Chapter 127: Weight Loss Reached a Bottleneck
The 15th of every month was the day Luo Fei called home to report his safety.
As soon as the phone was connected, Luo Fei was told some great news.
“Are you sure that person is Aunt?” Luo Fei couldn’t contain his excitement.
On the other end of the line, Luo Fei’s grandfather’s voice trembled with excitement as well. “Yes, we arranged for someone to bring her to Hong Kong. I heard their medical technology is advanced, and after checking some test results, it confirmed that she is indeed your aunt.”
For the sake of his youngest daughter, Luo Fei’s grandfather had used all the connections he could.
Finding his lost daughter in his lifetime was the greatest blessing he could ask for.
Even if he were to close his eyes right now, he would do so contentedly.
“Is Aunt awake yet?” When Luo Fei was young, he often heard his grandfather and father talk about his aunt, who was swept away by the flood. They said that his aunt had been very beautiful and well-behaved when she was younger.
All these years, neither his grandfather nor father had given up on looking for her.
Now that they had found her, everyone in the Luo family was overjoyed.
When his grandfather mentioned that his aunt was still unconscious, his tone turned somber. “The doctors said your aunt suffered a head injury years ago. Now, after experiencing a huge emotional shock, she fell into a coma. If she isn’t treated promptly, it could be life-threatening.”
This was the reason they had worked so hard to send her to Hong Kong, despite the current chaos.
Having already experienced the pain of losing a son and a grandson in his lifetime, Luo Fei’s grandfather couldn’t bear to lose his youngest daughter again, not after finally finding her.
“Grandfather, have you found out if Aunt is married or has children?”
“It seems like someone deliberately erased all traces of your aunt’s past. We’re investigating that, too, afraid she might have married and has children waiting for her.”
Luo Fei’s grandfather had barely slept peacefully these past few days, thinking of everything that might have happened during the years his daughter had been missing.
He didn’t know how his youngest daughter had lived these years.
“Grandfather, if there’s anything, we can talk it over by letter.” The conversation about his aunt had delayed quite a bit of time.
“Alright, the family has transferred money to you. Spend it as you wish, don’t be stingy. If anything happens, be sure to tell your dad, tell me. The family will find a way, but don’t carry everything by yourself, understood?”
After reluctantly hanging up the phone with his grandfather, Luo Fei walked out of the post office and immediately spotted Qiu Yinuo, who was struggling to carry her two sons.
He waved his hand. “Comrade Qiu.”
Dabao, upon seeing the familiar face, immediately reached out, wanting to be held.
It was just too tiring for his mother to carry both kids.
Luo Fei couldn’t help but smile, extending his arms to scoop up Dabao. “Comrade Qiu, your Dabao is so smart, he even remembers me.”
Dabao clearly said two words: “Uncle!”
Luo Fei exclaimed, “That’s right, I’m Uncle. When Dabao grows up a bit more, Uncle will buy you some candy, how about some White Rabbit Creamy Candy?”
Dabao nodded, and in Luo Fei’s eyes, this was nothing short of a genius.
“Comrade Qiu, Dabao is a clever child. You must nurture him well. Who knows, maybe he will achieve great things in the future.”
Qiu Yinuo was speechless.
Facing Luo Fei’s excitement, Qiu Yinuo couldn’t help but feel her arms lighten. If it weren’t for the fact that she needed to give that little brat a chance to save face, she would have stuffed him back into space.
“Comrade Luo, why are you here in town today?”
“Every 15th of the month, I call home to report my safety.”
“I see.”
“Are you planning to return to the village now, Comrade Qiu?”
“Yes, it’s not very convenient for me to wander around with the kids.”
Luo Fei casually said, “Coincidentally, I’m also heading back to the village. I can help you bring Dabao along.”
“No, no need. I came by bike, so it might be inconvenient for you.”
“What a coincidence. I just bought a bicycle last month. Cost me a bike voucher and 340 yuan. Quite a bargain, really.” To Luo Fei, this amount of money was nothing, so he said it nonchalantly. However, Qiu Yinuo couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy.
340 yuan… and he called that cheap?
As a result, Dabao looked up at the “living money god” in front of him.
Secretly, he made a decision: once he could speak properly, he would definitely hold onto this uncle’s leg tightly.
Seeing Dabao looking at him, Luo Fei smiled even more brightly.
Some people’s smiles are contagious, and Dabao, without knowing why, smiled along too.
The two of them, with their smiles, shared an unexpectedly similar curve, and both of them froze for a moment.
At that moment, Qiu Yinuo finally understood what people meant when they said “the joys of the wealthy are beyond your comprehension.”
A single man and a single woman, to avoid unnecessary trouble, Qiu Yinuo still refused. “Better not. It wouldn’t be good if people in the village saw us. Just help me put Dabao in the basket.”
Luo Fei was momentarily stunned; he hadn’t considered that. “Sorry, I didn’t think that through.”
“It’s fine, I know you mean well.”
A week later, after getting the photos, Qiu Yinuo sent a package to the teacher, including some peach preserves and wood ear mushrooms from home. She included a letter asking about the teacher’s well-being and telling them not to spend any more money on new clothes.
She also inquired about her mother-in-law, hoping there would be some news after such a long time. There were many wealthy families in the capital, but it was impossible to hide if a new person suddenly appeared in the household.
…
During Qianjin’s recovery at home, he was closely watched by the whole family. They even worried that if he spent a few more minutes in the outhouse, he might end up falling into the cesspit due to his injury.
He had no time to follow Dongzi and investigate, and this delay led Dongzi, unable to wait any longer, to secretly get in touch with Er Gouzi’s cousin.
The day Qianjin’s health improved enough to go back to work, Qiu Yinuo was able to sleep in for once.
She even skipped her morning exercise. If it hadn’t been for Qingqing waking her up for lunch, she probably would have slept longer.
Yawning lazily, she ate a little, then energized herself for a run.
After dropping to 129 pounds, Qiu Yinuo hit a new weight-loss plateau.
She skipped dinner and increased her exercise, yet still couldn’t shed a single pound.
This had led to her eating poorly and sleeping badly lately.
Her anxiety was showing in her pale complexion.
Occasionally, she would mutter to herself, “I wonder if there’s any ancient Chinese weight-loss remedy in the space. With so many books, when will I ever find it?”
After enduring another week and a half of frustration, Qiu Yinuo slipped into the space.
Dabao immediately waved at her. “Mom, come quickly, look what I found!”
Qiu Yinuo hurried a few steps forward. “What did you find?”
Her eyes locked on the page Dabao was holding, where it boldly read “How to Lose Weight.”
She couldn’t help but gasp. “Dabao, did you find this?”
Dabao puffed up proudly. “Of course not.”
