{Out of reach 2}
She raised her eyes again, it was already midday the next day.
Yu Suye and the dormitory head were determined to visit the address she had selected.
Even though the other party1 had said they didn’t want it anymore, Yu Suye couldn’t really not go.
The December sunlight was thin, like a faint light in a refrigerator.
She and the dormitory head huddled in thick cotton coats.
The dormitory head kept cursing at Lin Wushen all the way, but Yu Suye didn’t find it irritating. At one point, she even wanted to join in and say a few words, but as the words reached her lips, she almost immediately withdrew them.
That was her whole image.
Once it changed, she was afraid she wouldn’t be in control again.
So, she might as well diligently continue to “like” Lin Wushen.
They arrived at a bar near J University, opened by college students.
The bar was dimly lit.
Before the lights were even turned on, Yu Suye found a familiar senior graduate student and began inquiring about prices and explaining her difficult situation and financial struggles. Eventually, the senior agreed to let her bring her own balloons and ribbons.
Yu Suye should have been happy, but soon she realized she couldn’t force a smile. Her wallet had never been full because of Lin Wushen’s presence. After spending the little money left on these things and faced with the Meituan2 payment link sent by Lin Wushen’s roommate, Yu Suye felt a bit overwhelmed.
Did Lin Wushen really have no idea about any of this?
In the male dormitory, Room 16B.
As Lin Wushen listened to his roommates’ increasingly excited cheers, he felt a slight annoyance, but soon it passed.
He stood at the stairwell of the dormitory building, watching the crowd coming and going on the playground.
People greeted him occasionally as they passed by, and Lin Wushen responded as usual.
His gaze fell on the last page of his chat with Yu Suye. Ironically, she didn’t accept his rejection but instead brought him a sense of peace.
He had become accustomed to Yu Suye’s routine.
Organizing a birthday party for him was just like her, and inviting his roommates for a cup of coffee was expected.
Yu Suye really did like him.
He knew, of course he knows.
At first, he didn’t intend to take advantage of her feelings for him to achieve anything.
But once, during a departmental evaluation, when he thought he had no hope of winning a scholarship, Yu Suye’s various treats and snacks came just in time. That year, he was highly respected within the organization and received various scholarships within the university.
He couldn’t resist the benefits that Yu Suye brought.
But in a sense, he realized that what he was tacitly accepting was wrong.
He had tried several times to clarify things with her, but… there was never a good timing.
Lin Wushen attributed this to the deviation of time, the unfortunate circumstances of life, and his reluctance to disappoint Yu Suye too much.
As his dormitory mate suddenly patted his shoulder, Lin Wushen discreetly extinguished the cigarette he had just lit, as if it had never been lit before, then gracefully smiled and walked back into the dormitory.
On the tree-lined boulevard, by the green belt, Yellowed leaves of plane trees fell on Yu Suye’s shoulders, but she remained oblivious.
Yu Suye was deep in thoughts. She was calculating the various arrangements she was preparing for Lin Wushen’s birthday, while her roommate, who had gotten up early for this, was clearly impatient. Yet, in this damp and freezing weather, she was still thinking about which underground mall might have cheaper ribbons.
“Sweety Shang might have some. I’ll go there later and get some for you,” she said.
Yu Suye, feeling touched, wanted to warm her roommate’s hands, but was promptly refused.
Once again, the familiar accusation of “love brain” echoed in her ears.
Yu Suye’s gaze was drawn to a lengthened Bentley on the road. She thought such extravagant cars were usually only seen at weddings.
But the sleek black car disappeared at the next intersection.
Just when Yu Suye thought she couldn’t see it anymore, she unexpectedly spotted the car again at the next turn when crossing the road.
Her roommate didn’t make any snide remarks about wealth; instead, there was a hint of envy in her eyes.
Continuing from the previous topic, she sarcastically remarked, “Yu Suye, do you know what kind of men you should pursue?”
She answered her own question, “If you’re going to pursue someone, it should be someone like that.”
Yu Suye didn’t know what was going on with the car, but it was blocking their path, pretending to be paused.
The rear window slowly rolled down.
A petite and delicate face appeared, with skin like porcelain, a gracefully curved little nose, and eyes filled with innocent and romantic naivety.
Well, sitting in a car like that, Yu Suye thought, this girl’s life is bound to be free of worries.
But just a glance at her, Yu Suye felt something was amiss. The long-standing anxiety and restlessness in her heart suddenly eased, like a refreshing rain falling on parched land.
It had been a long time since Yu Suye felt so carefree without any burdens.
With a serene gaze, Yu Suye focused on the girl’s slightly flushed nose tip.
One hand awkwardly reached through the lingering cold air between them.
But before her hand could get close to the black Bentley, the driver suddenly stepped on the gas, and the car sped away.
All that was left were Yu Suye and her roommate standing there dumbfounded.
Once her roommate snapped out of it, she excitedly grabbed Yu Suye’s arm and exclaimed, “How could there be such a beautiful doll in the world? She’s like a doll straight out of a New Year painting!”
Yu Suye was still immersed in the impact of that face.
But she had clearly never seen this girl before. Why did she feel a strange familiarity, and why did the girl’s presence evoke such a long-lost yet comfortable feeling?
It was as if there were arrangements beyond one’s control.
Seeing that she hadn’t come to her senses yet, her roommate immediately chuckled, “Silly, why did you just reach out to touch someone else’s child?”
Yu Suye felt a bit bewildered. She didn’t know what was happening, but she felt compelled to reach out.
She urgently wanted to feel the warmth of the girl’s hand.
She briefly closed her eyes, and surprisingly, there was a healing power deep within her. At first, Yu Suye didn’t believe it herself, but when she took out her phone and saw the usual demands from Lin Wushen’s group of roommates for coffee and desserts—
She mustered up the courage and replied, ” I won’t buy anything anymore.”
And this time, her refusal surprisingly had no repercussions. She walked briskly with her roommate towards the direction of the school, feeling burden-free.
She tried hard to recall the car and the license plate number of the little girl.
Strangely, it seemed to coincide with the rumored license plate number of the car that Bian Yuan personally gave to Xu Wanwan.
