Fei Mao Mao Second Attribute
However, before Fei Yan could finish the last syllable of her “mm,” it was as if someone had struck her acupuncture point—she froze and shut her mouth abruptly.
Just now, in a daze, she thought she heard a voice that was incredibly familiar.
It wasn’t a cat’s meow.
It was her own… original voice.
Panicked, Fei Yan looked up at Chen Miansheng, who was still sound asleep. Seeing no sign that he was waking up, she recalled that he couldn’t hear anything to begin with and finally let out a breath of relief.
Even so, Fei Yan didn’t dare speak again. Instead, she communicated with Thirteen silently in her mind:
“Thirteen, what just happened?”
[This is your second attribute, Host. You may speak in your original voice three times per day. Anything beyond three sentences will automatically revert to cat language.]
[However, due to the current level of your system, you can only say three one-word sentences for now. As the system upgrades, the settings you obtain will also improve.]
Three one-word sentences? She might as well not talk at all.
“How do I level up the system?”
[Since we’re part of the great “Love Development Program,” the system will automatically level up as your feelings with the designated target deepen.]
Fei Yan: “…”
Great? Great, my ass.
Judging from how completely useless this attribute was to her current situation, she doubted she’d ever survive long enough for her relationship with Chen Miansheng to “deepen.”
Still: “Next time I get a new attribute, can you give me a heads-up at least?”
Luckily, she was with the deaf Chen Miansheng this time. If it had been Gu Wu or anyone else present, she would’ve already blown her cover.
[According to universal protocol, attributes cannot be revealed before their first use. The Host must discover them through firsthand experience.]
Fei Yan: “?”
Could this system be any more unreliable?
Grinding her teeth, Fei Yan barely managed to hold back her frustration.
She guiltily buried her head as low as she could. The sound that came from her cat mouth was barely louder than a mosquito.
“Hey.”
“Mm.”
“Meow~”
Finally back to normal.
Fei Yan let out a sigh of relief, though a wave of sorrow rose in her chest at the same time.
She’d finally gotten a chance to speak like a human again—only to waste it completely.
Do other people’s cheat systems suck this much? The answer was obvious.
She really was the most miserable transmigrator in the world.

But now that things had come to this, all she could do was hope that Thirteen would assign her more tasks in the future and unlock more useful attributes, so she could complete her grand mission of strategy as soon as possible.
Fei Yan lightly leaped onto Chen Miansheng’s bedside. Under the hazy moonlight, she could clearly see his hand resting on the quilt.
Chen Miansheng had very beautiful hands — slender fingers, clear veins on the back of his hand — a kind of morbid elegance.
Fei Yan couldn’t help but think of how he had bathed her earlier that day. The sensation of his fingers gliding across her fur still lingered vividly in her senses.
Just then, a soft grrrrgle broke the silence.
Great. She was hungry.
To be fair, it wasn’t really her fault. Ever since transmigrating here, she hadn’t eaten a single bite, and this cat’s body had probably already been starving for days. It would be strange if she wasn’t hungry.
Chen Miansheng was sleeping soundly. Fei Yan barely managed to resist the urge to smack him awake and demand food, and instead jumped down with ease, sauntering toward the door with all the confidence of a cat.
At least his deafness had some advantages. She didn’t have to worry about making too much noise and waking him up.
With that comforting thought, her movements became even more bold.
Yet after wandering around the house and turning the place upside down, Fei Yan still couldn’t find anything edible. Most of the things around were books, papers, brushes — not even a trace of normal food.
Unwilling to give up, she slipped into the firewood room. The pots and pans were all empty, neatly stored away by Chen Miansheng.
Another loud “growl” echoed, even louder than before.
So hungry. Was she really going to have to wake him?
Just as she was torn about what to do, Fei Yan suddenly smelled the scent of meat.
She wrinkled her nose, following the aroma. When she reached the spot where the smell was strongest, she looked up and saw several pieces of cured meat tied with red string hanging beside a pile of firewood.
The meat must have been hung there by Chen Miansheng to air-dry in the woodshed. Though it didn’t look particularly appealing, the aroma was undeniably tempting.
Fei Yan stared longingly at the red slabs of meat, unconsciously swallowing several times. “Gulp… meow… rawr.”
Well… just a small bite shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Hungry kitty. Meaty meat. Wuwuwu.
The meat wasn’t hung very high. With a light jump, Fei Yan would be able to reach it.
She struggled a little between starving all night and stealing a piece of meat. In the end, she chose the latter.
She was such a cute little kitty. Even if Chen Miansheng found out, surely he wouldn’t be mad. After all, she was only forced to make this decision because she didn’t want to wake him.
Yes, that’s right. It had to be this way.
Thinking so, Fei Yan carefully stretched out a paw toward the smallest piece of meat. But her body was too small, she couldn’t even reach the bottom of it.
After several failed attempts, Fei Yan gritted her teeth, pushed off hard with her hind legs, and leapt into the air. Just as she was about to touch the meat, she opened her mouth and successfully bit down on it.
And then—
A loud CRASH echoed through the room as the entire meat rack came tumbling down, pulling the neatly stacked firewood pile with it.
Fei Yan still had the meat in her mouth, but as she looked at the toppled wood and meat rack, she froze in confusion.
What just happened? All she did was pull a little bit—how did it end up like this?
She blinked a few times, plopped her round little butt down on the ground, and sat there with her four fluffy paws frozen in the air in a ridiculous pose.
Great. Now it was really over.

The Next Morning
Warm sunlight filtered through the window lattice, falling on Chen Miansheng. He could also feel a much warmer source of heat lying next to him.
He opened his eyes warily, instinctively reaching under his pillow, only to see a small, fluffy orange kitten curled up beside him.
Even in sleep, the little cat’s long tail swayed restlessly back and forth.
Chen Miansheng was briefly stunned. After a moment, he accepted the fact that he now had a cat, then started wondering—this kitten had been sleeping peacefully in her little nest last night. So why was she suddenly on his bed this morning?
He turned his eyes away, then noticed a familiar bundle of herbs beside the kitten—it looked like she had carried it over to make it easier for him to prepare medicine.
Chen Miansheng raised an eyebrow thoughtfully, his gaze falling on the kitten.
Was she really this thoughtful yesterday?
Perhaps his gaze was too intense, because Fei Yan stirred in her curled-up position and slowly opened her eyes.
“Meow?”
A strange environment came into view. She blinked in confusion.
Wait, wasn’t this Chen Miansheng’s bed? How did she end up here?
Wait… Last night, after accidentally making a mess of the woodshed, she got worried that Chen Miansheng would think she was a nuisance. So she quickly devoured the piece of meat and brought over the unboiled herbs, hoping he’d give her another chance at being a good cat.
And then…
His bed had been so warm, much better than her makeshift nest. She couldn’t resist the drowsiness and fell asleep.
Thinking of this, Fei Yan cautiously lifted her head. Seeing Chen Miansheng’s calm and gentle expression, she figured he probably didn’t know what she had done.
Suddenly, a low chuckle came from above.
Fei Yan’s face went blank: “?”
Why was he laughing out of nowhere?
She couldn’t see herself, but Chen Miansheng had a clear view.
The tiny orange kitten had a blank, slightly dazed expression. Maybe because she had just woken up, her big black eyes were round and blinking, looking innocent and a little silly.
He reached out and rubbed her head a few times, then nodded toward the little bed on the floor. “Little orange, didn’t we agree you’d sleep over there?”
At the mention of it, Fei Yan immediately felt guilty again. After struggling internally for a moment, she decided to play it safe. She cautiously crept closer to Chen Miansheng, placed her little paws on his arm, and nestled her furry head into the crook of his neck, rubbing against him a few times.
Feeling the sudden affection, Chen Miansheng narrowed his eyes slightly, finding it a bit odd.
How did this little kitten’s personality change overnight? She was completely different from yesterday.
He raised his eyebrows, pulled the kitten closer, about to say something—when the kitten suddenly let out a sneeze.
A rich scent of cured meat instantly filled the air, coming directly from the kitten.
Chen Miansheng: “…”
Fei Yan: “…”
Uh-oh. Guess she was completely exposed now.
