Chapter 24: Have You Ever Thought About Divorce?
His words stunned the village chief, who hastily nodded.
“Agreed, agreed. With so many solutions, how could I not have thought of a single one?”
“Commander Nan, you’re amazing! You even understand wild boars?”
Lin Sinan, standing beside them, had stars in his peach blossom eyes.
“I read it in a book.”
Nan Fangjue looked at the village chief again.
“Since you have no objections, let’s start piling the stakes. How many people are in the village? If there aren’t enough hands, I can arrange for a platoon of soldiers to assist.”
“Oh, that’s wonderful! Commander Nan, you’re our savior! We’re no longer afraid of wild boars!”
The village chief was so happy his mouth wouldn’t close.
“You’re exaggerating. This is what we soldiers should do. Let’s start after lunch and try to finish piling the stakes today.”
Nan Fangjue casually mentioned the work arrangement.
“Good, good! I’ll go back to the village and gather the villagers.”
The village chief happily returned to the village committee.
…
Lin Sinan put an arm around Nan Fangjue’s shoulder and gave a thumbs-up.
“Amazing, you’re truly amazing.”
Since the explosion, he had been particularly impressed with Nan Fangjue. This man definitely had a promising future, capable of risking his life to save others.
Most importantly, he saved him, and he was exceptionally handsome; even as a man, Lin Sinan couldn’t take his eyes off him.
“Alright, stop flattering me. It’s just normal work.”
Nan Fangjue slapped his hand away. Lin Sinan sat back down on the chair, his expression unusually serious for once.
“I’m sincere, not flattering. By the way, I haven’t finished analyzing that poisoning incident yet. Let me tell you.”
Then, regardless of whether Nan Fangjue wanted to hear it or not, he started talking.
“That Doctor Zhang, is deceitful. Wen Yanyan is careless in choosing friends. It’s true, she’s silly and boisterous; what kind of good friends could she make? I judge that Zhang Meimei deliberately made her poison you.”
His analysis was spot on.
What?
Doctor Zhang, did it on purpose? Why would she do that? What benefit would it bring her?
“Okay, tell me.”
Nan Fangjue leaned back in his chair, took out his cigarette case, lit a cigarette, and put it in his mouth.
Yes, he had a smoking habit, which started after his grandfather’s death, but he wasn’t a heavy smoker; at most two cigarettes a day.
“Do you smoke?”
Nan Fangjue watched Lin Sinan exhale a smoke ring.
“No. Nan Fangjue, do you know why she did that?”
White smoke curled, and in the depths of his dark phoenix eyes, a vortex seemed to form, one that was impossible to reach.
“Tell me, why?”
When the smoke gradually dissipated, his eyes returned to clarity.
“Her goal was to make you dislike Wen Yanyan, ideally to the point of divorcing her, so she would have a chance. She secretly likes you.”
Lin Sinan finished his analysis.
“Sinan, we’ve known each other for so long, and I didn’t know you were such a good storyteller. Write novels; don’t waste your talent.”
Nan Fangjue treated it as a story.
“See, you don’t believe me. Whatever, it’s none of my business. In my opinion, Wen Yanyan got what she deserved. She took the medicine herself; how did she end up on top of you?”
Lin Sinan immediately thought of another question.
Nan Fangjue’s face darkened slightly.
“Are you done? When you get married, are you going to tell me about your marital affairs too?”
Why did he want to know everything?
“What are you talking about? I’m just being friendly. If you really want to know then, I’ll definitely tell you. We’re good brothers, after all. Besides, when I’ll get married is still unknown; I haven’t found anyone I like.”
Lin Sinan was definitely a giving friend, but only to Nan Fangjue, because he had decided to make this man his friend.
“You have high standards.”
Nan Fangjue knew that despite his carefree demeanor, Lin Sinan was perceptive.
“I don’t know if I have high standards or not, but thankfully, I don’t have a grandfather who likes to arrange child marriages.”
Lin Sinan strayed off topic again.
“Is your skin getting thicker again?”
Nan Fangjue gave him a sharp look.
“It is, hit me, kill me, go ahead, hit me.”
Lin Sinan kept leaning towards him.
“I’m ignoring you, you’re sick.”
Nan Fangjue got up and left the tent.
After a while, Lin Sinan also came out, following him from a distance.
Near the Wild Boar Village was a river, running east-west, flowing westward.
Seeing Nan Fangjue stop by the river, Lin Sinan went over, stood beside him, looked at his face, and said,
“Do you have any more cigarettes?”
“In my pocket, get it yourself.”
Nan Fangjue looked at the crystal-clear river water…
Lin Sinan took out the cigarette case, took one, lit it, and exhaled a smoke ring.
“Are you really angry?”
He knew that his grandfather was Nan Fangjue’s weak point; it was normal for him to be angry.
“It’s not your fault. You’re not the only one who thinks she’s not good enough for me.”
Nan Fangjue didn’t want his grandfather to be criticized because of him; it was all because of the arranged marriage.
“Then haven’t you ever thought about divorce?”
No matter how Lin Sinan thought about it, he couldn’t imagine Nan Fangjue and Wen Yanyan being happy together; they weren’t the same kind of people. Nan Fangjue was too excellent, while Wen Yanyan… was nothing.
