
Mo Xin’s usually stern face was now full of desire. He, somewhat awkward but unusually passionate, rode on Liang Qiuchi’s body, casting shadows on the wall as they moved, overlapping with the swaying shadows of the trees.
Liang Qiuchi felt that Mo Xin was a bit strange tonight, but he didn’t have time to think about it. He was captivated by Mo Xin’s passion.
The two of them tossed and turned until midnight before finally falling asleep. When Liang Qiuchi woke up the next day, Mo Xin was not in bed. He groped his way downstairs to look for him, only to be informed by Vincent that he had left early in the morning.
“Did he leave so early because things are difficult?” Liang Qiuchi asked.
Vincent replied vaguely, “It’s okay, there were just a lot of things piled up recently, and the master wanted to go early and come back early.” He prepared breakfast for Liang Qiuchi and also got the medicine and water ready. “The master instructed me to make sure you take it.”
Liang Qiuchi smiled, “I’m not a child. You can go about your business.”
“But…”
“Go ahead, if there’s anything, I’ll call you.”
“Okay.”
Vincent quietly left, and Liang Qiuchi felt bored alone. He drank a few sips of porridge to fill his stomach, then took the medicine. Afterwards, he wandered around the spacious living room and then went to the gym on the ground floor.
With his eyes still not recovered, he could only see rough outlines from five meters away, so he couldn’t use the exercise equipment yet.
He could only ask Vincent to bring him two dumbbells to at least exercise his body.
Vincent hesitated a bit. “You should rest more at this stage.”
Liang Qiuchi said, “If I keep resting, my bones will waste away. I’ll just work on my arms a bit; it’s no big deal.”
Vincent could only obey, so he found the dumbbells and accompanied Liang Qiuchi to train his biceps together.
In the evening, when Mo Xin returned, Vincent briefly reported to him at the door about Liang Qiuchi’s activities throughout the day.
Upon hearing that Liang Qiuchi had been lifting dumbbells for an hour, Mo Xin furrowed his brows but didn’t comment.
After suffering a severe injury and resting for two months, Liang Qiuchi felt like all his bones had turned soft, and he lacked strength in his entire body. It wasn’t until he had been exercising continuously for half a month that he finally managed to alleviate some of that weakness.
However, he found it strange that he had been experiencing severe headaches in recent days. Even his eyes, which had been improving, occasionally experienced sudden blackouts in his vision.
At first, he thought it was due to overexertion from exercising, so he took a few days off. However, his condition didn’t improve, and the dizziness and blurred vision became even more frequent.
Liang Qiuchi had no choice but to bring up the idea of seeing a doctor again with Mo Xin. However, Mo Xin’s attitude this time was not as positive as before. Only when Liang Qiuchi couldn’t be persuaded otherwise did Mo Xin reluctantly invite Dr. Chen, who had been treating Liang Qiuchi all along.
Throughout the entire process, Dr. Chen kept an eye on Mo Xin’s expression. Apart from a brief “normal,” he didn’t dare say anything unnecessary.
Liang Qiuchi keenly sensed the strange tension between the two of them. Could it be that his condition wasn’t looking good? Or were Mo Xin and the doctor hiding something from him?
Liang Qiuchi didn’t want to dwell on the negative possibilities, but he remained cautious. He didn’t take the medicine that Mo Xin handed him. If Mo Xin was present, he would pretend to take it and then find a way to discreetly spit it out in the bathroom.
Several days later, his symptoms improved, but Liang Qiuchi’s mood was unusually heavy.
Taking advantage of Mo Xin’s absence from home, he found an excuse to dismiss Vincent and opened the cabinet where his medicine box was kept.
Some of the medicine boxes were still unopened, and he examined each one.
The text was too small, and with his current condition, his eyes would blur after just two or three seconds of looking. Liang Qiuchi had to close his eyes and rest for a moment before continuing to study.
After intermittently examining them for half a day, he finally saw the one thing he least wanted to see on the instructions of one of the medicine boxes – adverse reactions accompanied by optic neuritis, which could cause blurred vision and reduced visual acuity.
Liang Qiuchi’s heart sank instantly.
