Chapter 1
“Shu Nian, do you have no sense of shame left?!”
Inside a red brick house in the military district, a tall man—broad shoulders, narrow waist, standing at least 6’1″—glared angrily at the person inside.
The fury in his eyes was almost tangible.
The woman being scolded pursed her lips and stared back at the man in front of her, a deep confusion in her eyes.
What’s going on?
Wasn’t she just on a mission? How did she suddenly end up here?!
Looking around at the furnishings, they were completely different from what she was used to—this place was more like…
More like one of those scenes from an old TV drama. The items around her screamed vintage.
Her name was Shu Nian, and she had lived in the 33rd century on Blue Star.
She had just graduated from university when a mysterious virus swept through the planet, turning 70% of the human population into mindless monsters that fed on human flesh.
She and a few friends formed an ability-user squad.
Three days ago, their team leader led them out to search for supplies and they accidentally encountered the Zombie King.
They fought tooth and nail against him for three days straight. Victory was in sight—until the Zombie King chose to self-destruct and take them down with him at the last moment.
A wave of terrifying energy struck.
Before she could dodge, her vision went black and her consciousness was cut off completely.
When she woke up again, she was in this unfamiliar room, facing an unfamiliar man.
While she was still in shock, a sharp pain suddenly surged in her mind.
She closed her eyes.
In her head, fragments of memories played like a movie reel.
When she opened her eyes again, they were filled with disbelief—she had actually transmigrated!
Back in the apocalypse, she had been a fan of web novels and was no stranger to the idea of transmigration.
Once the memories finished integrating, her expression darkened.
The body she now inhabited had the same name—Shu Nian—and the man who just scolded her was her husband, Nie Minglang!
And the reason she was being scolded…
Was too embarrassing to even mention.
She had to admit, the original owner of this body had… unusual taste. She actually cast aside such a tall, broad-shouldered, long-legged husband to flirt with other men.
And if they were handsome, maybe she could understand. But the men she flirted with… were a collection of the most unattractive ones around.
Unbearable! And this time, she’d even been caught red-handed!
Utterly humiliating!
To think she had been a bright young woman in the 33rd century, only to end up in a body like this!
She cursed the original owner a thousand times in her heart, but there was no denying reality. What else could she do?
Kill herself? Not only was there no guarantee she’d return to her own world, but even in this one, despite the outdated technology, it was leagues better than the post-apocalyptic hellscape she came from.
She just hoped her team leader and teammates were okay…
Snapping out of her thoughts, Shu Nian looked up at the man standing before her.
She opened her mouth to speak, but saw him wrinkle his nose in disgust and even step back.
Shu Nian: “…”
What? Did she have germs in her mouth?
Three black lines metaphorically slid down her forehead. She tried to speak again but was momentarily at a loss for words.
After all, the original owner had been caught in the act this time.
Maybe the original had a bit of a flirtatious streak, but her judgment in men was seriously messed up.
No—”messed up” was too mild. The woman clearly needed her eyes checked and treated!
Despite being married to Nie Minglang, the original owner kept chasing after other men.
Using her seductive looks (think Su Daji), after arriving at the military district with her husband, she started flirting with all the young soldiers.
Throwing bedroom eyes at anyone in uniform.
It was almost as if she was weaving silk with her gaze.
In the past, she had been more subtle and always kept it behind Nie Minglang’s back. But not this time—she was caught in the act.
Wanting to keep the family scandal private, Nie Minglang didn’t make a public scene but dragged her back into the house.
Which led to the current situation—him shouting furiously at her.
Thinking about the original owner’s behavior, Shu Nian nearly gagged. Thankfully, her mental fortitude, forged in the apocalypse, kept her composed.
Otherwise, she might’ve vomited all over this man’s shoes.
Looking at the man’s grim expression, Shu Nian felt like dying.
But as the saying goes, “Better a live coward than a dead hero.” Now that she had become this Shu Nian, she had to find a way to get out of this mess.
As for how—ugh, that was a real headache.
Her mind buzzed. In the apocalypse, she’d had wood-type abilities—a support class. All she had to do was stand behind her teammates and buff or heal them.
Her brain, unused to scheming, was almost rusted shut.
No good ideas came to mind.
The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife.
She frowned and thought for a moment, then coughed twice to cover her embarrassment. After organizing her words, she said quietly, “There might be a misunderstanding. Please, let me… um… justify myself.”
The air froze.
Shu Nian froze too. Then quickly corrected herself, “Ah! No, no! I mean, let me explain!”
She let out a long sigh of relief.
But facing Nie Minglang’s murderous glare, she still felt nervous.
He didn’t respond, just kept staring at her as if to say: Go ahead. Let’s hear what kind of nonsense you’ll come up with.
And if he didn’t like it…
His eyes were like a thousand daggers, ready to slice her down.
Shu Nian swallowed hard.
Good lord, this man’s gaze was even scarier than the Zombie King’s.
Despite the panic inside, she had no choice but to steel herself and explain, “What you saw that day was a misunderstanding! I swear, there’s nothing going on between me and them—we didn’t do anything!”
“That day, we ran out of salt at home, so I went to borrow some. Then I bumped into Comrade Xu.”
“The shoes I was wearing were uncomfortable, so I twisted my ankle. Comrade Xu helped me—that’s all!”
After she finished, Shu Nian looked pleadingly at Nie Minglang.
Trying to read his expression, but she was doomed to be disappointed.
His face was still full of anger, and he even snorted coldly through his nose. “You think I’d believe that?”
Shu Nian: “…”
Inside, the little person in her heart screamed in rage. She wanted to shout in his ear:
Damn it! I’m telling the truth!
She really wasn’t lying. That was exactly what happened.
The original Shu Nian had loved flirting, but this time, before she could even start, she twisted her ankle.
But now?
Even if she jumped into the Yellow River, she wouldn’t be able to wash this off.
This must be what it feels like to live out the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” firsthand.
Shu Nian: Waaah… Baby is hurting, but baby won’t say anything.
