Chapter 16: I’m Sorry, I Was Wrong
Jiang Yunhe saw him standing there like a mute gourd, unmoving, so she had no choice but to turn and run. Just like she said—if this went on any longer, she wouldn’t be going home tonight.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be with him—it was just the wrong timing.
Chu Peihan listened to the sound of her footsteps fading into the distance. A shadow of disappointment flashed across his eyes, and he finally let out a soft sigh.
Forget it.
Sooner or later, she would still be his.
After returning, Jiang Yunhe quietly snuck back into her room. Strangely, Jiang Dazhuang and Sun Meilin hadn’t made a peep—no sounds, no movement. She had no idea whether they were dead or alive.
But frankly, that didn’t matter.
If those two ended up beating each other to death, that would only benefit her.
After lying down and resting for a bit, she slipped into her dimension.
The moment she entered, she was greeted by Hongli’s “tail sweep” attack. With a swish, he darted deep into the spiritual spring and refused to talk to her.
Jiang Yunhe scratched her nose awkwardly, knowing she was at fault. She quickly crouched by the water and gently stirred the spring to coax him.
“Hongli, I didn’t mean it, seriously.”
“……”
“I mean, it was the first time letting someone else drink it. Of course I was going to be a bit worried!”
“Hah! You already drank it yourself!” Hongli shot out from the water like a missile. Every word she said struck a nerve, making him feel like he was going to explode.
Any more of this and he’d lose it.
Jiang Yunhe fell silent, her expression complicated. She understood where he was coming from—but Cheng Yanshu’s place in her heart was different.
If it had been anyone else, she wouldn’t have cared at all.
Honestly, she didn’t even see herself as human.
But now…
Hongli was utterly aggrieved. He had never experienced such a breach of trust. Seeing Jiang Yunhe remain silent only made him feel worse. He popped his head out and blew a bubble right at her.
The bubble popped in front of her face, soaking her. Finally, he felt better.
“Hmph! You can’t just not trust me. Or I’ll get mad! That bubble was proof, got it?”
“Got it, got it. So you’re not mad anymore, right?” Jiang Yunhe wasn’t angry—instead, she reached out to poke his little horns and said softly, “I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
Wrong is wrong. Nothing to argue about.
That did it—every bit of irritation disappeared.
Hongli declared that he had no principles. As long as she was happy, he was fine with anything. No complaints, no anger.
Jiang Yunhe continued to comfort him sweetly. Once she was sure he was fine, she started tidying up the vegetable garden. She harvested what needed harvesting—cabbage, radishes, cucumbers, beans. She even picked some fruit from the trees and set them aside.
Planting was always a pain.
But harvesting was always a joy.
She felt the same.
Anyway, seasons didn’t matter here—it was like she had a natural greenhouse that took care of itself.
No worries about food or clothes!
Later, she would bring some of the produce to Chu Peihan. She couldn’t let him go hungry.
Otherwise, she’d feel bad.
Hongli rolled his eyes so hard it almost hurt. Good grief—he really had a lovesick master now. One who was entirely irrational and had her whole heart set on a man. No one else could compare.
“Work on your merit cultivation! Don’t forget it!”
“I remember, I remember.” Jiang Yunhe quickly promised. It was important, and she wouldn’t let him down.
After all, she had just stabbed someone.
That could be serious—or not.
She had thought he’d be furious and never let it go. But in the end, he hadn’t even mentioned it. That kind of reaction… she wasn’t sure how to read it.
Hongli rolled his eyes again and disappeared underwater.
Why did he have to get a master like her?
Jiang Yunhe was completely unaware of his thoughts. After finishing up, she sat on a stone bench to rest. Honestly, the air in here even smelled sweet.
Plus, since her soul entered the space, no one outside would notice. She could truly relax.
The night passed peacefully.
Jiang Yunhe stretched. But she realized something: in this space, it was always daytime. No sun rising or setting. Maybe that was why the plants grew like crazy.
Sure enough, the ones she had picked yesterday had nearly regrown overnight!
Unbelievably fast.
Hongli didn’t show up again, who knew where he went. Jiang Yunhe thought about it, then split open a pomegranate and left it on the shore. When he got hungry, he could come out and eat it.
Then she exited the space.
Just as she stood up—BANG BANG BANG—a pounding at the door!
Jiang Yunhe’s brows lifted slightly. Oh? So much for peace and quiet. Looks like someone still wasn’t giving up and had come to cause trouble.
Sun Meilin didn’t even say a word—she just started hammering the door.
Thud!
Jiang Yunhe opened it, and Sun Meilin stumbled inside, almost falling flat. That made her even angrier. Her eyes burned with fury as she raised her hand to slap Jiang Yunhe across the face.
“Do it,” Jiang Yunhe said.
“You…” Sun Meilin hesitated. Her expression twisted—especially when she realized she was actually scared of this eighteen-year-old girl. How humiliating.
Damn it, this little brat must be possessed!
Jiang Yunhe scoffed and sat calmly on the kang (bed-stove), showing zero fear. She had come to realize her strength was not ordinary.
Might as well use Sun Meilin to test it further!
Weirdly enough, Sun Meilin didn’t dare make a move. She just glared coldly and said, “Give me the yarn ball.”
Jiang Yunhe: “Are you crazy? Or am I crazy?”
That was evidence. No way she was handing it over just like that.
Sun Meilin fumed but suppressed her anger. “It’s no use to you. I’ve agreed to everything you asked for.”
Jiang Yunhe: “Wang Tiejiang and the widow Liu were caught. Locked up in the ancestral hall all night. I heard they’re calling the police today. You didn’t know that, did you?”
Sun Meilin: “……”
Her whole body went stiff. Her blood ran cold, and she couldn’t say a single word.
She knew exactly how serious an adultery charge was. That’s why she had always kept everything under wraps.
Now it had all blown up. What now?
Jiang Yunhe watched her reactions with great interest. Her expression was amused—like throwing a punch through a mountain to hit a target on the other side. Very effective. This should keep her quiet for a while.
Although… that wouldn’t be as fun.
