Chapter 114: Squatting Horse Stance, Raising the Hand to Start
Everyone moved inside the house.
General He nodded and said to the group of sisters-in-law gathered together, “You all can disperse. If there’s anything to take care of at home, go check on it. Don’t just stay here.”
With General He’s words, the sisters-in-law all nodded and responded in agreement, but out of politeness, they first watched General He walk away before they left.
Madam He, while holding Chu Yue’s hand, didn’t forget about He Meijiao and quickly called out to her, waving, “Meijiao, come quickly. Let’s go visit Captain Lu’s home together.”
At this moment, He Meijiao was still standing not far away, motionless.
She looked at Madam He, then glanced at Chu Yue. To He Meijiao, the faint smile on Chu Yue’s face seemed like an arrogant, mocking sneer.
They just met for the first time, yet Chu Yue had already won the favor of both General He and Madam He. She must be so pleased!
Now, she was just waiting to see Chu Yue’s downfall.
Hmph!
It was just a military housing compound. She had seen it before and wasn’t interested at all.
He Meijiao was not interested in Madam He’s invitation. Stiffening her neck, she refused, “Auntie He, I still need to report back to the unit. I don’t want some people to just loaf around at home with nothing to do. I’m leaving now.”
After saying this, she proudly turned her head and walked away.
Wang Xiulan, who was somewhat close to He Meijiao, watched this unfold. Before she could understand what was going on, she asked confusedly, “What’s going on all of a sudden? Why did He Meijiao get mad for no reason? And now she’s just leaving like that?”
“You talk too much. Better shut up,” another sister-in-law cut her off.
Wang Xiulan’s intelligence was clearly lacking—she couldn’t see the tension between He Meijiao and Chu Yue. Could the others not see it either?
Some things, the sisters-in-law, as experienced women, all understood very well.
Madam He also understood but didn’t point it out in front of Chu Yue.
She patted Chu Yue’s hand and said, “Meijiao is just like that; she’s spoiled by her grandparents. Don’t take it to heart.”
General He noticed this and told the guard following closely beside him, “Xiao He, go with Meijiao and escort her to the medical team.”
“Yes, General He!”
The guard Xiao He saluted and immediately hurried after He Meijiao’s retreating back, and the two soon exited the military housing compound.
As the crowd dispersed, the sisters-in-law gradually started to head home one by one.
While things here were just wrapping up, shouting was heard from the other side.
“Something’s going on—Wang Chunling and Li Zhiguo are arguing at home, almost coming to blows!”
The new-year’s first day liveliness was just getting started.
…
General He walked proudly at the front. After entering the house, he first took a look around the surroundings, then examined the neatly arranged cabinets, tea table, and desks.
He turned to Lu Zhanlin and asked, “Is this the house the unit assigned to you?”
“The unit assigned the house, but it was empty. Inside and out, it’s all been decorated by my wife,” Lu Zhanlin said, a smile tugging at the corner of his eyes.
Listening to him say “my wife” over and over, General He felt a bit sour.
It was just because he recently got married, but it seemed like he wanted the whole world to know.
General He had come up the ranks himself, starting as a young squad leader. When he married Madam He, he was just as eager to shout it from the rooftops, wanting everyone to hear. So he completely understood Lu Zhanlin’s feelings at this moment.
Moreover, the inside and outside of the house were all perfectly arranged by Chu Yue — cozy and tidy. No wonder Lu Zhanlin was so proud to have such a good wife.
After entering the house,
Chu Yue immediately took out tea leaves and a kettle to brew tea for Commander He and Madam He. Lu Zhanlin walked over beside Chu Yue and took the cup she had just picked up.
Lowering his voice, Lu Zhanlin said, “I’ll handle these matters. You’re all dirty; staying like this can’t be comfortable. Go wash up quickly. I’ll entertain Commander He and Madam He; they’ll understand.”
He hadn’t forgotten that Chu Yue used to want to shower almost every day — she had a bit of a cleanliness obsession.
She had already endured a lot last night.
Chu Yue indeed felt uncomfortable. Besides, if she kept talking to Madam He like this for too long, Madam He would also get tired. Since Lu Zhanlin said so, she agreed, “Then I’ll leave this to you. I’ll go wash up first, and then it’ll be your turn.”
So, Chu Yue left first, leaving Lu Zhanlin to face the interrogation from Commander He and Madam He. They talked about their engagement gifts and recounted Chu Yue’s heroic deed last night.
She actually delivered a calf!
Madam He had never heard of such a thing and was stunned. “Are you saying A Yue put her entire arm into the cow’s womb and then, like a tug-of-war, pulled the calf out?”
“Yes, it was thanks to her actions that the cow went from danger to safety and finally gave birth to the calf. That’s why we both smell so bad.”
Lu Zhanlin’s words were simple but filled with pride in Chu Yue.
After hearing this, Madam He looked at Commander He in disbelief, and Commander He’s eyes mirrored her astonishment.
“This is even more shocking than catching a thief on the street!”
Commander He frowned and questioned, “She’s just a young girl, with thin arms and legs. Could she really pull a calf out? Does she have that much strength?”
“Yes! Mom is very strong!”
“Yes! I saw it with my own eyes.”
Lu Yuanbao and Lu Zhanlin spoke at the same time — one hurriedly proving Chu Yue’s strength, the other calmly explaining it. The father and son shared the same spirit in defending Chu Yue.
Watching this, Commander He wasn’t even concerned about whether the story was true or not. Just the reactions of these two made it entertaining enough.
Commander He especially liked Lu Yuanbao and teased him, “You say she’s very strong. Is there any proof? Why is she so strong?”
“Of course! Mom can lift me up with just one hand.” Lu Yuanbao had called “Mom” so many times that it became a habit. He added, “Mom also taught me a lot. She said as long as I keep practicing every day, I can grow very tall, and my strength will become very big.”
Commander He continued, laughing, “Oh really? What do you practice?”
The adult’s question was casual, just to chat with the child, but Lu Yuanbao answered seriously from start to finish.
He especially paid attention to everything about Chu Yue.
After being asked, Lu Yuanbao carefully looked around and said seriously, “This place is too small, I can’t show you properly. Grandpa He, let’s go to the yard outside. I’ll show you.”
Commander He naturally agreed to Lu Yuanbao’s small request, and the group went outside.
Lu Yuanbao quickly stood at the front of everyone, the same place where he exercises every morning. Then…
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Opened his eyes, letting the breath sink into his dantian (energy center).
Lowered into a horse stance, raised his hands to begin.
The first movement of Baduanjin (Eight Pieces of Brocade): “Shake Head and Wag Tail to Eliminate Heart Fire.”
Lu Yuanbao began to move fluidly like flowing clouds and water…
