Chapter 17: Distant to Everyone
“I know she wouldn’t harm you; after all, you’re carrying her elder brother’s child.” Tian Shi pulled her arm, her small eyes rolling. “But think about it, a sixteen-year-old girl, what does she know about medicine? She just got lucky. If she prescribed the wrong medicine, your baby would be in danger!”
Liu Shi nervously covered her belly.
“No way? I took the medicine she gave me, and I didn’t feel unwell.”
“Normally, a four-month-old baby should be moving. Do you feel anything in your belly?” Tian Shi asked, looking at her belly.
Liu Shi shook her head. “No.”
“Then why don’t you quickly see a physician? Why are you still taking medicine from your younger sister-in-law? This is reckless!” Tian Shi worried for her.
Seeing Tian Shi’s expression, Liu Shi, who had been calm, also became anxious.
“But my mother-in-law is picking vegetables in the mountains, and Jinyuan is fetching water. Where can I find a physician?”
Tian Shi pointed towards Song Yuntang’s room.
“Isn’t your younger sister-in-law still home? You’ve been taking care of her. It’s not too much to ask her to go to Sanli Po, is it?”
Song Yuntang, lying in her room, could no longer bear it.
She got up, put on her shoes, and went out, saying coldly, “I won’t go to Sanli Po. I don’t know where Sanli Po is.”
This was true. In three years in Rongshu Village, she only knew the way to town.
Tian Shi glared at her. “You’re ungrateful and uncaring! If you hadn’t prescribed the wrong medicine, your sister-in-law’s four-month belly wouldn’t be so still! Maybe you deliberately tried to harm your nephew!”
Song Yuntang raised an eyebrow, her voice still calm.
“Tell me, why would I harm him? What benefit would it be to me?”
“Who knows why you’d harm him?” Tian Shi snorted. “Everyone in the village knows you’re lazy and always think about your past wealthy life. Maybe you just can’t stand your sister-in-law living a good life.”
Tian Shi’s agitation woke her son, who began to cry.
The weather was hot, and she had been unjustly accused. Hearing the baby cry, Song Yuntang became even more annoyed and impatient.
“Poor nutrition leads to slow fetal growth, and a weak pregnant woman may not feel fetal movement. It’s normal! You don’t know anything, so don’t talk nonsense!”
Tian Shi bounced her son while shouting at Song Yuntang, “Why am I talking nonsense? You’re so vicious! You beat your elders and even tried to harm your own nephew!”
Their argument attracted many onlookers. Farmers had little to do besides farming, so any commotion was a spectacle, watched with great interest.
Song Yuntang’s expression turned cold.
“Tian Qiuyan, because you’re holding a child, I won’t hit you. But if you dare to provoke me again, don’t blame me for being impolite!”
Liu Xiangyun quickly stepped in, pushing Tian Qiuyan towards the courtyard gate.
“Alright, alright, Tian sister-in-law, go back. We’re all neighbors. Don’t let my matter cause trouble. I believe Tang’er is a good person.”
Tian Shi was stubborn. The more Liu Shi pushed, the more she squeezed in with her child.
“Don’t stop me. I want to see how she’ll be impolite!”
Song Yuntang crossed her arms and raised her voice slightly.
“I dare to hit my elders and harm my own nephew. What do you think I’ll do to someone unrelated to me?”
Her voice was cold, her smile sinister, making her look terrifying.
Seeing her expression, Tian Shi’s fierceness subsided. She stepped back, trembling, and pointed at Song Yuntang.
“You vicious woman! You’re so evil, you’ll be punished sooner or later!”
“I don’t know if I’ll be punished,” She picked up the broom leaning against the wall, saying lightly, “But if you don’t leave, your punishment will come.”
Liu Shi quickly pushed Tian Qiuyan out of the courtyard.
“Tian sister-in-law, go. You don’t want to hurt the baby.”
Seeing Song Yuntang’s furious expression, Tian Qiuyan was also a little scared. She muttered at the gate before quickly leaving with her child.
Song Yuntang looked around coldly before slamming the courtyard gate shut.
Turning back, she looked at the frightened Liu Shi.
“Sister-in-law, did you also think I would harm your child?”
Liu Shi quickly shook her head. “No.”
Song Yuntang wasn’t interested in her thoughts. Walking towards her room, she said,
“This reminds me not to meddle in other people’s business.” Pausing, she looked at Liu Shi. “But if it weren’t for your concern about my brother’s fainting, I wouldn’t have bothered with you.”
Her brother’s injury two days ago was because of her.
After saying that, Song Yuntang returned to her room, leaving Liu Shi standing in the courtyard, at a loss.
She felt wronged.
When Tian Shi first spoke about Song Yuntang, she had fully trusted her younger sister-in-law. Even after their argument, she still didn’t think her younger sister-in-law would harm her. But her younger sister-in-law’s words were chilling.
