Chapter 104: The Pulse of Happiness
It was June again.
When Xie Yun woke up, Sang Yao was still asleep.
Her legs were intimately draped over his, nestled in his arms.
She had gained a bit more weight since she first married into the household, regaining some of the slender figure she had before the marriage.
But Xie Yun was still not entirely satisfied because she still looked very delicate, and he could easily hold her in one hand effortlessly.
He lay there with his eyes open, not making a sound or rushing to get up. Instead, he just watched the sleeping girl beside him.
Her warm breath fell on his arm, and her rosy lips pouted lightly as her cheeks were pressed.
Perhaps she was dreaming of something as she furrowed her brows lightly and then licked her dry lips.
Xie Yun’s eyes softened slightly as he watched her for a while, unable to resist reaching out his hand.
His fingers lightly touched her cheek.
A light cough sounded from outside—it was Jinglian’s voice.
Xie Yun’s lips, which had been curved up, quickly straightened. That dog servant was urging him to get up again.
Since they got married, Sang Yao often woke up with him.
She was very serious about everything she did, and when she got busy, she hardly paid attention to him.
But starting this month, for some reason, she seemed to be sleeping more than usual.
Every time he got up, there was no sign of Sang Yao waking up. Sometimes, even if he accidentally made some noise, he couldn’t wake her up.
As Xie Yun thought about it, the fingers that had been hanging by her cheek lightly touched her.
Before he could do anything, the dog servant outside started coughing again.
Xie Yun withdrew his hand numbly, his face showing impatience.
He lifted the thin blanket and tucked Sang Yao in, then casually put on some clothes before gently opening the door.
Jinglian outside immediately stood up straight, sneaking a glance at him.
His face didn’t look good.
He quickly lowered his head.
Xie Yun closed the door and felt the heavy pressure emanating from the man. Jinglian, feeling guilty, said, “Young Master, if we don’t leave now, we’ll be late.”
Xie Yun glared at him, silent.
Jinglian stared at the tip of the man’s shoe and then heard him say indifferently, “Who gave you the courage to hurry me?”
It’s really funny.
Who else could it be but you, you scoundrel! Twice this man almost missed important matters because he was indulging in his gentle fantasies. He scolded him harshly, saying he should remind himself.
Men are truly fickle.
Madam Shao is really unlucky!
Xie Yun couldn’t be bothered to listen to his explanations. With a cold face and long strides, he walked faster to catch up with him.
He certainly didn’t dare to argue with Xie Yun, so he could only apologize skillfully: “I know my mistake.”
Xie Yun pushed open the side room door and casually asked, “Has Yang Wenchuan arrived?”
He signaled for the maid to come in and serve water, saying, “Master Yang arrived two months ago. The situation on Master Yang’s side is not easy to handle, and he won’t be back within three years.”
He thought for a moment and added, “Please rest assured, Master.”
After wiping his hands, Xie Yun tossed the handkerchief aside and looked at him coldly, “Rest assured about what?”
He continued, “His return to Jiangnan was his own choice, what does it have to do with me?”
Heads down, complexion complex.
It’s really amazing that he can say such things.
It is indeed Master Yang’s voluntary choice, but the key is that he had no other choice at the time.
In the beginning, it was because Master Yang provoked him in person, saying that he used despicable means to make Madam Shao willingly marry him.
He didn’t say anything wrong. As for going to great lengths to bring Master Yang back to Jiangnan…
He still won’t admit it.
“It has nothing to do with you.”
He snorted and said, “It’s because of me, because of my narrow-mindedness. I couldn’t stand Master Yang, who had ulterior motives towards Madam Shao, staying in the capital. Now that Master Yang has left, I can rest assured.”
Xie Yun had finished washing up. He tied the sachet that Sang Yao had made for him to his belt and walked past him, glancing at him and saying, “Good to know.”
“Sang Yao slept for a long time. When she woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
Even so, she still felt groggy.
When Huai Meng came in to bring her clothes, Sang Yao was still sitting on the bed, feeling like she couldn’t wake up.
Seeing Sang Yao looking drowsy, Huai Meng softly said, ‘Miss, if you’re tired, why not sleep a little longer? There’s nothing important today.’
Sang Yao shook her head, her voice hoarse, murmuring to herself, ‘Why do I feel like I’m sleeping all the time?’
Before, if she slept with Xie Yun at night, she would be so tired that she’d fall asleep two or three times, and she would wake up late the next day. But the problem was that she hadn’t really slept much with Xie Yun these past two days, yet she still felt very tired.
Could this be what they call ‘spring sleepiness’?
Why doesn’t Xie Yun seem sleepy at all, always full of energy? Sang Yao said, “Huai Meng, if I haven’t woken up after the hour, just wake me up.”
Huai Meng persuaded, “Miss, you’re usually tired, so it’s good to sleep a little longer.”
Sang Yao got out of bed, muttering, “But I’ve slept for too long.”
Could this ‘spring sleepiness’ be just for her?
She felt embarrassed to ask Huai Meng, so she said, “Have someone bring in breakfast.”
She was hungry as soon as she woke up, just like the past few days.
It didn’t seem right to say she was sick, as who gets sick and only thinks about eating or sleeping?
She made up her mind that she definitely couldn’t go on like this.
The smell of the meal quickly wafted over. Sang Yao got out of bed to wash up. Before she even finished grooming, she sat down at the table and, very satisfied, took a sip of the fragrant sweet porridge.
She said to Huai Meng, “Huai Meng, the honey-glazed bamboo shoots and chicken from yesterday’s lunch were really good. Have the kitchen prepare them again today.”
Huai Meng agreed, and after Sang Yao finished breakfast, she originally wanted to go see her adorable niece at Yu Zhi’s place. But by the time she finished dressing up, another hour had passed.
Xie Yun was already back.
He happened to join Sang Yao for lunch.
When Xie Yun pushed open the door, Sang Yao was already eating.
When she saw him, her cheeks puffed up, and she couldn’t speak for a moment.
But those bright eyes already expressed her thoughts very clearly.
Xie Yun took off his outer garment and sat across from her, explaining, ‘
“There’s nothing important in the afternoon.”
Sang Yao swallowed what was in her mouth and said, “But it’s not good for you to leave early like this. Wouldn’t it cause gossip?”
Xie Yun picked up a vegetable and put it in Sang Yao’s bowl, saying, “It won’t.”
Sang Yao looked at his actions, then looked down at the large piece of chicken that had been added to her bowl, and suddenly stopped.
It was a very ordinary action, nothing special.
But at that moment, looking at the half-bowl of rice in her bowl, she became sensitive and suddenly felt sad.
Xie Yun asked softly, “What’s wrong, don’t you like it?”
Sang Yao shook her head, then looked at Xie Yun sadly and said, “Xie Yun, have I gained weight?”
Xie Yun said firmly, “No.”
Sang Yao pinched her small belly, which was clearly a bit softer than before, and said, “Can’t you tell?”
Xie Yun said without changing his expression, “I even think you’ve lost weight.”
“Do you prefer me thinner or fatter?”
Xie Yun said, “I like both.”
In fact, he preferred her to be a bit plump, because he heard from Tai Tai that if a woman is too slender, it’s not a good thing.
Sang Yao’s sadness was somewhat relieved.
She resumed eating with her chopsticks, then lowered her head, giggling to herself, “You’re so clingy.”
Xie Yun said, “Is this clingy?”
“I can be even more clingy, do you want to hear?”
Sang Yao tightened her grip on her chopsticks, thinking that they were an old married couple, and this man was talking nonsense.
She said, “I’m not listening.”
Xie Yun lowered his head and said, “Okay then.”
After finishing her meal, Sang Yao sneakily glanced at him again, then cleared her throat and said, “…If you really want to say it, I definitely won’t stop you.”
Xie Yun smiled and looked at Sang Yao, “Then I’ll say it.”
Sang Yao picked up a bite of rice, “Go ahead.”
Xie Yun leisurely said, “Actually, there’s a lot to do in the afternoon.”
“I missed you so much that I came back specially.”
Sang Yao clenched her chopsticks, feeling extremely embarrassed.
She glared at Xie Yun and said, “You’re so clingy.”
She pretended to stick out her tongue and said, “Disgusting.”
Xie Yun then picked up a piece of fish and put it in her bowl, saying, “Actions speak louder than words.”
Sang Yao ate with her head down and casually said, “Still disgusting.”
When she put the piece of fish Xie Yun had given her into her mouth, for some reason, the delicious sea bass that used to taste so good now had a strong fishy taste in her mouth.
She frowned.
Xie Yun continued, “Just kidding–“
Before he could finish speaking, Sang Yao suddenly turned her head and covered her chest, retching.
Xie Yun: ‘…’
This can’t be.
For a moment, the room was extremely quiet, only the sound of Sang Yao retching could be heard.
Xie Yun hurriedly stood up, gently patting her back.
When Sang Yao eased up a bit, he stood up and poured her a cup of tea, handing it to her lips.
Sang Yao rinsed her mouth with his help.
Xie Yun whispered, “I won’t say anything else. Are you feeling better, Yao Yao?”
But as soon as he finished speaking, Sang Yao lowered her head and retched again.
Xie Yun: ‘…’
He remained silent and then raised his voice to call Huai Meng in, asking someone to fetch the doctor.
After Sang Yao finished retching, her face was slightly pale.
She took the handkerchief Xie Yun handed her and wiped her mouth, looking at the man who was frowning and silent at the moment.
“…Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Because I’m afraid you’ll feel disgusted.”
Sang Yao had recovered somewhat by now.
She looked down at the table full of food, feeling no appetite. She said softly, “I probably ate too much.”
The food on the table was removed.
Xie Yun didn’t want to face the fact that Sang Yao might be disgusted by him, so he didn’t ask further.
He just said, “Is there anything else uncomfortable?”
Sang Yao shook her head, “No, there’s no need to call the doctor.”
Otherwise, it would be too embarrassing to say she vomited because she ate too much.
However, contrary to her wishes, the doctor quickly entered the West Yard, summoned by Jing Lian.
Sang Yao struggled, “There’s really no need.”
She had never seen a patient who could eat and sleep.
But her struggles were futile.
Xie Yun stood by Sang Yao’s side, his hand on her shoulder, his gaze never leaving the doctor who was examining her pulse.
After a while, the doctor, whose face had turned pale, withdrew his hand and stood up.
Xie Yun asked, “How is it?”
The doctor smiled and said to the two of them, “Congratulations, Madam. Your pulse is strong and smooth, indicating a happy pulse. You have been pregnant for over a month.”
The room fell silent.
Xie Yun’s hand on Sang Yao’s shoulder suddenly tightened.
The first to react was Jing Lian, who had been watching them at the door.
His face was blank, and he took a step back, covering his mouth as tears welled up in his eyes.
He was more excited than if he himself had a child.
Then it was Sang Yao, who stared blankly for a moment, then said, “This… this can’t be possible, right?”
She looked up at Xie Yun, who was also still processing the news, and whispered to him, “But you can’t, can you?”
