Suddenly, Su Yu reached out and hugged Wang Jinhe, whispering, “You look so obedient; I can’t help but want to tease you.”
Wang Jinhe’s face darkened instantly, looking displeased at Su Yu’s words. “What do you mean by wanting to tease me?” she retorted, pushing him away. “Go to sleep.”
Su Yu didn’t push further and let Wang Jinhe rest.
As Wang Jinhe lay in bed, observing Su Yu beside her, she couldn’t help but wonder, “Why is he so different today?”
“What are you looking at? You’re not happy about going to sleep? Shall we do something else then?” Su Yu, noticing Wang Jinhe’s gaze, filled with curiosity, leaned in and suggested.
Wang Jinhe calmly closed her eyes, preparing to sleep.
Observing Wang Jinhe’s pretense, Su Yu couldn’t help but shake his head in amusement. Was everything resolved just by her closing her eyes and pretending to sleep?
Lying down, holding Wang Jinhe close, Su Yu pondered over the matter of Gu Xiruo.
Gu Xiruo was a perplexing individual. She wasn’t exceptionally outstanding, so why did so many men devote themselves to her, going to such lengths?
Moreover, many seemed to have feelings for her, despite her being married, and she appeared indifferent to it all.
Wang Jinhe opened her eyes, observing Su Yu with a slightly furrowed brow, wondering what he was thinking. She reached out, holding his neck, and softly asked, “What are you thinking about?”
“I’m thinking about Gu Xiruo. I want to understand what attracts so many men to her,” Su Yu explained to Wang Jinhe.
“Once we unravel this mystery, Gu Xiruo’s time may be running short,” Su Yu remarked after tucking Wang Jinhe into the blanket before speaking.
Upon hearing Su Yu’s words, Wang Jinhe nodded continuously. “I also find this situation rather strange. Gu Xiruo’s charm doesn’t seem that significant.”
Su Yu couldn’t help but burst into laughter at Wang Jinhe’s comments. What she said was quite amusing.
“Perhaps it’s just a case of those men collectively turning blind? That’s why they’re drawn to Gu Xiruo, willing to do anything for her,” Su Yu suggested.
“Do you think people like Lu Lingfeng and Qing Yukong are also blind to her charms?” Su Yu asked, unable to contain his amusement.
Wang Jinhe nodded, “I think those two are definitely blind. Lu Lingfeng might not be physically blind, but he’s definitely blind in his heart, to be deceived so easily by a woman.”
“Jinhe, it’s not very nice to criticize others like that.”
“There’s nothing wrong with it. I’d say the same even in front of Lu Lingfeng. It’s just the way he is.” He had received those insights from Yuan Bao and the others; otherwise, he might have been deceived by Gu Xiruo for much longer if not for their guidance.
“If it weren’t for your guidance, he’d probably still be under Gu Xiruo’s influence, possibly even a pawn in her scheme,” Wang Jinhe expressed her frustration.
Su Yu didn’t add much to the conversation, but he agreed wholeheartedly with Wang Jinhe.
“Lu Lingfeng is indeed fortunate. If it weren’t for your intervention, he wouldn’t have known that Gu Xiruo was a fraud, or that his true benefactor suffered because of her.”
Su Yu found himself losing respect for Lu Lingfeng as he thought about it.
Wang Jinhe’s remarks continued to amuse Su Yu, “Lu Lingfeng has nothing to do with us. We shoudn’t discuss him anymore.”
“Alright, you’re right. It’s getting a bit agitating to discuss,” Su Yu responded.
“Rest now. If we keep talking, you’ll have trouble sleeping later.”
Wang Jinhe had a habit of struggling to sleep if she stayed up past her usual bedtime.
Su Yu had tried various methods to help her sleep, but sometimes, even a Wangjiang consistent bedtime routine didn’t work.
“Okay.”
The next day, Su Yu woke up and headed to the county town to address matters concerning Tower.
When they arrived in the county town, Long’an and the others were already there, along with a crowd of people outside. It seemed like they were all there to claim their children.
In the courtyard, there were over thirty children, looking wary even in the presence of their biological parents, hesitant to come closer.
This situation pained those who had come to claim their children deeply.
In such a short period, how had their children changed so much?
One woman approached a child cautiously, embracing them gently. “Darling, I’m your mother. It’s all my fault. It was me who lost you. You can scold me, hit me, but please don’t be like this. It hurts your mother’s heart to see you like this.”
The child, looking at the person holding them, seemed to suddenly realize something and said, “Mother.”
The woman, hearing the child calling her that, choked up and said, “It’s all my fault for not protecting you.”
The young boy shook his head, saying, “No.”
“Mother, I want to learn martial arts.”
“Alright.”
As long as her son was willing, she would support him in anything he chose to do.
Su Yu stood nearby, observing as all the parents claimed their children, except for two kids who had no one coming to pick them up.
Su Yu approached the two children and asked, “Where are your parents?”
The children looked up at Su Yu and replied, “They won’t come.”
“Why not?” Su Yu was puzzled. Were there parents who didn’t want their own children?
“They sold us,” the children said, recounting how they overheard their parents agreeing to sell them for fifty silver coins.
“They took the fifty silver coins and wouldn’t bother to come for us,” they explained sadly.
Looking at these two unusually composed children, Su Yu raised an eyebrow, “Do you have nowhere to go now?”
The children nodded, “We don’t know where to go.”
“Do you want to come with me then?” Su Yu proposed.
The elder child looked at Su Yu and asked, “What do we need to do if we go with you?”
“You will learn to become stronger and then protect my children,” Su Yu explained.
“I will provide you with a place to live, an environment for learning. In return, you will protect my children. It’s a fair exchange,” Su Yu stated, looking at them.
The two children exchanged a nod and agreed, “Okay, we promise.”
With nowhere else to go, they figured protecting children wouldn’t be too difficult. As long as they had a place to stay, they were content.
“Let’s go then.”
The two children followed Su Yu as they left. After they departed, a couple of parents approached nervously. Only when they didn’t see the children did they breathe a sigh of relief. If anyone found out they had sold their children for money, they would have lost all dignity and respect.
Su Yu remained unaware of this situation. Upon returning with the two children, he arranged for their enrollment in school.
“What are your names?”
“You can give us new names.” They didn’t want to use their old names.
Su Yu thought for a moment and said, “Yuan Jiu, Yuan Si.”
The two nodded in agreement, “Okay.”
Returning with the children, Wang Jinhe, curious about the slightly older kids beside him, asked, “Where did you pick up these two children from?”
These two children were around the same age as Xiao Bao. What was Su Yu’s purpose in bringing them back?
