Carrying the Mountain Out Chapter 11

Chapter 11 I Want to Live with Him!

Lin Yangfeng sucked in a cold breath. What the hell? A dog nose? That’s perverted!

Instinctively, he furrowed his brows and blurted out, “Alright, no matter how you found me, I’m not eating this. Get lost, and don’t bring any more food in the future. The thank-you gift for you is still being prepared—I’ll have someone send it over later.”

Yan Zhen pouted and fell silent.

The moment Lin Yangfeng finished speaking, he felt a pang of regret, though he wasn’t sure why. Uncomfortable, he glanced at Yan Zhen’s face—only to jerk his wheelchair back a full meter in shock.

—Holy shit!

The beautiful young man stood opposite him, holding the food container and gazing at him quietly. His eyes, usually brimming with laughter, now shimmered with unshed tears, his eyelids and nose tinged red—the very picture of pitiful misery.

Lin Yangfeng was at a loss. Cry? Cry my ass!

“Uh… I’m hungry,” he forced out through gritted teeth.

The next second, the teary-eyed beauty burst into a radiant smile, his fair skin glowing and his dark eyes sparkling with joy—utterly breathtaking.

Yan Zhen was genuinely happy. Dan Zai was so good! Delighted, he swiftly opened the food container, releasing a rich aroma that instantly filled the courtyard. In the blink of an eye, he had unpacked all ten layers of the container, arranging the dishes neatly on the small table nearby—a lavish spread.

“Gurgle.”

Lin Yangfeng clutched his stomach, mortified.

Though yesterday’s meal had barely dented the hunger accumulated over millennia, he was indeed starving—but he had long grown accustomed to it. He’d only spoken up to stop the other from crying. Now, though… his hunger was embarrassingly obvious.

Yan Zhen heard it and was heartbroken. Whirling around, he urged eagerly, “Come eat, quick!”

Lin Yangfeng’s throat bobbed.

Seeing him hesitate, Yan Zhen blinked. Was Dan Zai shy? Suddenly enlightened, he strode toward Lin Yangfeng—now was the perfect time to pamper him!

Lin Yangfeng: “…”

Despite having met only once, he inexplicably knew what this freak—pretty or not, still a freak—was about to do. To avoid being scooped up again, he maneuvered his wheelchair to the table in a flash.

On impulse, Lin Yangfeng glanced back at Yan Zhen.

The disappointment on Yan Zhen’s face was unmistakable.

Lin Yangfeng: “…”

Whatever. He’d keep his mouth shut and just eat.

Yan Zhen sat across from Lin Yangfeng, chin propped on his hands, watching him with a beaming smile.

Under that scorching gaze, Lin Yangfeng buried himself in the food.

After so long without, every bite was like rain after drought. Vast amounts of Spiritual Energy flooded his body, replenishing his depleted strength and fortifying his muscles.

Five minutes later, every dish was wiped clean.

Yan Zhen asked softly, “Are you full?”

Meeting those earnest eyes, Lin Yangfeng swallowed the words “not even close” and nodded.

Yan Zhen cheered. “I’ll bring you dinner tonight too!”

Lin Yangfeng opened his mouth to refuse—only for Yan Zhen’s eyes to well up again…

“Fine. Bring it if you want.”

To this day, Lin Yangfeng still couldn’t figure out why this guy he’d just met was so hell-bent on doting on him—rejections didn’t work, scolding didn’t work, even losing his temper didn’t work.

Damn it!

Lin Yangfeng scratched his head irritably. “I’m going in to sleep.”

Yan Zhen was worried. “It’s not good for your health right after eating.”

Lin Yangfeng: “Then what do you want to do?”

Yan Zhen blinked his eyes. “How about I sing for you?”

Lin Yangfeng: “…”

Three minutes later.

The small courtyard was surrounded by trees, their dense foliage blocking the sky, making the light dim.

Under one of the trees, a visibly agitated young man sat in a wheelchair, his eyes closed and eyebrows twitching.

On a large rock beside him, a fair-skinned beauty tilted his head to look at him, singing cheerfully, his voice echoing throughout the courtyard.

“Little darling, sleep tight, the night has fallen…”

“Roses by your bedside…”

Lin Yangfeng endured, endured, endured.

What the hell kind of song is this? Damn “little darling”!

And then, he fell asleep.

Yan Zhen smiled faintly.

Dan Zai was so easy to soothe.

·

From the day he “soothed” Lin Yangfeng, Yan Zhen began delivering meals to him three times a day. At first, Yan Zhen was always worried that the food he prepared wouldn’t be to his liking, but as he kept delivering, he discovered that Dan Zai wasn’t picky at all!

However, Yan Zhen’s happiness lasted only a short while before he was overwhelmed by a pang of sadness.

Only children who were spoiled and never lacked food would be picky. His Dan Zai had suffered… As a result, the look in his eyes when he gazed at Lin Yangfeng grew gentler by the day.

Another half a month passed. Yan Zhen appeared in the courtyard as usual, bringing perfectly cooked meals. But this time, after silently finishing all the food, Lin Yangfeng put down his chopsticks and looked at Yan Zhen with a serious expression.

Yan Zhen suddenly felt nervous: Dan Zai, Dan Zai has something to say to me?

Lin Yangfeng said, “Starting tomorrow, don’t come anymore.”

Yan Zhen’s eyes immediately welled up with tears.

Lin Yangfeng quickly interrupted, “Don’t cry! Let me finish first.”

The tears in Yan Zhen’s eyes swirled but didn’t fall. He sniffled, “Go on.”

Lin Yangfeng took a deep breath. “I’m going to school.”

Yan Zhen was stunned. “You’re so old…”

He remembered that only short-lived humans needed to go to school. Why was Dan Zai going?

Lin Yangfeng’s face twitched, but he suppressed his irritation and retorted, “I’m only twenty. Why can’t I go to school?”

Yan Zhen was speechless.

Dan Zai seemed to have learned to be mischievous. He was clearly at least thousands of years old.

But after all, Dan Zai was the precious treasure in his heart, the only one he had in all these years. So between “educating Dan Zai for lying” and “indulging Dan Zai without exposing him,” Yan Zhen hesitated for less than a second before choosing the latter—joking aside, Dan Zai had finally started warming up to him. Why would he pick the first option and make things difficult for Dan Zai?

Yan Zhen pretended to understand. “Oh, I see.”

Lin Yangfeng’s mouth twitched. That expression was way too fake.

Yan Zhen immediately brightened up again. “Where are you going to school? I’ll bring you meals!”

Lin Yangfeng: “That would be too conspicuous.”

Yan Zhen: “Oh.”

If this had been earlier, he would have gone ahead and delivered the meals anyway. But now, if he did that, Dan Zai might dislike him. Still, he couldn’t let Dan Zai go hungry… He needed to find a perfect solution!

Lin Yangfeng stared at him for a while, sensing that this guy might be up to something. But for now, he couldn’t figure out what, so he had to trust him temporarily.

“Don’t mess around,” he warned seriously, his sharp gaze piercing. Though not truly angry, his handsome face still carried a trace of ferocity.

Yan Zhen smiled, his eyes curving into crescents. “I won’t.”

Lin Yangfeng: “…”

For some reason, it didn’t seem very convincing.

·

Early in the morning, Yan Zhen stepped out of his room, stretching lazily with a bright smile on his face.

After these days of interaction and much “subtle probing,” he had finally concluded that his Dan Zai wasn’t pretending to have amnesia like in those TV dramas—he really had lost his memory. Sigh, just thinking about it made him sad. Every time he used to touch the stone egg, it would bounce around happily, clearly fond of him! And now it claimed not to know him at all…

After wallowing in sadness for a brief moment, Yan Zhen quickly cheered up.

No matter. If Dan Zai didn’t remember now, so be it. He would coax him slowly, and sooner or later, Dan Zai would recall everything.

Besides, Dan Zai probably still subconsciously resented him. Taking advantage of his amnesia, Yan Zhen could feed him every day and rebuild their bond. By the time Dan Zai regained his memories, he surely wouldn’t stay mad!

Yes, that’s the plan!

With this in mind, Yan Zhen skipped cooking and instead walked out the door, heading in a different direction—not toward Lin Yangfeng’s courtyard.

With the same unhurried pace, covering a street in two or three minutes, Yan Zhen stopped before an ancient-looking vermilion gate adorned with a large plaque inscribed with four bold, striking characters.

Yan Zhen murmured, “Nan… Hu… Da… Xue.”

So this was where human youngsters studied? Dan Zai was here too—why did he have to mingle with human kids? Not that it mattered. The real issue was, Dan Zai had forbidden him from delivering meals here, but he didn’t want Dan Zai to go hungry. What should he do?

Yan Zhen tilted his head in thought, then turned back.

·

Zhou Yimin scratched his ear, stunned. “Grandmaster Yan, you mean… you want to enroll in school? And share a dorm with… with that guy?”

Summoned by a phone call, he had arrived in high spirits, only to be completely baffled by the Grandmaster’s request.

Yan Zhen replied softly, “Yes, I want to room with him. Help me out, won’t you?”

Zhou Yimin swallowed hard.

“I… I’ll try?”
