Daye, the fifteenth year of Jinghe, the imperial capital.
“We’re almost there, almost there, Lady Yu. Look, the half-visible city at the foot of the mountain is the capital of our Great Daye, also called Daye City,” Lin Mama pointed in the direction, her face beaming.
Yu Ning lifted the carriage curtain, shielding her eyes from the blazing sun, and looked in the direction Lin Mama indicated.
The caravan was traveling on a mountain road, halfway up the mountain. From here, one could see most of the city.
Daye was currently experiencing a prosperous era, with a full treasury and peaceful citizens. Therefore, Daye City was frequently repaired and expanded, appearing imposing and magnificent from afar.
Two imperial capitals had stood here. The Heavenly Street under the emperor’s feet was dazzling and splendid, truly a dreamlike prosperity and ultimate wealth.
“It truly lives up to its name as the capital. The city walls are so grand, it looks ten times larger than Qingyun City.”
Yu Ning, having lived for over twenty years, had never seen such a bustling place.
She had always lived in the harsh, war-torn borderlands. The largest and most prosperous place she had ever seen was Qingyun City to the south, where she had lived for five years.
If it weren’t for the Yongning Marquis Manor in the capital sending people to claim her as their long-lost daughter, insisting and persuading her to come to the capital with promises of a comfortable and wealthy life for the rest of her days, she would still be in Qingyun City.
Yu Ning wasn’t exactly poor in Qingyun City; she was quite well-off compared to ordinary families. She wasn’t short of money, but many things couldn’t be solved with money.
She hadn’t had much good fortune in her life, but her daughter was still young, and Yu Ning wanted her child to have a broader world to grow up in.
“Our Yongning Marquis Manor is located in the southeast of the inner city, with the Jin Prince’s Mansion to the left and the Yunmeng River to the right. We have the largest restaurants, elegant tea houses, and entertainment districts built in front and behind, so even if you go out at midnight, both sides are still brightly lit. It’s a very lively area.”
Lin Mama chattered about the customs and interesting things in the capital to help her young lady better understand the place, but as she spoke, she couldn’t help but wipe away tears.
“Since the young lady went missing, we searched everywhere without success. The Madam has been thinking about her day and night, constantly worried, to the point that her health has deteriorated day by day.”
Lin Mama cried for a while, then looked at Yu Ning with tears in her eyes, smiling with relief: “It’s all right now. The young lady is about to return home. Mother and daughter will be reunited. The Madam will be overjoyed and cherish the young lady immensely.”
“Mama, don’t cry, wipe your face,” Yu Ning handed her a clean handkerchief, nodding helplessly without saying anything discouraging.
Actually, it was uncertain. What if she wasn’t the missing daughter of the Yongning Marquis Manor? Wouldn’t it be a false joy?
She had already told Lin Mama not to rush to call her “young lady,” but to call her “Lady Yu” instead, but Lin Mama couldn’t remember, and after two sentences, the address changed from “Lady Yu” to “young lady.”
She was a woman raised in a bandit den. Even if she really was the daughter of the Yongning Marquis Manor, it was uncertain whether the noble families there would accept her. So calling her “young lady” now was really premature.
Two hours later, the Yongning Marquis Manor’s caravan stopped outside the capital city and slowly proceeded into the city with the crowd.
Xiaobao, who had been learning to ride horses from his uncle, ran back to the carriage, excitedly throwing herself into Yu Ning’s arms.
“Mother, riding a horse is so much fun! I want to learn to ride horses from Uncle again!” Little Yu Xiaobao was excited, describing to Yu Ning how much fun riding a horse was.
“It’s just riding a horse, look how excited you are. Didn’t Mother promise to teach you herself? Look at you, covered in dust.”
Xiaobao snuggled into her mother’s arms, “It was fun!”
Yu Ning originally didn’t want Xiaobao to call Xie Yutang “Uncle,” but Xie Yutang was very good at making children happy. Along the way, he kept Xiaobao entertained, teaching her hunting and riding, showing off his skills. Seeing how happy her daughter was, Yu Ning didn’t bother correcting her.
