Chapter 15: I’ll Worry About You
Wang Tiejiang let out a heavy sigh, clearly troubled as well.
The two looked at each other, but neither spoke first. Frankly, there wasn’t much to say. They used to roll around passionately in the same bed, but now, they were strangers.
—Elsewhere—
Jiang Yunhe pulled Chu Peihan behind a large tree and listened carefully to their conversation. Only after hearing everything did she finally turn and leave. If they didn’t follow her plan, she wouldn’t mind circling back to deal with them again.
Chu Peihan, though helpless, also indulged her a little. When they were far enough away, he finally said, “Feel better? If not, we can always lock him up for a few years. Might be even more satisfying that way.”
Jiang Yunhe shook her head, “No need, no need. If he’s locked up, where’s the fun in that? There’s got to be someone left jumping around to keep the show going.”
That line—hit just right.
Chu Peihan looked at her now and found everything about her to his liking.
Courageous and clever, vengeful and merciless.
Playful and sweet, with seemingly endless layers.
“What do you think they’ll do next?”
“Thirsty?” Jiang Yunhe suddenly stopped walking and handed him a magical water bubble. Realizing how dark it was, she figured it’d be a good time to give him some spiritual spring water.
That way, even if Chu Peihan got suspicious, she could dodge the truth.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell him about the space, she just didn’t know how to explain her rebirth. Her past life was far from glorious, and she wasn’t ready to talk about it.
Chu Peihan blinked, momentarily confused.
Jiang Yunhe shoved the bubble into his hand, not even trying to hide it. “I just packed some stuff on the way out—make do and drink it.”
Chu Peihan: “Ah… oh!”
Jiang Yunhe: “Oh what? Just drink it!”
She had to watch him drink it herself. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be at ease.
Hongli, who was blowing bubbles inside the space, was full of disdain!
Jiang Yunhe was clearly showing favoritism—she trusted outsiders more than him. She fundamentally didn’t believe in Hongli! He was angry.
Luckily, Chu Peihan didn’t feel unwell. In fact, after drinking it, he felt much better—like something light was swirling in his lower abdomen, constantly flowing.
“This water… never mind, it’s nothing.”
“Mm, if it’s good, I’ll bring you more next time,” Jiang Yunhe said with a smile. She had been prepared to tell the truth if he asked.
But if he didn’t ask? Even better.
Chu Peihan raised an eyebrow, clearly already guessing something, but didn’t press.
Honestly, he could feel how kind Jiang Yunhe was to him.
“Let me walk you home.”
“Nope, I’m walking you home,” Jiang Yunhe said seriously. “You’re not well. From now on, just stay home and wait for me. Later on… oh right, I’m not married into your family yet.”
“I’m fine,” Chu Peihan’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, his heart stirred by her words. He couldn’t help imagining a future that seemed… really nice.
Jiang Yunhe wished she could marry him right now and take care of him.
But first, she wanted justice—she wasn’t going to let Jiang Dazhuang and Sun Meilin off the hook so easily. They hadn’t even started crying yet. What a waste it would be to stop now!
Seeing how stubborn he was, she couldn’t help but nag a little.
“Chu Peihan, you need to understand—it’s not about whether you’re fine or not. It’s because I’ll worry about you. Got it?”
“…Got it.” Chu Peihan’s gaze drifted. No one had ever said anything like that to him before. Jiang Yunhe’s words were full of genuine concern, and for him, they felt incredibly kind.
In front of him, Jiang Yunhe was soft and gentle—none of the previous arrogance and boldness. She was careful, even gently hooked his arm as she led him home.
Chu Peihan’s steps felt heavy. Honestly, he didn’t want to leave her side.
Right now, her suggestion seemed like a fantastic idea.
“When should we go pick a wedding date?”
“Soon, once I finish this matter,” Jiang Yunhe replied softly. The dirt had been flung, but she hadn’t gotten the money yet.
In her past life, they had sold her for a hefty price.
She had to plan for her future this time—and save up a nest egg for the life she and Chu Peihan would build together. Otherwise, wouldn’t that be a loss?
Chu Peihan pressed his lips together, anxious but respectful of her decision.
Jiang Yunhe remembered the way to Chu Peihan’s house well. In her past life, she had fantasized countless times about walking home with him.
Now, it was finally coming true.
Soon, they reached the entrance of his home.
Chu Peihan’s parents had passed early. Only his older brother still lived in the village, but to avoid being a burden, Chu Peihan stayed alone in the old family house.
It looked a bit desolate.
Jiang Yunhe looked at the little mud house before her and made up her mind—once she married in, she’d definitely renovate the place.
Living life was a big deal—it had to be done right.
“Go on in.”
“I’ll walk you back,” Chu Peihan said. Any excuse to stay with her longer was perfect. He was more than happy and truly delighted.
“So… you walk me back, and I walk you back again?” Jiang Yunhe raised an eyebrow, unable to hold back her laughter. She had no idea he had such a childish side.
The Chu Peihan she knew was cool and refined, mature and composed, always thinking ahead.
But this one? He looked a little green and inexperienced.
As if you could see right through him at a glance.
Chu Peihan blushed with embarrassment. He just didn’t think it looked right for a grown man to be walked around like that.
And honestly, he didn’t feel at ease letting her go home alone.
Jiang Yunhe gave him no chance to object, quickly pushing him inside. “Rest well. See you tomorrow! I promise to feed myself until I’m nice and chubby.”
Chu Peihan: “…”
He understood everything she said… but he really didn’t want to do what she asked.
Going home to an empty, cold bed was meaningless. He’d much rather go with her to the Jiang family home—stay by her side, and be there in case anything happened.
