Qu Wanwan propped her chin on her hand, blinking her eyes innocently. “Why should I stay away from you? I’m going to marry you.”
“Heh—”
Fu Ciyu let out a cold laugh. “Qu Wanwan, have you forgotten what you said before?”
“What did I say?” Her eyes were clear as crystal, without the slightest hint of panic.
Fu Ciyu’s voice dropped, cold and heavy:
“Fu Ciyu, I will never marry you. You’re a demon!”
“Fu Ciyu! Even if you get my body, you’ll never have my heart.”
Qu Wanwan’s expression changed instantly. She hurried to explain, “Fu Ciyu, those were just words spoken in anger. You can’t take them seriously!”
“Words in anger? And what about my wounds?”
Qu Wanwan’s gaze swept to the still-shocking scar on his body, and a wave of guilt surged in her heart.
“Fu Ciyu, I’m sorry, I—”
“Enough!”
Fury filled Fu Ciyu’s eyes and brows. “Tomorrow, I’ll hold a press conference to announce the cancellation of our engagement.”
“No! You can’t!” Qu Wanwan shot to her feet, shouting in panic.
“Qu Wanwan—”
“I’m setting you free.”
With those final words, Fu Ciyu stood up and walked away without looking back.
Qu Wanwan lowered her head, and in the next moment, the tears she had been holding back came flooding out. It was as if the final line of defense in her heart had collapsed all at once.
Seeing Fu Ciyu walk farther and farther away, she suddenly bolted after him.
By the time she made it outside, Fu Ciyu had already gotten into the car, which had begun to slowly pull away.
Qu Wanwan ran after it, calling out his name again and again, “Fu Ciyu—!”
“Fu Ciyu—!”
In the driver’s seat, Qingye saw the figure chasing them in the rearview mirror. Her silhouette was slender, stubborn, and heartbreaking.
“Master—” he began, his voice laced with hesitation.
“Qingye, this isn’t your concern,” Qingyun warned quietly.
Just then, the figure running behind the car stumbled and fell hard to the ground.
She was—
Squatting on the ground, she cried.
“Master, Miss Qu fell,” Qingye reported.
“Stop the car!” Fu Ciyu’s expression changed instantly.
Without waiting for another word, Qingye slammed the brakes and reversed the car.
Qingyun’s gaze darkened, her eyes full of gloom.
Qu Wanwan had tripped and fallen hard to the ground.
Lying there, watching the car grow smaller and smaller in the distance, her heart twisted with pain.
The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt. Qu Wanwan dropped to her knees, clutching her chest with both hands as if trying to hold herself together.
All the suppressed emotions she had bottled up since her rebirth exploded in that moment.
Tears streamed down her flawless face, one after another, soaking her cheeks.
She could no longer hold it in and began sobbing uncontrollably—
“Wuwu—”
“Fu Ciyu—”
The man looked down at the tear-streaked girl before him, a wave of ache rising in his chest.
He spoke in a low voice, “Why are you crying?”
The moment Qu Wanwan heard that familiar voice, she immediately looked up.
Through her tear-filled eyes, she saw the man standing there.
Her face was covered in tears, and the sheer grievance in her expression made Fu Ciyu instinctively reach out, his slender fingers gently brushing away the tears at the corner of her eyes.
“Hmm? What are you crying for?”
She lifted the hem of her dress, choking on her sobs. “It hurts—”
Her fair leg was now badly bruised and discolored.
Seeing this, Fu Ciyu let out a helpless sigh. He bent down and carefully scooped her into his arms.
Qu Wanwan wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face against his chest.
Listening to the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat, she felt a rare sense of peace.
After placing her in the car, Fu Ciyu turned to Qingye and instructed, “Drive. To the hospital.”
“Yes, Master.”
Noticing there were others in the car, Qu Wanwan—tears still glistening at the corners of her eyes—gave an awkward little wave.
“Hi—”
Qingye looked at her adorably embarrassed expression and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Miss Qu.”
Qingyun was generally more proper in front of Fu Ciyu, and greeted politely, “Miss Qu.”
“Qingye, are you laughing at me?”
“No! Absolutely not!” He wouldn’t dare joke around—who would?
At the Nanshan Café, Shen Man and Lu Yu had been waiting until evening, yet there was still no sign of Qu Wanwan.
Lu Yu glared at Shen Man in frustration. “Didn’t you say she’d be back? It’s been all afternoon—where is she?”
Shen Man was just as anxious. “Look, she promised me she would come.”
She handed her phone to Lu Yu.
Lu Yu glanced at it, but the more he looked, the more it seemed like they had been played by that woman, Qu Wanwan.
“Call her.”
Shen Man dialed Qu Wanwan’s number.
As soon as her phone rang, the car fell into silence.
Qu Wanwan glanced at the man beside her. Seeing that he had his eyes closed and appeared to be resting, she declined the call.
But the phone rang again, the caller clearly unwilling to give up. Just as she was about to reject the call again, she heard the man beside her say, “Answer it.”
Only then did Qu Wanwan press the button to pick up.
“What is it?”
“Wanwan, where are you? Why didn’t you come?”
Qu Wanwan sneered inwardly, but her voice remained calm. “Oh, I’m with my boyfriend.”
The man who had been resting with his eyes closed suddenly opened them.
Boyfriend? Was she talking about him?
“Boyfriend? Wanwan, you have a boyfriend again? Then what about Lu Yu?”
As expected, the moment those words were spoken, Qu Wanwan could feel the entire atmosphere inside the car grow heavier.
She quickly added, “I have a boyfriend—what the hell does it have to do with him? I don’t care who he is, he has nothing to do with me!”
With that, she ended the call before the person on the other end could say another word.
Qu Wanwan immediately looked at the man beside her and explained, “Don’t listen to her nonsense. She said that on purpose.”
“Boyfriend?” The man’s deep voice echoed through the car.
Qu Wanwan nodded repeatedly. “Aren’t you?”
The man didn’t respond. He simply gave her a long, penetrating look.
On the other end, Shen Man was fuming. “She actually hung up on me again!”
“What did she say?” Lu Yu frowned.
Shen Man’s expression darkened. “She said she’s with her boyfriend.”
“Boyfriend? Fu Ciyu?”
“No idea. Probably not. She hates Fu Ciyu so much—there’s no way it’s him. Maybe she said that on purpose?”
“Keep a close eye on her these next few days. If anything happens, tell me immediately.”
“Mm.”
“Shen Man, remember—if you can’t endure the small things, you’ll ruin the bigger plan.”
The dazzling Maybach soon arrived at Gu Medical University Hospital.
Fu Ciyu carried Qu Wanwan the entire way, drawing the attention of everyone they passed.
“Isn’t that Master Fu from the Fu family?”
“And the woman in his arms?”
“Isn’t that the young lady of the Qu family?”
“Wasn’t there talk that Miss Qu ran away from the wedding? Why are they together again?”
“Just rumors. Does she look like someone who ran away?”
“Well… no, not really.”
Listening to the murmurs around her, Qu Wanwan lifted her head and met the ink-dark eyes staring down at her.
“Fu Ciyu—”
Fu Ciyu lowered his head to glance at her, his brows tightly furrowed. “Are you feeling unwell?”
Qu Wanwan shook her head abruptly. “No.”
“What did you want to say?”
“Fu Ciyu, whether it was yesterday or today, everything I said was true. Please, believe me.”
Hearing that, Fu Ciyu’s eyes remained calm and emotionless, as if he no longer held any expectations.
“Ciyu, you finally came to your senses and decided to replace her. That little liar Qu Wanwan is going to regret it.”
Gu Yichen looked at the woman in Fu Ciyu’s arms. He had assumed it definitely wouldn’t be Qu Wanwan.
But—
“Gu Yichen, who are you talking about? Who got replaced?”
Qu Wanwan turned her head sharply and shot him a cold glare.
“What the hell! Qu Wanwan, why is it you?!”
