Chapter 125: Martina’s New Weapon
Anna took Junice out to reminisce, and although Reiner wanted to follow, he felt it would be inappropriate.
With Junice gone, the house fell silent.
Reiner, Nora, and Martina sat at the dining table, staring at one another.
“What are you all looking at me for?”
Martina narrowed her eyes, looked at Reiner, and muttered, “You sly guy, you got me drunk on purpose so you could make a move on Junice; I will never touch another drop of alcohol.”
Reiner scratched his cheek.
Nora calmly said from the side, “Hadn’t Junice already discussed it with us? You didn’t object back then either.”
“Well, even so…”
Martina stared at Reiner, a trace of unease flashing in her eyes, then lowered her head to pick at her thumbnail and added, “I still feel that once Junice is around you’ll tilt toward her and stop liking us, because she’s so pretty and we’re not as good-looking.”
Reiner scooted his chair next to Martina, clasped her hand, and said, “Yare yare, so you’re just jealous; does our adorable horse girl really worry about something that will never happen?”
Martina flattened her ears and replied, “Yes, I admit I’m worried, because you’re the only family I have in this world.”
“It’s absolutely impossible,” Reiner said with a shake of his head, resolving to devote more time to her in the future.
Just then Nora slowly spoke from the side, “Master, can I ask you something?”
“What’s up?”
“In your eyes, is Junice really that much prettier than I am?”
A cold sweat broke out on Reiner’s back.
How terrifying.
So Nora really had eavesdropped by the wall last night.
“Why were you eavesdropping on us, you naughty little cat?” Reiner reached out and rubbed Nora’s ears.
“Martina’s snoring was like thunder and kept me awake, so I perked up my ears for a bit, and when Junice started crying I stopped listening,” Nora said with a shrug.
Martina snapped angrily, “Nora, you’re useless! You stuck to the wall to eavesdrop instead of stopping them! Do you have some weird kink or what?”
“It doesn’t matter; actually I think Junice is pretty nice, and if it’s her I don’t mind.”
Martina started to pout, lightly pounding Reiner’s shoulder with her fist, “Waaah, philandering Reiner, you belong to me…”
Before she finished, Peggy, who sat in the corner, interjected, “Actually, I think you’re in the wrong.”
Martina shot her a glance and asked doubtfully, “What’s wrong with it?”
Peggy stated earnestly, “I believe that any woman who likes him has the right to pursue him; you can’t selfishly lock him up beside you, Reiner belongs to everyone.”
Her inner voice drifted into Reiner’s mind
(I should observe him a bit longer, and if the timing is right, I ought to try pursuing him as well; I can’t let such a powerful man slip away no matter what. Still, what kind of woman does he like? He doesn’t seem interested in me.)
Reiner cast Peggy a sidelong glance.
The demi-humans’ worship-of-strength mentality was intense; countier she had sworn she’d rather die than let Reiner take advantage of her.
Yet in just a few days she had completely changed her mind.
Martina pouted and said, “Why should I? I don’t agree; if you want to chase Reiner you have to defeat me in a one-on-one fight.”
Peggy shook her head, “I can’t beat you.”
With that she took out a comb and began brushing Neve’s hair in her arms.
While they were chatting, Elyanna walked out of her room.
She sat at the table, dipped a piece of white bread in honey, and put it in her mouth.
She still seemed half asleep.
Martina reached out and poked Elyanna’s shoulder, “Little elf, is the weapon still not finished? It’s been many days already.”
The two could not communicate, so Elyanna had no idea what she was saying and replied, “Sorry, Martina, I can’t give you this bread yet; I haven’t had breakfast.”
Seeing this, Reiner acted as interpreter beside them, “She’s asking when the weapon will be ready.”
“Oh that… I don’t know, but it should be soon.”
No sooner had she finished than Nora perked up her furry cat ears, listened for a moment, and then said slowly, “Someone is coming.”
Right after that, someone knocked on the door.
Reiner stepped forward and opened the door but saw no one.
Just as he was about to step outside, a blurry figure suddenly appeared.
A blue-haired elf manifested in front of him.
If he remembered correctly, this elf should be Elyanna’s mother, Selina.
“Selina, my lord.”
“Just call me Selina, or Miss Selina; thank you for looking after Elyanna during this time.”
“I haven’t really had to take care of her; she’s been no trouble at all.”
Hearing the voice, Elyanna came over with her bread, “Mom, I missed you!”
With that she threw herself into Selina’s arms and started to act spoiled.
No matter how you looked at her, little Elyanna was clcounty still a child.
Selina smiled and gently stroked Elyanna’s silky hair, “So, is the outside world interesting?”
“It’s way more fun than the forest! There are so many interesting people, and I love adventuring!” Elyanna said with a bright smile.
“It’s cold out here; let’s go inside and talk.”
Selina walked into the living room, glanced around at everyone, then waved her hand, causing more than 30 weapons to materialize behind her, most of them ebony staves commonly used by elves, “Reiner, these are the things you asked for… definitely worth every coin!”
In the middle of the staves sat an especially eye-catching pale-green greatsword.
Depending on the angle, the sword actually changed color, though it stayed green most of the time.
Martina sprang to her feet and involuntarily walked toward the greatsword, chattering like a child, “Reiner! This sword is super cool! Was it… was it made for me?”
“Of course; pick it up and see if you like it.”
Martina snatched up the greatsword without hesitation and gave it a light swing toward the wall.
“Whoosh!”
The sound of the blade cutting the air was especially pleasing.
Martina grinned from ear to ear, “The feel is great and the weight suits me; it’s fantastic! If I’d had this weapon back then I might have killed that red dragon with ease!”
“As long as you like it.”
Selina explained fluently in demi-human tongue, “Its name is Sylph’s Wrath; it is forged entirely from mithril and harmonizes excellently with the wind element, and only the very best Blade Striders among us elves are qualified to wield it.”
Martina’s eyes shone; she ignored Selina, grabbed Reiner’s hand, and said, “Darling, come outside the city with me to test this sword… please!”
