Chapter 25: What Do You Want to Ask?
Jiang Yunhe was finally satisfied. Only then did she reach out and pick them up—one in each hand—quickly leaving this tiger’s den. Honestly, she was feeling nervous too.
If they really got bitten by a snake, it would be a huge problem.
After all, she was just speaking casually earlier. Who would’ve thought a snake would actually appear?!
But—
“When we get down, apologize to your big brother.”
“I…”
“Okay.” Chu Shuangsheng quickly agreed, afraid that her second brother, this blockhead, would say something inappropriate again. She raised her voice, “Sister Yunhe, don’t worry. My second brother might be impulsive, but he keeps his word.”
“You hear that?” Jiang Yunhe said cheerfully. “Don’t let Shengsheng down, or else…”
“Or else you’ll be mean to me!” Chu Shuangjiang rolled his eyes dramatically, feeling incredibly wronged. Was he really being bossed around by a woman like this?!
The more he thought about it, the more aggrieved he felt.
Chu Peihan patiently waited below. By the time they returned, he had already cleaned and plucked the feathers from a wild pheasant.
As soon as Jiang Yunhe came down, she set the two little ones on the ground and rushed over.
“Chu Peihan, what are you doing?”
“For you.” He handed her the bird. After thinking it over, he felt she needed to be nourished. Living with the Jiang family, she likely suffered a lot and never had anything decent to eat.
He wanted to take good care of her!
“I…” Jiang Yunhe was momentarily stunned. Only then did she realize why he had looked so disheveled earlier, with leaves stuck all over him.
Even now, he was in the same state.
This feeling…
“Chu Peihan, you really don’t need to worry about me.”
“Nonsense!” Chu Peihan furrowed his brows and changed the subject. “All taken care of. Are they behaving now? If they refuse to apologize…”
“Come here!” Jiang Yunhe called out. Just moments ago, they had been full of bluster, but now that the main figure was in front of them, they suddenly went mute.
Chu Shuangjiang and Chu Shuangsheng exchanged glances. Honestly, they had wanted to sneak off just a moment ago, not wanting to waste time here.
But before they could act, they got dragged back!
Chu Peihan remained calm, not giving them a pleasant look. Not that he thought they deserved one. They hadn’t seen each other since they were kids—how much affection could there be?
Besides, these two troublemakers had always made things hard for him.
Chu Shuangsheng cleared his throat and spoke first:
“Sorry, big brother. We shouldn’t have said those things about you.”
Chu Shuangjiang rolled his eyes and added,
“Yeah, we shouldn’t have said you were blind or called you the jinx…”
Jiang Yunhe’s expression turned ice cold.
“What, you don’t even know how to apologize? Chu Shuangjiang, are you asking for another round of what just happened?!”
Chu Shuangjiang:
“Sorry, I was wrong.”
That apology came lightning fast!
After saying it, he grabbed Chu Shuangsheng and bolted, not even giving Chu Peihan time to respond. Just thinking about the whole situation made them both angry and unwilling to accept it.
If Jiang Yunhe hadn’t meddled, they could’ve bullied Chu Peihan however they pleased!
Jiang Yunhe frowned as she watched them leave. Still not disciplined enough. Otherwise, they wouldn’t behave like this. These two needed a lot more tough love!
Just thinking about it made her mad.
Chu Peihan gently placed his hand on her head and rubbed it.
“Yunhe, thank you.”
Jiang Yunhe:
“What are you thanking me for? Husband and wife are one. If someone bullies you, they bully me. If someone insults you, they insult me. Chu Peihan, remember this—don’t let anyone push you around again.”
Even if they’re siblings.
It still wouldn’t be okay.
She would feel heartache.
Chu Peihan’s heart trembled. He had only been acting on a random impulse, but he never expected Jiang Yunhe would bring him such pure joy.
This feeling…
He’d never had it before.
Jiang Yunhe took his hand and softly said,
“Come on, let’s go inside. I’ll make you some soup. I brought some vegetables too. I’ll cook something delicious for you. How’s that sound?”
Chu Peihan:
“It’s for you.”
Jiang Yunhe:
“Yes, you gave it to me, so I decide what to do with it. Besides, with the way the Jiang family is, if I brought this chicken back, do you think they’d even let me smell it?”
Chu Peihan:
“…”
Fair enough!
After entering, Jiang Yunhe glanced around the courtyard and sighed softly. Though it was a bit rundown, it was extremely clean and clearly well cared for.
You could see the effort.
Chu Peihan actually grew a bit nervous. Even though they weren’t married or engaged yet, it still felt like… they were already together.
Like Jiang Yunhe was already the future mistress of this courtyard.
“Ahem, it’s a little shabby here. Once we get married, I’ll find a way to fix it up. Don’t, don’t dislike it.”
“I don’t.” Jiang Yunhe quickly got to work. She cleaned the chicken and sorted the vegetables she had brought, soaking them in separate basins.
Then she turned to look at him, slightly hesitant.
Chu Peihan noticed her gaze but didn’t tense up. Instead, he sat down, encouraging her:
“Go ahead. You said it yourself—husband and wife are one. No need to hide anything. Just ask.”
Jiang Yunhe bit her lip and asked softly,
“Chu Peihan, how did you catch that chicken?”
Chu Peihan chuckled:
“You want to ask about my eyes, right? Yunhe, you’re not the type to beat around the bush.”
Jiang Yunhe:
“…”
Was she that easy to read?
She just didn’t want to poke a sore spot.
Chu Peihan said gently:
“No need to worry about my feelings. I’m already blind, what more is there to fuss about? As for what others say, you can ignore them. But after you marry me, you’ll probably hear a lot of gossip…”
Jiang Yunhe:
“I don’t care! Chu Peihan, as long as you’re okay, I don’t care about anything else. Also, I’ll find a way to heal you. Don’t rush it—and don’t give up hope.”
Chu Peihan:
“Alright, I won’t lose hope! Actually… I’m not completely blind. If I really strain to look, I can vaguely see blurry shapes. But it’s like looking through a thick fog. Nothing’s clear. After a while, I got used to it and stopped trying.”
Jiang Yunhe:
“…”
Wait, seriously?
How did she not know that before?!
This was good news!
Jiang Yunhe suddenly slapped her thigh and grabbed him:
“Come on, we’re going to the hospital—let’s at least get it checked! No matter what—”
Chu Peihan gave a bitter smile:
“No need. I already went before I came back. There’s no hope. It is what it is.”
