Chapter 25
After finishing breakfast, the landline in the villa suddenly rang.
Aunt Li answered and said a few words before passing the phone to Luo Wan. She mouthed, “It’s the old lady’s call.”
Luo Wan quickly took the phone and politely greeted, “Grandma.”
The elderly Sheng couple were both crouched by the phone, eager to speak with their daughter-in-law.
After some argument, Grandma naturally won.
“Girl, do you have any plans today? Come over to the old house and accompany Grandma.”
Grandma, who was getting older, had been eagerly anticipating her daughter-in-law’s visit, especially since this daughter-in-law was particularly to her liking, and she simply couldn’t get enough of her.
Since the day she returned from Xiyuan, she had been bragging about Luo Wan to all her old friends.
Today, those old friends invited her to play cards together, but seeing that she was out of the country, they wanted to invite Luo Wan over to show her off.
“Sure.”
Luo Wan agreed readily.
After all, she didn’t have anything to do today. She didn’t need to buy the ring either; Sheng Qing had mentioned last night that there would be an auction in a few days, so she could just go there and bid for one.
“Then let Uncle Wang take you later. Don’t go out alone, it’s dangerous.”
Grandma was worried, like she was admonishing a child.
Luo Wan smiled and nodded in agreement.
She hung up the phone.
Grandpa Sheng hurriedly urged Grandma, “What’s the matter? My daughter-in-law won’t make it in time today.”
“I was looking forward to sparring with her.”
Ever since their accidental sparring match, he had been itching to go again for days.
Hearing this, Grandma looked at him disapprovingly.
“You old fool, all you ever think about is martial arts. Aren’t you afraid of scaring away your daughter-in-law?”
“How could that happen? Martial arts are for fitness. You old hag only knows how to play mahjong and doesn’t understand these things.”
“Hmph, we’ll see if she spends time with you or with me.”
The old couple argued as they prepared for the upcoming activities.
Luo Wan also went back to her room to change clothes.
After all, she was going to meet her elders, so she needed to dress appropriately.
She chose a pink waist-cinching knee-length skirt, with her slightly curled hair casually draped over her shoulders.
To show her respect, Luo Wan even rarely put on light makeup.
With her already outstanding facial features enhanced by the light makeup, and complemented by the pink dress, she looked like a blooming peach blossom, stunning and eye-catching.
After tidying up, she headed out.
The Sheng family’s old mansion was located in the suburbs and occupied a vast area of land.
Luo Wan sat in the back seat of the car, watching the continuous stream of vehicles outside, and after a long while, she couldn’t see any cars at all.
The surrounding scenery was also not chaotic; it seemed as if it had been meticulously designed, with various valuable trees and flowers becoming more abundant.
Eventually, a slightly aged yet understated luxurious villa appeared in sight.
Grandpa Sheng and Grandma Sheng couldn’t wait and were already waiting at the door.
Uncle Wang parked the car at the entrance, and after Luo Wan got out, he parked it in the garage.
“Grandpa, Grandma.”
Luo Wan greeted obediently.
The elderly couple’s eyes brightened when they saw Luo Wan, who had a different style from a few days ago.
This girl was truly hiding her talents. She was stunning enough a few days ago, but today, with a bit of dressing up, she was simply killing it compared to all the socialites in A City.
Knowing that this girl didn’t like to dress up, today’s attire was out of respect for them, so the old couple liked their daughter-in-law even more.
Luo Wan followed the two into the house.
At this moment, there were three elderly ladies sitting in the yard, along with a young woman. When everyone saw Luo Wan, they couldn’t help but be amazed.
Grandma Sheng proudly held Luo Wan’s hand and introduced, “This is my daughter-in-law.”
Luo Wan continued to greet everyone obediently.
She noticed that when Grandma introduced her relationship with Sheng Qing, the young woman next to the elderly lady didn’t look very happy.
The young woman was Su Yunwei, the daughter of the Su family, and the elderly lady beside her was Grandma Su.
The Su family and the Sheng family were close friends, and the two elderly ladies had been best friends since childhood.
With the good relationship between the two families, Su Yunwei often came to the Sheng family to play when she was young, and she and Sheng Qing grew up together as childhood sweethearts.
Su Yunwei had liked Sheng Qing since childhood, but unfortunately, her affections were unrequited.
Sheng Qing was simply not interested in her.
However, Miss Su from the Su family was not someone who could easily give up. Knowing that Sheng Qing was very filial, and their grandma had a good relationship with Grandma Sheng, she wanted to start from Grandma Sheng.
When the time was right, as long as she won Grandma Sheng’s favor and got her to say a few words in front of Sheng Qing, it would be much more likely to succeed than if she tried on her own and hit a wall.
So, in recent years, she had been coming to the Sheng family whenever she had the chance, and Grandma Sheng had praised her endlessly.
Seeing that the time was ripe, she deliberately asked her own grandma to bring up this matter today.
Unexpectedly, before she could even speak, she was shocked by the sudden appearance of the daughter-in-law.
Seeing this woman who suddenly appeared and stole her sweetheart, Su Yunwei’s hands involuntarily clenched, and hatred erupted in her eyes.
This nameless woman actually wanted to snatch the man she, the daughter of the Su family, had set her eyes on.
What a delusion.
Grandma Su knew her granddaughter’s thoughts and soothingly patted Su Yunwei’s hand.
Her eyes signaled her to calm down and not be impulsive.
Then, she smiled and asked, “Which family’s daughter are you, miss?”
“Hello, Grandma Su. My name is Luo Wan.”
“Luo family? I haven’t heard of any Luo family among the major families in A City.” Grandma Su felt sorry for her granddaughter and naturally disliked this woman who made her granddaughter uncomfortable. She spoke with a harsh tone.
However, Grandma Su was accustomed to socializing in high society, and even if she didn’t like it, she still smiled and spoke gently on the surface.
“But one’s background is not something one can decide for oneself. Since you’ve won the favor of the young master of the Sheng family, you must have some remarkable qualities.”
“You don’t seem very old, so you probably haven’t graduated from university yet.”
“Tell Grandma which university you’re studying at, so I can have my underachieving granddaughter learn something.”
Hearing this, everyone present could see that Grandma Su was standing up for her granddaughter.
“Then let Grandma Su down. I don’t have any remarkable qualities, and I haven’t attended university.”
Luo Wan thought to herself that she had self-studied university knowledge when she was ten years old, and the abilities she had learned later were not certified because she was afraid of trouble while living on the border.
In the eyes of these people, she probably appeared to know nothing at all.
Luo Wan’s response was neither humble nor overbearing, and she was not at all embarrassed by being made fun of.
“So you don’t know anything.”
“Then you should learn more from Yunwei in the future and don’t embarrass the Sheng family.”
“Our Yunwei is a student at Jinghua University. She’s also designing her own jewelry now, and she even won an award at some competition last time.”
With Grandma Su’s belittling and praising, everyone present knew that this new daughter-in-law of the Sheng family was just a vase.
Although Grandma Sheng admired Luo Wan’s calmness and composure, she couldn’t stand others speaking ill of the person she liked.
Immediately, her expression turned ugly, and she retorted, “Old Su, Luo Wan is the daughter-in-law I’ve chosen, even if she were born a beggar, I wouldn’t despise her. We’ve been sisters for so many years; mind your words.”
