“I’m giving you one last chance. Are you willing or not?” The wealthy woman had clearly run out of patience.
Lu Yan shook his head again, though his face had started to turn pale.
For some reason, a wave of sympathy rose in Shi Han’s chest. After all, he was exactly her type. She spoke up: “I want to buy a place from you.”
A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at Lu Yan’s lips — but it vanished in an instant.
The wealthy woman let out a breath, pressing down her trembling left leg. If she didn’t have to keep up appearances, she would’ve wiped the sweat from her face.
Once again, all eyes turned to Shi Han.
Shi Han slowly raised her hand, pointing at Lu Yan. “You. I want to buy a place from you.”
“You? Buy a place?” The woman in the red dress sneered. “Little girl, trying to play the hero? Do you even know how much money you’re talking about? The cheapest place here starts at five million.”
“Five million?” Shi Han tilted her head slightly. “Is that supposed to be a lot?”
The girl’s hair fell softly over her shoulders. Though her words were edged with challenge, they somehow carried an effortless pride — the kind that made it impossible to get angry, as if that air of confidence naturally belonged to her.
The woman in the red dress was fuming. “Keep putting on an act. You can’t afford it anyway!”
“It’s always been you saying I can’t afford it,” Shi Han said calmly. “I never once said that myself.”
She pulled a bank card from her shoulder bag and beckoned to Lu Yan.
Lu Yan stepped toward her, stopping only when they were face to face.
Shi Han stood at 1.67 meters, but Lu Yan still towered over her by a head.
How is he this tall?
With her delicate fingertip, she pointed at a model of a small villa at the foot of the mountain. “Lu Yan, right? I want that one. How much?”
Lu Yan tore his gaze away from her face with some effort, lowering his eyes to where she was pointing. His voice came out hoarse. “Ten million.”
“I’ll take it. Full payment.” They were standing quite close, and Shi Han had to tilt her head up to look at him. “Lu Yan, can we sign the contract now?”
“…Yeah.”
“You can swipe the card first,” Shi Han said with a small smile, casually handing the card to one of the female agents nearby.
The middle-aged man caught a clear glimpse of the card — his pupils contracted sharply. It was a bank card with no daily transfer limit, reserved for the bank’s elite clients. His own card barely allowed transactions over a million a day, and even that was far beyond what most people could get their hands on.
Only now did he realize that the girl standing before him was anything but ordinary.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, the man mentally reviewed his earlier behavior. Once he confirmed that he hadn’t crossed any major lines, he let out a quiet breath of relief.
He was just about to figure out how to slip away without drawing attention when, suddenly, he felt a chill run down his spine.
He’d accidentally met his gaze — a cold, dismissive stare from someone used to power. It hit him with a jolt, bringing back memories of his early days in business, when he’d been as small as an ant, at the mercy of those who held his fate in their hands.
The middle-aged man’s legs nearly gave out. But when he looked over again, Lu Yan had already slipped back into the role of a humble, slightly pitiful employee.
He had thin lips, his head lowered, the corners of his mouth faintly turned down. It was a face that should’ve radiated restraint and aloofness — yet to Shi Han, the boy standing in front of her just looked quietly aggrieved.
He was the perfect picture of the so-called “puppy-like” boyfriend.
Why was he so hopelessly her type? Shi Han couldn’t help sneaking glances at him, again and again.
The atmosphere between the two of them was… strange.
The middle-aged man’s instincts as a businessman were sharp — he sensed something was off and quickly turned, ready to slip away.
But the woman in the red dress spoke up again. “I don’t believe for a second that someone with ten million on hand would dress like that — eating steamed buns for breakfast, wearing those cheap clothes. I want to see just how long you can keep up this act!”
“Miss Shi, the payment has been processed,” the saleswoman said as she handed the card back to Shi Han, her waist slightly bowed, her tone full of respect.
“Processed? That’s impossible!” The woman in red shook her head, her expression twisting with disbelief. “There’s no way you have that kind of money! You— you were just…”
Holding a paper bag of steamed buns, dressed in cheap clothes and shoes — how could someone like that casually pay ten million in full?
“Kneel, then?” Shi Han asked sweetly, lightly twirling the bank card between her fingers. “I did pay in full, after all.”
