What did his brother mean by that?
Distracted? Was he referring to Liang Qiuchi or was it just a casual remark that hit the mark?
Numerous thoughts raced through Mo Xin’s mind, and he even considered whether to use the handgun hidden at his waist.
At that moment, Mo Qi snapped his fingers, bringing Mo Xin’s wandering thoughts back, “What are you thinking about?” he chuckled, “Listen to your big brother’s advice, now isn’t the right time for you to resign. Let’s wait a bit longer.”
Mo Xin stared at him intently, his eyes sending shivers down one’s spine.
Mo Qi, however, remained unperturbed. He even crossed his legs, adopting a more relaxed and comfortable posture on the sofa.
“Even if the Council does approve your resignation, in the current turbulent situation, where do you think you can go? That old man Reinis is convinced that Liang Qiuchi is in San Lorenzo, and he’s been closely monitoring all the checkpoints in and out of the capital. Do you think you can slip away unnoticed?” Mo Xin’s heart tightened, muttering, “I won’t take away any secrets. I can leave openly and aboveboard.”
Mo Qi didn’t argue with him about that, just advising him, “Anyway, let’s first settle this negotiation. If you don’t want to accompany Dad to various places for speeches and debates, then let this negotiation be your contribution to Dad’s election campaign.”
Mo Xin didn’t respond. He was still wondering how much Mo Qi knew about him and Liang Qiuchi.
Mo Qi glanced at his watch, “It’s almost curfew. Why don’t I stay here for the night? Do you have a room?”
Mo Xin stood up straight, about to answer, but Mo Qi stood up, chuckling as he patted his shoulder, “Just kidding,” he buttoned up his coat, picked up the gloves on the desk, “It’s too empty here for me. I definitely won’t be comfortable. I’m leaving.”
Mo Xin followed him to the gate outside the courtyard.
The guard opened the car door for Mo Qi, who rested his hand on the car door and casually gestured around, saying to Mo Xin, “This place is a bit remote. It’s not like living in the guard-protected mansion allocated by the Federation. Be careful on your own during this time. Call me if anything happens.”
Mo Xin nodded, “Thank you, ge.”
“We are family after all. Don’t mention it.” Mo Qi smiled at him, “When you go for the negotiation, I’ll watch over the house for you. You don’t have to worry about that.” He waved his hand and got into the car.
The guard closed the car door and with a salute to Mo Xin, he drove away with Mo Qi.
Mo Xin watched as the taillights gradually disappeared into the night, then turned to look at the dark second floor of the villa. There was no light, and his mood became heavier.
Vincent came out and draped a coat over his shoulders. “It’s cold outside. You should go inside first.”
Mo Xin asked, “Has Qiuchi gone to bed?”
“He probably hasn’t,” Vincent said. Seeing Mo Xin furrowing his brows, he hesitated for a moment before saying, “Actually, what Captain Mo Qi said makes sense. Reinis is a suspicious person. If you can’t find a strong reason to resign at this critical juncture, it will attract his attention, and that will be troublesome.”
Mo Xin naturally understood this reasoning.
What he was most worried about now was his elder brother. Judging from Mo Qi’s words, he probably knew about the matter concerning Liang Qiuchi and him. As for how much he knew, how he knew, and what he planned to do in the future, Mo Xin had no idea.
He didn’t like the feeling of things slipping out of his control, and he especially disliked feeling restrained by others.
“What do you plan to do?” Vincent asked.
Mo Xin was silent for a moment before saying in a low voice, “I’ll think about it some more. You get things ready over there.”
Vincent nodded. “Yes.”
There was a vast forest in the southern suburbs of San Lorenzo. Due to various complex factors such as terrain and climate, it was almost in its original state. Usually, apart from the forest police patrolling the outskirts of the forest regularly, few people went near there. Mo Xin secretly found a professional guide who could take Liang Qiuchi through the forest when necessary to leave San Lorenzo.
This was also why he bought the villa in the southern suburbs of the capital.
He stood still downstairs for a while before going upstairs. He gently opened the door to the bedroom, and a gust of cold wind hit him in the face. He was stunned for a moment, then saw that the curtain had been blown open by the cross breeze.
“Why didn’t you close the window?” Mo Xin walked over quickly and closed the half-open window. The room’s temperature didn’t rise immediately, so he turned up the air conditioning by two degrees.
Liang Qiuchi was lying on the bed without moving. He asked, “How did things go?”
“Almost done,” Mo Xin replied. He took a shower in the bathroom, came out with wet hair, and sat cross-legged beside Liang Qiuchi. “Qiuchi, let’s go on a trip.”
“Hmm?” Liang Qiuchi finally turned his head. “Have you finished with company matters?”
“Those things will never be finished. I just want to spend more time with you,” Mo Xin smiled. “Where do you want to go most? How about we leave tomorrow?”
“Leave tomorrow?” Liang Qiuchi was taken aback. “Aren’t you saying it’s not safe outside recently?”
“We can go to safe places,” Mo Xin urged him. “You tell me where you want to go first.”
Liang Qiuchi pulled Mo Xin’s chilly feet into the warm blanket and thought for a moment. “I want to go see the sea,” he said after a pause. “Although I can’t see it, it would be nice to feel the sea breeze and listen to the waves.”
Mo Xin rested his feet on Liang Qiuchi’s stomach, imagining the scene of him and Liang Qiuchi walking hand in hand on the beach, and suggested, “Let’s buy a cruise ship and drift with the sea.”
Liang Qiuchi’s mood also brightened. He lightly tickled Mo Xin’s foot, joking, “What if we drift into international waters? Pirates are rampant there.”
“Don’t worry, we can fight them. If we can’t, we’ll join them,” Mo Xin joked rarely, making Liang Qiuchi laugh out loud.
The low pressure that had hung between the two of them all night was swept away.
Liang Qiuchi had thought that Mo Xin’s suggestion of leaving tomorrow was just a comforting joke, but now he could occasionally hear the sound of gunshots outside. Considering the severe security situation, Mo Xin, with his identity, couldn’t possibly find time to take him out.
But the next day, after Vincent received a phone call, he began to pack his bag with a serious expression, which made Liang Qiuchi feel a bit uneasy.
Did Mo Xin really intend to take him away?
But now he couldn’t leave.
After pondering for a moment, Liang Qiuchi turned and went into the bathroom, turned on the cold water, took a shower, and then spent nearly two hours in front of the window in thin pajamas, letting the cold wind blow.
Finally, he succeeded in giving himself a fever before Mo Xin came back.
Mo Xin touched Liang Qiuchi’s feverish forehead and furrowed his brows. “How did you suddenly get a fever? Have you taken any fever-reducing medicine?”
“I did,” Liang Qiuchi coughed twice, half-truthfully, half-jokingly weakly smiling at Mo Xin, “It’s all my fault. I caught a cold from being greedy for the cool breeze.” He showed a somewhat regretful expression. “It looks like I won’t be able to go pirate with you for the time being.”
Mo Xin lowered his eyelids, briefly caressed Liang Qiuchi’s hand, then let go, intending to get up and make a phone call.
Liang Qiuchi grabbed his wrist back. “Stay with me,” he asked Mo Xin to sit back beside him, teasing him jokingly, “What’s so secretive that you have to avoid telling me?”
Mo Xin vaguely replied, “Just a small matter.” But seeing Liang Qiuchi staring at him with those hollow yet gentle eyes, he felt uneasy and lowered his head, saying, “I was planning to go on a business trip these two days, but seeing you like this, I’m worried. I’ll let them send someone else instead.”
“A business trip…” Liang Qiuchi blinked, holding Mo Xin’s hand. “Where are you going on the trip, and for how many days?”
Mo Xin didn’t answer, only saying, “I’m not going anymore. Nothing is more important than you.”
“Don’t be like this,” Liang Qiuchi said seriously. “I don’t want your work to suffer because of me. You should go, I can take care of myself.”
“No,” Mo Xin didn’t want to go in the first place, and now seeing Liang Qiuchi like this, he was even less willing to leave.
Liang Qiuchi could only compromise, “How about this, if my fever goes down tonight, you can go. This way, you can be at ease, and I won’t feel like a useless burden to you.”
Seeing him insist like this, Mo Xin could only nod in agreement.
