Chapter 19
Although Ye Baizhi had her suspicions, she found it hard to believe. She felt that she understood herself well enough. How could the Snow Wolf King possibly do all of this for someone like her—a rumored “useless” and infamous “wicked female”?
Yet, he really did it.
Her heart was undeniably moved. There was no revenge as she had imagined. Instead, she gained a Beast King as her mate. That would surely infuriate Kasai, who had been longing for Xue Youchen.
Yes, this was quite good. If Kasai could be angered to death, that would be even better.
Ye Baizhi’s eyes curved into a bright smile, and she softly said, “Thank you. Because of the food these past few days, I haven’t gone hungry.”
Xue Youchen gently replied, “From now on, you won’t go hungry. I will take care of you and the child.”
He would provide all the nutrition and food they needed.
Just the thought of her going hungry made Xue Youchen’s heart tighten.
Ye Baizhi searched her memories.
In the Beast World Continent, it seems that once a female beast has a mate or bears a male beast’s child, the male beast is instinctively responsible for providing food and caring for both the female and the child. This duty is ingrained in their very nature.
So, she did not refuse.
“Thank you.” Ye Baizhi sincerely thanked Xue Youchen. The worries that had plagued her over the past few days finally settled.
Ye Baizhi explained, “My eldest brother originally had a fifth-tier strength, but after returning from the cat tribe, he lost his power.”
“I suspect it has something to do with Kasai, and they even wanted to kill my brother.”
“So I want to get to the bottom of this and take revenge.”
A shadow of cold determination flickered in Xue Youchen’s eyes as he said, “Your brother’s talent bone was taken—his strength was stolen!”
When Xue Youchen carried Ye Baizhi back, he had only glanced at her brother but immediately recognized the problem. He had assumed Ye Baizhi and the others already knew. But they didn’t.
Hearing this, Ye Baizhi was stunned. “So my brother was tricked by Kasai? Kasai suddenly jumped from the third tier to the sixth—was it because he stole my brother’s talent bone power?”
At that thought, a cold glint flashed in Ye Baizhi’s eyes. She was determined to kill Kasai and avenge her elder brother. She would not stop until one of them was dead.
Xue Youchen gently stroked her hair, speaking in a soft voice: “Only a very small number of beasts are born with a talent bone, which allows them to cultivate faster and rapidly enhance their strength.”
“Your mother possessed a talent bone, but it shattered more than ten years ago, which weakened her abilities.”
“Your elder brother lost his talent bone, so now he has no power at all.”
“In general, no one can forcibly take another’s talent bone unless they possess demon blood. Some demons can absorb another’s abilities for their own use—but this can only happen if the victim is completely unguarded and deeply trusting. Even then, success is rare, and failure often means death.”
“If the cat tribe is responsible, then this matter involves the demons. I will handle it—you don’t need to worry.”
“For now, focus on recovering.”
Ye Baizhi realized the matter was far more complex than she had anticipated and would be difficult to resolve. Since demons were involved, this was beyond her current ability to intervene.
“Alright!”
If not for Xue Youchen, Ye Baizhi would never have learned all of this. Her knowledge of the Beast World Continent was still quite limited. The only understanding she had came from the memories of her past self. But that past self had been consumed with romance and had never bothered to read or learn about such matters. It was no wonder she had been called incompetent.
As Ye Baizhi pondered everything, she sensed something and looked up. Her gaze met Xue Youchen’s strikingly mysterious eyes, and she felt a wave of pressure. It was as if his eyes could see straight through her.
“Wh…what is it? Did I say something wrong?”
“Wait… Do I have a talent bone?”
Xue Youchen remained silent. His expression unsettled Ye Baizhi. “I—there isn’t something wrong with me, is there?”
“Is the child alright?”
Xue Youchen placed his hand on her stomach and said in a low voice, “The child is fine. But there’s a layer of mist around you, making it hard to see.”
This was the first time he had encountered such a phenomenon. It was as if a white fog enveloped her, preventing anyone from seeing through it. Her talent and strength were completely obscured.
Ye Baizhi paused for a moment, then relaxed. That meant her secrets would remain safe. It was better if no one knew.
…
After a while, Ye Chuan gently tapped on the grass curtain in the middle of the cave. “Sister, I just steamed some sweet potatoes. They’re still warm. Can I bring them in now?”
He was worried that his sister might be hungry. He had just learned from their mother that his sister was expecting Snow Wolf King’s child.
Ye Chuan was filled with excitement—he was going to be an uncle. Afraid that his sister and the child in her womb might be hungry, he hurried to steam the sweet potatoes. He wanted to bring them to his sister.
A few days ago, Ye Baizhi had set up curtains in the middle of the cave to provide some privacy. She also had her own habits—whenever their mother or elder brother wanted to visit her, they had to tap on the curtain and ask first.
Ye Baizhi caught the aroma of the sweet potatoes and glanced at Xue Youchen.
Xue Youchen nodded. “This is your home.”
In other words, everything here was hers to decide.
Ye Baizhi felt a sense of respect. She smiled and said, “Brother, come in!”
Ye Chuan had wrapped the sweet potatoes in leaves and placed them in a basket, bringing several inside. The moment he saw Xue Youchen, Ye Chuan immediately felt an overwhelming pressure. He could barely breathe.
Even though Xue Youchen had restrained his aura, Ye Chuan was powerless and didn’t know how to move his hands and feet. Nor did he know how to properly show respect.
Ye Chuan was about to kneel in salute, afraid of causing trouble for his sister. But with a slight movement of Xue Youchen’s fingers, a force held Ye Chuan up, preventing him from kneeling.
Just moments ago, Ye Baizhi’s expression had changed—she couldn’t bear to see her brother kneeling like that. It made her heart ache.
Fortunately, Xue Youchen didn’t let him kneel.
“Brother, I am Ah Zhi’s beast husband. You don’t need to bow.”
Ye Chuan felt as if he had been struck by lightning—his mind couldn’t process the words.
“Beast… husband?”
The meaning behind such a title was clear.
A beast husband signified that his sister was the official wife of the Beast King, Xue Youchen. Even though his sister was carrying Xue Youchen’s child, their family had never dared to think of such a possibility. They wouldn’t dream of attaching themselves to his status.
Typically, the likely outcome they had imagined was that after his sister gave birth, the Snow Wolf King would take the child, provide her with some compensation, and then cut ties. If she wanted to see the child, she would need Xue Youchen’s favor to be granted that privilege.
Moreover, in most cases, a high-ranking figure like Xue Youchen wouldn’t want his sister’s existence known—out of concern that the child might be judged or ridiculed.
The Rabbit Tribe was considered a low-ranking clan. This was the hierarchy of the Beast World—something they had no power to change.
Ye Chuan’s expression was complicated. He was happy for his sister, yet he also worried that Xue Youchen might harm her later. The gap between their statuses was simply too vast.
Ye Baizhi’s soul came from the future, and her way of thinking was different from the norms of the Beast World. She remained calm and composed. She had thought things through—having Xue Youchen as her beast husband not only ensured the protection of the Rabbit Tribe and care for her child but also gave her the freedom to pursue what she wanted.
Ye Baizhi nodded. “That’s right.”
“Big Brother, have you felt pain in your bones since you came back?”
She pointed to a spot on his back where his bones were.
