Chapter 52
Ye Wulan suddenly realized something, his mesmerizing eyes flashing with shock and disbelief. For a moment, his gaze seemed distant, as if he had been transported back to the days of the Enchanter Demon tribe.
Back then, in the sacrificial shrine, the Grand Priest would conduct divinations at regular intervals. He would then sketch the visions he saw—some could be interpreted, while others remained shrouded in mystery, even beyond his understanding.
After the coming-of-age ritual, pure-blooded Enchanter Beasts could use a blood sacrifice to foresee their future. However, such a ritual was only ever performed in times of desperate peril. Yet, long ago, the Grand Priest had once carried out a divination and drawn an image.
An image identical to the food beside Ye Baizhi. At the time, no one had understood what it was. Later, when the Enchanter Demon tribe was annihilated, Ye Wulan’s father used a blood sacrifice to guide him to the Rabbit Tribe—and revealed another secret to him.
Unaware of his presence, Ye Baizhi remained focused on wrapping wontons.
Meanwhile, Da Bao had already noticed Ye Wulan’s arrival and sweetly called out, “Father Ye!”
Upon hearing him, Ye Wulan’s expression instantly softened. He walked over slowly. “Ah, Da Bao is so well-behaved.”
Ye Wulan gazed at Da Bao, his eyes filled with warmth and delight.
This child was indeed remarkable—a pure-blooded spiritual Snow Wolf Beast. From the moment of birth, he had already surpassed all other cubs in the Beast Continent, possessing intelligence and inheriting the ancestral powers. It was clear he had always been exceptionally bright, understanding far more than most, and carrying the abilities of his lineage.
Also, he truly liked being called “Father.”
Ye Baizhi almost crushed the wonton in her hands. Her child was really something else. He always managed to say the most astonishing things. And the most unbelievable part—he wasn’t even aware of it himself!
He had already shifted from “Uncle Ye” to “Father Ye.”
Da Bao looked at Ye Wulan and could sense his frailty. He instinctively felt that Father Ye had endured a great deal, and his heart swelled with pity.
With serious determination, Da Bao said, “Mother is wrapping wontons. If Father Ye eats the food Mother made, his body will recover.”
Ye Baizhi herself hadn’t even considered this. Her food, infused with her wood-based ability and spiritual spring water, indeed had nourishing properties.
Ye Wulan softened even further. “Father Ye is grateful to our Da Bao.”
“And Da Bao, since you have a spiritual body, there’s no need to fear. Before we go out, I will seal your spiritual energy so no one will detect it.”
However, his body was still weak, and for now, he was unable to perform the secret technique. He needed to recover first.
Da Bao understood this well and nodded. “Mm-hmm, Father Ye, I know.”
“You’re so good.”
Ye Wulan couldn’t help but marvel—her child was truly exceptional.
In time, this boy would surely become a force to be reckoned with in the Beast Continent. Even at birth, his strength was already remarkable. One day, breaking through the Mortal Beast Realm and stepping into Transcendence would be effortless for him. Most importantly, he possessed dual elemental abilities—something unheard of in the Beast Continent.
Ye Baizhi glanced at Ye Wulan. After freshening up, he was even more striking—every movement carried a stunning allure—a breathtaking presence. When he focused on someone, his gaze held an irresistible charm, as if he was born to mesmerize. He looked at Ye Baizhi with a gentle expression, and she suddenly found herself avoiding his gaze—afraid that she might drown in the depths of his eyes.
“You’re all cleaned up?”
“Mm. Let me help.”
“No need. I’m nearly done—soon, we can cook the wontons.”
Ye Wulan murmured, “This food… it’s called wonton?”
“Mm, yes. You wrap the meat filling in thin dough—this is called wonton. There’s another type of wrapping called dumplings.”
“We’ll have wontons for breakfast and dumplings for dinner.” Now that she had flour, Ye Baizhi wanted to eat noodles or dumplings at every meal.
Since arriving in this world, it had been a long time since she had tasted food made from flour. She believed that flour-based foods truly embodied human ingenuity.
Ye Baizhi glanced at Ye Wulan. He was staring at the wontons with a curious expression as if he were analyzing them.
She asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Is there something unusual about wontons?”
“Don’t worry, they’re delicious—you’ll know once you try them!”
Ye Wulan slowly explained, “Back in my tribe, the Grand Priest once had a vision during a divination. He recorded it in drawings.”
“There was this and this.” As he spoke, he picked up a feather pen and sketched the shapes of wontons, dumplings, and rice cakes on a wooden board.
“Later, after my father’s blood sacrifice, he told me to go to the Rabbit Tribe in search of you. He also told me that you would bring all kinds of food to the Beast Continent.”
“He said the images the Grand Priest had drawn weren’t just symbols—they were actual foods.”
“My father said he had never seen or tasted them before, but he hoped that one day, I would be able to.”
“I hope that one day, the Beast Continent will be rich in food.”
“He said that perhaps with abundance, conflicts might lessen.”
“My father likely knew that our Enchanter Demon tribe was targeted and annihilated due to food-related issues.”
Many tribes suffered from food shortages, even those that could store large quantities of food. But the Enchanter Demon tribe had mastered long-term food preservation and had always stockpiled supplies.
Ye Baizhi was astonished. “Your tribe’s abilities were truly remarkable.”
“I believe food will become more plentiful.”
“Tonight, we’ll wrap dumplings—just like the ones you sketched.”
“But the one you drew called rice cake requires rice, which we don’t have right now.”
“Maybe one day we’ll find some in the Beast Continent.”
“It seems food scarcity is a serious issue here.”
Ye Wulan nodded. “Mm. Your Rabbit Tribe’s leader manages the settlement well. Everyone works hard and is able to hunt.”
“But in many other tribes, the food shortage is extreme. Even when it’s not winter, there are still beastmen who starve to death.”
“In the market, food stalls are always the busiest.”
“The most bustling streets in the city are lined with food shops.”
Ye Baizhi’s gaze sharpened. “Once we leave, I doubt we’ll be able to return to the Rabbit Tribe.”
“But we could set up a food stall to earn our first profits—then purchase a shop.”
“Since food is in high demand, and I excel at cooking…”
She knew that lower-ranked beast tribes exchanged goods in the marketplace. Meanwhile, noble clans and wealthy beastmen preferred shopping in cities—similar to ancient marketplaces. This was knowledge embedded in her predecessor’s memories.
The Central Region’s Imperial City bore a striking resemblance to the architecture of ancient capitals. Most buildings were constructed from stone—sturdy enough to withstand attacks. However, stone houses lack insulation. That’s why, before winter arrives, wild beast fur becomes highly sought after. This was the reason the Rabbit Tribe stored both fur and meat—to exchange them for supplies in the market.
Even if she couldn’t return, the tribe could still sustain itself thanks to everything she had taught them. She no longer had to worry about that.
But she still had enemies to deal with. She had to protect Da Bao and needed to earn wealth and establish her own power quickly—hiring people and building an elite beast warrior army.
Listening to her plans, Ye Wulan nodded in agreement. “True strength lies in hiding—this method will work.”
