Chapter 12: A Juicy Scandal!
【@Boss Lady, let me tell you—don’t try scaring me with that “you’re fired” nonsense.
Do you even know what position you really hold? Should I go ahead and expose you?
I, Chen Xiao, am a veteran of the headquarters’ property department. You really think I don’t know who the so-called boss lady is?
Always flaunting the title of boss or boss’s wife.
Weren’t you just the woman who gave birth to the boss’s illegitimate dragon-phoenix twins and now want to climb your way up to become the real madam?
Now that even the police have lost contact—let alone the boss—what power do you have to fire me?
Let me tell you this: even if the boss were standing here today, I’m still taking this food.
I’m just a worker. I do the job I’m paid for.
Back then, I agreed to work on the resort project because they promised me a raise and promotion.
In -60°C weather, I led my crew up the mountain to chop firewood and delivered it to all the villas. I did my job right.
For a month and a half, I barely even saw my wife and kids. I dedicated myself fully to this.
And now? We can’t even eat? And you come to me with crap about “selfless contribution”? Save it for your ancestors! Screw you!】
Mu Jiu was stunned after reading this!
So the “resort boss lady” everyone praised for over a month… was actually a mistress?!
Mu Jiu really wanted to comment “666!” (Chinese slang for impressive). Even in the apocalypse, she could enjoy such spicy gossip!
What was even more amusing was that the “boss lady” didn’t reply to refute anything. So… did that mean the accusation was true?
Even funnier—when Mu Jiu checked that woman’s WeChat account in the group, she had already left the group!
With the mask torn off, the chat group exploded again.
Among these wealthy wives, mistresses were absolutely unforgivable enemies…
Their anger quickly shifted from the issue of paying protection fees to full-blown attacks on the phony, pretentious mistress.
And so, the Butler Department quietly bowed out of the hot seat.
After letting the group rage for a while, once the venting had died down, Butler Chen Xiao sent a calculated bait message:
【New Notice: If any villa has prepared their grain, feel free to @ me in the group.
As long as food is ready, the Butler Department can make an exception and deliver firewood tonight!】
Unlike earlier pushback, this time someone quickly tagged Chen Xiao.
It was that family of 12 who had moved into the haunted villa.
They had narrowly escaped death before and valued their lives greatly. No way would they risk it again.
In this freezing cold, with no firewood, they wouldn’t survive till morning.
With such a large household, they were already out of firewood for hours. Adults and children were huddling together, shivering with purple lips.
The moment they heard firewood could be delivered tonight, they jumped to comply.
Chen Xiao replied immediately:
【Please prepare 6 jin of grain. The firewood for 12 people will arrive in ten minutes!】
This message crushed everyone else’s resistance.
Once the first person compromised, others followed.
Within minutes, the chat was flooded with dozens of messages requesting immediate firewood delivery.
At least half the guests in the hot spring resort caved in and willingly became part of the “grain tax” crowd.
Why call them chumps?
Because butler services at the resort were already included in the hefty villa rental fees.
That high cost was precisely due to the “all-inclusive” treatment.
Now, the boss had taken their money but didn’t pay the staff, and the staff came back to the guests for double payment.
Wasn’t that a scam?
Worse yet, food was already scarce.
Winter was far from over. Using food to trade for firewood was just robbing Peter to pay Paul. The more you patched, the more you lost—a slow suicide.
But Mu Jiu couldn’t be bothered.
She didn’t reply, tossed her phone aside, and went to sleep.
—–
Early the next morning, just after dawn, the doorbell woke Mu Jiu up. A crowd from the Butler Department had arrived outside her villa.
Mu Jiu descended from upstairs, her long black hair loose and her body wrapped in a fluffy pink bunny onesie, yawning the whole way.
“What is it?”
She looked at the crowd through four layers of glass, triple electric fences, and solid iron fencing.
“Miss Mu, please open the door. We’re here to deliver your firewood. Please prepare your service management fee.”
“I won’t be needing firewood deliveries anymore, thank you. Please leave.”
Mu Jiu yawned again, turned around, and was ready to go back to bed.
BANG BANG BANG—they started pounding on the door like mad.
“Miss Mu, you must’ve seen last night’s group announcement.
The service fee isn’t just for firewood—it also ensures your personal safety…”
Mu Jiu turned back. “Oh, I already ran out of food. I’m fasting and waiting to die. No need to protect me. Go try someone else.”
The butlers were stunned—did she just brush off their threat?!
Was this girl nuts? Did she not understand what they were really saying?
They could see the flocks of chickens and ducks in her backyard from afar. And she claimed she had no food? Was she joking?
Right—didn’t she say she had some kind of “mania” before? Damn it, she really was sick!
So the butler tried again, more patiently: “Miss Mu, please don’t worry or act rashly!
How about this—we won’t take your food. Let’s just use your chickens instead.
We’ll give you a discount. One chicken equals one week’s management fee.
And we’ll even deliver double portions of firewood daily. How’s that sound?”
Mu Jiu looked at the group who had their eyes on her beloved chickens and ducks.
“You guys just want the service fee, right? How about this—last time your ‘boss lady’ sent out a 6,666 yuan red packet. I’ll transfer it all to you. Deal?
That counts as my service fee. That’s a lot already! Almost a month’s salary. People should learn to be satisfied.”
Then she calmly pulled out her phone from her bunny onesie and waved it at them through the glass.
The butlers: …This woman was seriously insane!
“We don’t want money. It’s useless now. We’re not here to ask for your consent today. Get those chickens out here!
As long as you live in this resort, you’re paying the fee no matter what. Or we won’t be so polite next time!”
“Oh? And if I refuse? What are you gonna do?”
Mu Jiu asked, reaching into her pajama pocket and pulling out a silver ear pick, casually scratching her ear like she didn’t give a damn.
“Miss Mu, you’re living alone in such a big villa.
Aren’t you afraid of… a fire accident? A robbery? Maybe even a murder?
You know, the whole South City—no, the whole country—is buried in snow and ice. There’s no police to call anymore.
Here in this hot spring resort, let’s be honest—it’s us butlers who make the rules now.
If you want to keep living here in peace, my advice? Be obedient and stop playing games.
Otherwise, one day you’ll get buried in the mountain snow, and no one will even find your body!
Now open the damn door! Or don’t blame us for breaking it down!”
With that, they slammed on her gate even harder.
