Married the Retired Village Tyrant in Place of My Sister—Now I Speak to Beasts and Lead My Family to Glory Chapter 9

Chapter 9 – The Chicken Drama

“Why are you thanking me? We rarely get the chance to reunite as mother and daughter. If I don’t spend money on you, who else would I spend it on?”

Jiang Niannian smiled warmly.

“My mom really is the best mom in the world.”

Jiang Weiguo, who was footing the bill: What about me?

As they left the supply cooperative, a small village mutt came running over, barking.

[Woof woof! My owner just withdrew money from the bank and got stabbed. The robber took all the money! Can anyone help my owner?!]

Jiang Niannian immediately asked, “Where are they?”

The little mutt tilted its head, unsure if she could actually understand, and hesitantly barked:

[Woof woof! Just down that alley over there. Can you help my owner?]

Her instincts from her past career kicked in. Without a second thought, Jiang Niannian took off running toward the alley. Halfway down, she realized what she’d done—but by then, she already saw someone lying on the ground.

“小土狗, go follow the robber! I’ll help your owner!”

As she rushed over, Jiang Weiguo and Wang Yingxiu came running after her.

“Comrade, are you alright? Let me take a look at your wound.”

She saw the man clutching his side, blood still seeping out from under his hand.

Jiang Weiguo stepped forward with a frown. “Niannian, move aside. I’ll carry him to the clinic.”

Niannian quickly stepped back. She didn’t have some magical healing spring or space—so it was better to let her dad, who still had strength, do it. He easily picked up the man in a princess carry and jogged off toward the nearby clinic.

Niannian and Wang Yingxiu followed behind.

“Mom, I’m going to call the police. The guy got robbed too. I told the dog to follow the robber, but the longer we wait, the farther he’ll get.”

Wang Yingxiu glanced at her daughter, then at her husband already running in the distance.

“I’ll go with you to the station—you don’t know where the clinic is.”

The mother and daughter dashed to the police station to file a report.

Two officers came out and followed them to the clinic to assess the situation.

Inside, Jiang Weiguo was covered in blood from carrying the injured man, and quickly saluted when he saw the officers.

Only then did Jiang Niannian realize her dad had once served in the military.

“Hello, comrades. The doctor’s already stopped the bleeding. You can come over and ask him questions.”

Liu Aiguo stepped forward to take the victim’s statement, while Jiang Niannian saw the little mutt come trotting back and immediately asked, “Did you find where the guy went?”

[Found him! I can take you there so we can avenge my owner!]

Jiang Niannian turned to her mom. Wang Yingxiu nodded. After all, even in modern times she hadn’t been taken in for research—people were even more simple and honest in this era.

So Jiang Niannian told the officers:

“Comrades, I have a bit of a gift—I can understand animals, just a little. The dog belonging to this man said it found where the robber went. There are four people inside right now, playing cards. Should we call for backup?”

The officers nodded immediately. Zhao Youwei declared:

“Come with us to the station—we’ll get backup and catch those bastards. How dare they stab even my father-in-law? I will bring them in.”

Niannian hadn’t expected the victim to be the officer’s father-in-law. She got ready to follow them, and Jiang Weiguo, still worried, decided to come along too.

They all left the clinic in a hurry.

From another direction, Xiao Jingyan and Wang Lin happened to walk out and saw the group from behind.

Wang Lin craned his neck, curious.

“Where are they going? Why is Uncle Jiang covered in blood?”

Xiao Jingyan frowned. “Let’s go see.”
