Chapter 10: Seed Players

In the hall outside the passage, dozens of individuals dressed in black security uniforms had gathered.

Anya and Qin Hao were among them.

These individuals were all captains and senior members of the Scavengers in Qianjiang City. They had assembled to await the completion of the entry assessment by newcomers, intending to select their desired team members from the pool.

A man with a square face and head approached Qin Hao, smiling.

“Qin Hao, not bad, you’ve got a top seed token in your hands.”

“Can’t fight, can’t capture, can’t upgrade, always at the bottom, yet you managed to get a top seed token. Tsk tsk, look at how crafty this person’s schemes are,” the man quipped sarcastically to his companion.

Anya glared at the man, furious. “Zhu Jun, what do you mean by this? If it weren’t for our team being short-handed, who said you could stand here and criticize? If you’re not happy, let’s settle this with a little sparring!”

Qin Hao quickly grabbed Anya and shook his head, signaling her to stop.

“Zhu Jun, I’m here to select team members, not to argue with you,” Qin Hao remarked before taking a puff of his cigarette and blowing smoke in Zhu Jun’s direction. He then used the opportunity to lead Anya away from the individual.

Behind them, they heard Zhu Jun coughing and angrily exclaiming, “Smoking is prohibited in public places, Qin Hao. You’re going to get lung cancer sooner or later!”

In a corner, Anya expressed her displeasure, “Zhu Jun is just jealous!”

Qin Hao calmly replied, “That guy probably heard about Su Qianqian and got agitated.” He continued, “He’s not very bright. From what I’ve heard, Su Qianqian might not even need a top seed token to choose a team. At the very least, she’ll be the one picking the team!”

Upon hearing about such a remarkable figure in the assessment, Anya immediately forgot about the incident with Zhu Jun and asked in amazement, “Is she really that exceptional? No wonder we couldn’t access her data! Old Qin, do you know anything else?”

Qin Hao simply shook his head. “I’ve only heard some rumors from the Demon Suppression Alliance. They were eager to recruit her, but for some reason, Su Qianqian chose to join the Scavengers.”

“The Demon Suppression Alliance was competing to recruit her?!” Anya was even more astonished now.

The Demon Suppression Alliance recruited only the best of the best – special forces, national athletes, martial arts experts. Even after the assessment, not everyone could join. Anyone rejected by them would be highly sought after by other organizations!

For the Demon Suppression Alliance to actively pursue someone indicated that Su Qianqian was undoubtedly remarkable.

Taking a puff of his cigarette, Qin Hao remained composed and said, “Let’s not dwell on Su Qianqian. I haven’t been able to find any information about that girl’s background. Whether she stays in the Scavengers Brigade is another matter.”

“Let’s focus on these three individuals instead.” With that, Qin Hao took out a piece of paper from his pocket.

The paper detailed the information of three individuals.

Liu Qi, 24 years old, male, height 1.79 meters, weight 72 kilograms, Strength 123, Speed 116, Endurance 121.

Huang Jintao, 25 years old, male, height 1.81 meters, weight 74 kilograms, Strength 121, Speed 120, Endurance 124.

Shen Yanhong, 23 years old, female, height 1.72 meters, weight 66 kilograms, Strength 111, Speed 114, Endurance 133.

Observing the data of these three individuals, Anya nodded in admiration, “They all have excellent attributes. They’re averaging close to 120 in each category. Shen Yanhong even surpasses 130 in one area, and impressively, the other two are above 110 as well!”

With such impressive data, they were definitely promising candidates, highly sought after if they made it through alive.

Apart from these three individuals, the list also ranked the remaining 41 participants.

Qianjiang City has a total of fifteen teams. After the first round of selections, the second round requires an on-site draw to determine the selection order.

During that time, they would simply filter through the list in sequence.

It seemed that Qin Hao had been busy these days, organizing all the new recruits’ information neatly.

“I’ve been doing a lot of good deeds lately, so I’m sure my luck will be good in the second round draw,” Qin Hao said seriously while smoking.

Anya furrowed her brows, “What good deeds have you been doing?”

Qin Hao looked at Anya with great surprise, “Haven’t you noticed?”

“Noticed what?”

“I’ve been smoking less these past two months!”

Anya pondered for a while, “Qin Hao, how does smoking less relate to doing good deeds?”

Qin Hao wore a look that implied the answer was obvious and said, “How much secondhand smoke have I reduced for you guys?! I’ve decreased the emission of secondhand smoke!”

Anya looked utterly disheartened. What on earth was the emission of secondhand smoke!

When it came to her captain, Qin Hao was undoubtedly the person she admired the most. Calm, decisive, brave, resilient, and exceptionally skilled—he was practically the ideal role model.

However, there were two aspects that were particularly exasperating.

The first was his tendency to sometimes live in his own world, which could be quite perplexing.

The second was Qin Hao’s chronic case of being directionally challenged. Before the era of automated driving, whenever he drove, he could end up taking a group of people to a neighboring province instead of on patrol.

Anya couldn’t be bothered with Qin Hao’s emission of secondhand smoke issue and continued to review the list.

Upon reaching the end, Anya’s eyes widened at the data listed at the bottom.

This person’s data was strikingly different!

Yang Fan, 20 years old, male, height 1.66 meters, weight 42 kilograms. Strength 45, Speed 43, Endurance 31.

An average score of 100 indicates normalcy, and even the least capable individuals here might only have slightly lower scores in certain areas compared to the average person.

Yet, Yang Fan’s fundamental data in each category was significantly lower than the lowest score among others in any single category!

Especially in terms of endurance, a mere three months of recovery training could not make up for the effects of a ten-year paralysis; he still struggled with prolonged high-intensity physical activities.

In theory, Anya should have focused her attention on the seed players, but she found herself unable to look away from someone else.

At some point, she couldn’t forget the determination in that madman’s eyes when he made his decision.

His eyes held no impurities, crystal clear, and no matter how many times others asked, his answer always remained the same.

“I have no regrets!”

Anya lifted her head and glanced at Qin Hao. The captain’s demeanor was always composed, his eyes sharp, appearing rational to the point of seeming devoid of emotion.

Almost involuntarily, Anya spoke up.

“If Yang Fan passes the assessment, can we select him in the second round?” Anya asked abruptly.

Qin Hao turned his head, furrowing his brows in astonishment, looking utterly puzzled.

However, upon meeting Anya’s gaze, he regained his composure, took a puff of his cigarette, and calmly replied, “Firstly, he’s unlikely to make it out alive. Secondly, not only would I not choose him, but none of the other team captains would either.”

After speaking, Qin Hao glanced in the direction of the passage and softly remarked, “The Nexus Gate should have disappeared by now. The real assessment has begun.”
