Chapter 114: The Interrogation of the Fox Begins
Reiner first swept the weeds in the backyard with fire, then touched the ground with both hands and raised four stone pillars.
The beast-eared girls hugging their quilts watched from behind as Reiner used earth magic to build a house and gasped one after another.
Apparently these demi-human slaves had seldom seen magic before.
Martina said proudly, “Don’t be surprised, Reiner knows all kinds of magic, and he’s my man!”
Just then a discordant inner voice drifted over.
(Fire and rock dual attributes, huh? Interesting, but he’s not necessarily stronger than I am; my fire magic is top-tier among the tribe, and if I ambushed him I’d still have a chance.)
It was that traitor Peggy again.
Once the house was finished, Reiner intended to give her a proper lesson.
Having said that, he continued building.
Construction was a complete blind spot for Reiner.
He copied everything he had learned in a certain block-building game, first erecting a square frame and then fixing thin stone slabs onto it.
In no time a spacious matchbox-shaped structure stood completed.
He rapped the outer wall and felt that it was fairly solid.
However, the wall was too thin, so it probably offered little insulation.
Still, they would not live here long, so it would have to do for now.
He walked inside and looked around, feeling that something was missing; after a few seconds of thought he decisively withdrew several chunks of rock, and light streamed through the round gaps, thus forming windows.
Reiner then created 10 stone beds; they were hard, but with quilts spread over them they were barely usable, and today was only an emergency… he could improve their living conditions gradually.
If he wanted people to work for him willingly, the basics could not be neglected.
Reiner looked around again and raised two stone walls inside the house, separating the sleeping quarters from the living room.
He also left a small cubicle to serve as a bath and toilet.
The staff dormitory was basically complete; he just needed to buy a few doors.
He walked to the entrance, waved at the beast-eared girls, and said, “Come in and have a look; this is where you’ll live for a while.”
The beast-eared girls looked at one another, huddling like small animals for warmth, and none of them dared step forward.
Reiner put away his kindly smile and spoke more sternly, “All of you, come here!”
At his words the demi-humans rushed over, with only Peggy smiling sweetly at the rear.
She laid her hand on Reiner’s shoulder and whispered, “Master, you’re amazing, you’re totally my idol! I adore you, Master!”
Although she said that aloud, her heart thought otherwise: (Males, studs, males… they’re all the same; praise them a little and they’re happy, and before long he’ll be head over heels for me…)
Seeing Reiner touching her hand, she curved her lips in a sly grin.
Unexpectedly, the scene shifted and Peggy was slammed to the ground.
“Ow! Ow, ow! Master, it hurts! Boo-hoo, why are you treating me like this…”
She looked pitifully at Reiner, her soul-stealing eyes brimming with tears.
Meanwhile, her fluffy white tail wound deftly around Reiner’s arm.
Had Reiner not been able to hear her thoughts, he really might have been fooled by her whimpering.
Reiner said solemnly, “Do not touch me without permission.”
Before Peggy could reply, Martina jumped out and cheered, “Yes! Reiner, you’re awesome, worthy of being my man!”
Her horse ears trembled wildly.
It was clear she was very pleased with Reiner’s action.
At that moment Peggy’s inner voice came again: (What’s wrong with this guy? Is his clothing made of gold? He won’t even let me touch it. And that woman too! None of them are normal!)
Though she thought this, she begged for mercy without skipping a word: “Master, I was wrong, I’ll never do it again, please spare me… boo-hoo!”
When the demi-human slaves’ gazes were drawn over, Reiner slowly relaxed his hand and let her stand.
Peggy patted dust off her clothes and pouted slightly.
She really could act…
(You’re dead! How dare you lay hands on me; just wait till I get you!)
Unconcerned, Reiner went on, “You don’t need to look inside; you’ll sleep with us.”
Peggy paused, then deliberately raised her voice and said, “Master, didn’t you promise you wouldn’t do that sort of thing? I’ve always respected you, so why can’t you wait until tonight to…”
Reiner answered in the same tone, “No, no, you’re misunderstanding something; we’ll sleep in the bedroom, and you can only sleep in the living room. I’m putting you in the same house because you’re untrustworthy and need supervision. Also, you carry a faint smell of urine, and I dislike women with strong body odor.”
Peggy’s face flushed, yet she still smiled and said, “It’s a pity I don’t please Master, but I’m not being dishonest, I’m willing to be loyal to Master…”
(What smell? He’s so rude! Once I get a chance, he’s finished!)
Of course Reiner knew she had no odor; he just felt she needed putting in her place and scolded her casually.
“Enough, come with me.”
Reiner beckoned, and Peggy followed lightly behind.
Back in his own house, he pointed to a corner near the kitchen and said, “You’ll sleep here tonight; spread your quilt on the floor, and I’ll bring another quilt for you in a bit.”
“Okay, Master!” Peggy obediently squatted down and spread the quilt.
She then took off her straw sandals and sat on the bedding.
She rolled around coquettishly, hugged a corner of the quilt, and murmured, “It’s so warm, Master…”
(Ugh, disgusting, but men eat this stuff up.)
Reiner questioned, “You’re smart and cute, but you still need practice when dealing with me.”
Peggy froze slightly, her gaze dropping for a moment: (Does he have issues? Even I can’t charm him.)
“I’ll work hard to become the kind of woman Master likes!”
“I like women whose feelings show on their faces; your scheming is too deep and unappealing,” Reiner said, shaking his head, then pulled over a stool, sat in front of Peggy, and asked sternly, “I heard you have a younger sister… where is she?”
Peggy shook her head. “I don’t know…”
“It’s still winter and freezing outside; are you sure you want her surviving alone in the wild?”
Peggy shook her head again. “I really don’t know where she is, Master, please believe me.”
Even so, Reiner’s words rattled her a little: (Neve is already grown; even if she leaves me she can survive on her own, yet this guy is trying to scare me.)
Neve?
The corner of Reiner’s mouth lifted slightly; he had just fished out the information, hadn’t he?
