Ji Chenai closed his eyes as he thought that Zhou Yaoqin’s life might not have been as good as he had thought. If he were Zhou Yaoqin and had a younger brother like Zhou Yaoyun, he would never choose to commit suicide.
The next morning, Ji Chenai awoke earlier than Zhou Yaoyun. Upon opening his eyes, he was greeted by the warm, golden sunlight cascading onto the floor, casting a cozy glow.
Ji Chenai suddenly remembered his childhood when Shen Shuya told him that everyone in the world loves the sun because it brings people warmth. If one was willing to give to others like the sun, many people would also admire and appreciate them.
But Shen Shuya’s ideals seemed more suited to fairy tales, where all good people find their happy ending.
In reality, the sun merely exists, indifferent to human desires. Getting too close to it would only result in being burnt. The so-called giving, Ji Chenai concluded, was merely a human’s imagination.
Zhou Yaoyun also woke up at this time and proposed. “Brother, would you like to go for a walk? We can also buy a new mattress for the bed.”
It was a pleasant Sunday, perfect for a stroll, so Ji Chenai agreed.
After breakfast, Zhou Yaoyun pushed him out of the door ready to walk to the nearby commercial center which wasn’t far, just a ten-minute walk away.
As the two of them were on their way, they attracted attention from other passersby. Some glanced discreetly, while the other openly stared with curiosity. Ji Chenai was accustomed to such attention, and maintaining his composure, but it was Zhou Yaoyun who seemed perturbed. Irritation flickered in his eyes, suggesting his displeasure with the scrutiny directed at Ji Chenai.
When they arrived at the mall, Ji Chenai suggested, “I’ll wait for you at the coffee shop. You can choose a mattress and join me later.” There were quite a few people in the mall, and it was inconvenient to get up and down, he preferred not to jostle through the crowd.
After a brief hesitation, Zhou Yaoyun agreed. He then pushed Ji Chenai to a coffee shop, ordered some drinks and snacks, and then left Ji Chenai.
As Ji Chenai settled in, preparing to read the news on his iPad, he felt a fluffy sensation on his hand. Turning, he discovered a large white dog with a wide grin and playful demeanor.
The large dog was sticking out its tongue, looking like it was smiling. Ji Chenai reached out and touched its head, asking. “Where is your master?”
There were no newcomers in the coffee shop, but the dog hadn’t been there a moment ago. It just arrived.
The large dog naturally couldn’t answer Ji Chenai’s question, but it seemed to adore Ji Chenai, showering him with affectionate licks.
Ji Chenai felt a bit helpless, he had only just washed his hands and was preparing to eat. Now that his hand was soiled from the dog’s affectionate licking, it seemed too bothersome to make a trip to the bathroom.
The large dog seemed oblivious to Ji Chenai’s predicament. Instead, it fixated on the cake sitting on Ji Chenai’s table, its mouth beginning to drip saliva.
