Chapter 21: My Biological Parents from Kyoto Appear
“Why aren’t you wearing shoes? You can’t keep going barefoot; it’s easy to get sick.”
Su Luoluo stared at Xiao Lei’s bare feet and spoke.
Seeing that she didn’t seem to intend to hit him, Xiao Lei breathed a sigh of relief and put on his shoes.
Su Luoluo took Niuniu out to brush their teeth and wash their faces. Xiao Lei and Xiaofan’s toothbrushes and cups were wet, indicating that the two older children had already brushed their teeth.
After a simple breakfast, Su Luoluo wanted to secretly check on her mother-in-law’s illness.
She unintentionally overheard Zhu Yanhua and her mother-in-law talking.
To treat her mother-in-law’s illness, the family owed the clinic over three thousand yuan.
Su Luoluo’s mood instantly soured.
This meant that the money she had just earned would have to be spent again.
So difficult.
Too difficult.
Su Luoluo sat in the yard on a small stool, frowning.
Children don’t understand the worries of adults.
Niuniu chased after a chicken, trying to force-feed it a leaf.
Jingjing squatted in the vegetable patch, searching for worms to feed the chickens and ducklings.
Xiao Lei and Xiaofan had already gone to weed their family’s fields.
After Zhu Yanhua took Jingjing to work in the fields,
Su Luoluo rallied herself, picked up her backpack and a broken sickle, and went into the mountains.
Obviously, she wasn’t always so lucky. There was no prey in the traps, and she didn’t find any precious herbs, only some common ones.
Su Luoluo had just arrived at the big tree where she waited for the ox cart when she saw Village Chief Niu Dongpeng running breathlessly towards her, his face flushed red, looking very anxious.
Su Luoluo found a stone to sit on, watching the village chief, wondering what was wrong.
Village Chief Niu Dongpeng ran straight to Su Luoluo.
“…” Su Luoluo.
Completely bewildered, she didn’t understand why the village chief suddenly sought her out.
“Xiao Luo, someone from Kyoto has come looking for you. They want you to go to Piaoxiang Restaurant to meet them.”
Niu Dongpeng gave Su Luoluo a smile.
Huh?
Su Luoluo was completely confused. Nobles from Kyoto? Looking for her?
She lived in this poor mountain village; when did she have any connection with Kyoto…?
Wait.
The old man she saved before seemed to be from Kyoto.
But didn’t they just leave a short time ago? Why are they back? This is unusual.
“Just give them your name, and the waiter will take you to them.”
Niu Dongpeng continued.
“Oh.”
Su Luoluo replied calmly.
Seeing Su Luoluo so calm, Niu Dongpeng’s expression was somewhat complex. He couldn’t help but say, “Xiao Luo, your good days are ahead.”
Uh…
This sentence completely baffled Su Luoluo.
Just as the village chief left, the ox cart driver arrived.
Su Luoluo took the ox cart to town and went straight to Piaoxiang Restaurant.
“My name is Su Luoluo.”
Su Luoluo gave her name when the waiter approached.
“Follow me.”
The waiter glanced at Su Luoluo and walked inside.
Su Zhenhai had just returned from the restroom and saw Su Luoluo enter the restaurant. He was shocked. Where did Su Luoluo get the money to eat at a restaurant?
This little vixen had money and hid it without bringing it home.
Su Zhenhai was furious and was about to chase after her to see what was going on when his coworker from the kitchen stopped him. “Su Zhenhai, where are you going to slack off again? The kitchen is so busy, come and help.”
Su Zhenhai had no choice but to follow his coworker back to the kitchen.
In the private room.
A woman dressed in the latest fashion, with permed hair, showed few signs of aging despite being middle-aged. She was well-maintained.
“What kind of person could this poor and remote place raise?”
She frowned, her gaze sweeping around the room with obvious disdain.
A middle-aged man beside her had a stern expression, even in his age, his youthful handsomeness could still be seen.
“Even if we mistakenly switched babies, what does it matter? She’s lived in this place, who knows how she’s turned out. I won’t recognize just any stray cat or dog. We raised Xiaoyan so well, even without blood ties, in my heart, Xiaoyan is my daughter.”
Seeing the restrained forbearance in her husband’s brows, Zhuang Huiyi mumbled.
“Alright, no matter what, she’s still your biological daughter. Let’s see first.”
Du Wanhui frowned.
As soon as he finished speaking,
Knock knock—
A knock came from the door.
“Come in.”
Du Wanhui warned Zhuang Huiyi with a glance to stop her from talking nonsense.
Zhuang Huiyi’s face wasn’t good.
The private room door opened.
Su Luoluo, carrying a backpack, walked in.
Zhuang Huiyi’s eyebrows jumped when she saw Su Luoluo’s face.
The face had a large red birthmark, covered in red rashes and blisters, exceptionally ugly.
“You are Su Luoluo?”
Zhuang Huiyi’s eyes widened, and her voice rose.
She couldn’t believe that her daughter would be so ugly, like a demon.
Du Wanhui saw Su Luoluo’s face, his brows furrowed, clearly disliking this ugly biological daughter.
“I’m Su Luoluo. What do you want?”
Su Luoluo looked at the two people in the room. Unfamiliar faces, dressed in fine clothes, out of place in this backward and noisy small county town.
She thought it was the Mu family looking for her, but it wasn’t.
She searched her memory and confirmed that the original owner didn’t know these two people.
Why would strangers travel all the way from Kyoto to this remote mountain village to find her?
But why did this middle-aged woman look at her with such a critical eye?
Zhuang Huiyi secretly tugged at Du Wanhui’s hand.
She had already disliked her biological daughter raised in the mountain village. Now, seeing Su Luoluo’s appearance, she wanted to deny her even more.
What was she wearing? Dingy clothes, and carrying a backpack filled with miscellaneous herbs.
This was challenging Zhuang Huiyi’s patience.
Recognizing such an ugly, uncouth, and unpresentable daughter would only invite ridicule from her social circles.
“Let’s eat first.”
After some hesitation, Du Wanhui shook off Zhuang Huiyi’s hand and spoke in an unfathomable tone.
Su Luoluo was hungry and didn’t stand on ceremony. She went over, put down her backpack, pulled out a chair, and sat down unceremoniously.
Zhuang Huiyi saw that she lacked any table manners, her eyebrows jumped again, her disdain almost tangible.
Du Wanhui called the waiter and ordered six dishes.
The restaurant served the food quickly.
Du Wanhui and Zhuang Huiyi only symbolically used their chopsticks, barely eating anything.
They looked down on the food here.
Only Su Luoluo ate heartily.
Du Wanhui poured a cup of tea, sipping while observing Su Luoluo. He frowned deeply, unexpectedly finding his biological daughter’s appearance so…unspeakable.
Zhuang Huiyi kept shaking her head at Du Wanhui. This crude daughter wasn’t a match for Xiaoyan; she didn’t want to take such a daughter home to be laughed at.
“Why didn’t you go to university?”
Du Wanhui asked.
Su Luoluo almost choked, as if someone in her time asked her why she didn’t go to Tsinghua or Peking University.
Her mouth twitched. “My family didn’t have money, so I stopped schooling after elementary school.”
The Yang family providing the original owner with food was already good enough, let alone dreaming of going to school.
She only had an elementary school education, so she was uneducated.
Zhuang Huiyi wanted to deny this daughter even more.
Du Wanhui paused his tea-drinking, his brow furrowed deeper.
“I am your father.”
After much deliberation, he decided to take her back. After all, the Du family wouldn’t let her starve.
“Clatter” Su Luoluo’s chopsticks fell.
