Chapter 32: The Conflicted Southern Lord
It felt like a long time passed before she heard, “Okay, you can let go.”
Lord Nan Fang agreed.
“You promised, you can’t go back on your word,” she said, still uneasy.
“Fine.”
Only then did Wen Yanyan release her grip. Her face was flushed.
It was a first.
In this life and the last, this was the first time she had tempted a man, using the softness of her chest against his hardness.
It proved effective.
Regaining his freedom, Nan Fangjue didn’t even turn his head as he said, “I’ll be right back,” before disappearing without a trace.
Wen Yanyan was astonished. He was faster than a rabbit!
…
After leaving home, Nan Fangjue strode directly to the regiment headquarters dormitory. He pushed open the door, and with a loud thud, threw himself onto the bed, startling the guard, Ding Daliang.
“Battalion Commander, what are you doing here? Is everything alright?”
“Everything’s fine. What are you doing here?”
He had thought the dormitory was empty.
“Battalion Commander, I haven’t been assigned a dormitory yet. The division commander let me temporarily set up a bed here until a room is available.”
Ding Daliang explained.
“Okay, stay here.”
Nan Fangjue closed his eyes.
“Battalion Commander, are you really alright? Why is your face so red? Did you drink?”
Ding Daliang found it strange.
“I have a headache. Don’t worry about me, it’ll be fine in a bit.”
Nan Fangjue turned around, facing the wall, hiding his face. His heart was in turmoil. He, who was always so steadfast, had easily compromised to a woman?
Just being hugged by her had thrown him off balance, disrupting his plan of separate beds.
Before, he hadn’t felt anything at all. Then again, she was so soft… This feeling was strange. He was crazy, he must be crazy.
Alright, he admitted he was just curious about a woman’s body, nothing more.
Nan Fangjue finally figured it out.
…
Unlike his turmoil, Wen Yanyan, back home after adjusting her mood, was making power-mesh underwear, wielding scissors against a piece of white elastic fabric.
Actually, she was somewhat dissatisfied with the elastic fabric because of its color; it was easy to stain, but there was no other color available at the department store.
She would just have to be careful when wearing it.
Wen Yanyan couldn’t wait to improve her figure.
Who said fat women couldn’t have a good figure? She was determined to change people’s prejudices.
The waistband of the underwear should be higher, three centimeters above the navel.
It should also be boxer-style. Most importantly, the underwear shouldn’t be too loose; it would lose its body-shaping effect.
…
Wen Yanyan worked all afternoon, and finally finished the shaping underwear. But before she could try it on, she heard the door open.
Oh, Nan Fangjue was back.
She didn’t have time to put away the underwear, so she quickly hid it under her luggage.
…
“You’re back.”
Wen Yanyan stood up, her face flushed.
“Mm.”
Nan Fangjue responded.
“I’ll reheat the leftover dumplings from lunch; we can eat those for dinner.” There were enough leftover dumplings for dinner, so she hadn’t made new ones.
“Good.”
Wen Yanyan went to the kitchen.
Nan Fangjue took a book from the drawer of his desk and lay down on the bed to read.
…
At the dinner table.
“Are you really Wen Yanyan?”
Nan Fangjue looked at her, unable to reconcile her with her previous image. He had been puzzled all afternoon.
“Yes, could I possibly be someone else?”
Wen Yanyan smiled.
“Are you confused by my transformation?”
“I can’t figure it out.”
The old Wen Yanyan, while boisterous outside, would become timid as a mouse whenever she saw him, never daring to look him in the eye.
She would also stammer.
But in just half a month, this woman was not only articulate and fluent, but also dared to look him straight in the eye, and even, even dared to hug him in broad daylight?
Could it be that cutting her hair had the effect of making her a new person, reforming her?
“Actually, it’s easy to understand. The reason I was so unreasonable and difficult before was because someone told me that since you were new here, I had to be strong, otherwise I would be bullied to death. They also said that women shouldn’t do all the work, even if they could, they shouldn’t say they could, because being able to do things makes you a slave to them. Women should enjoy life, don’t care what others think of you, or what they say about you. Life is short, freedom is most important, live freely and unrestrained.”
Although Wen Yanyan had embellished some things, the meaning was largely the same.
“Who said that?”
Nan Fangjue’s face darkened.
“Zhang Meimei. Now I’ve seen through her. She had bad intentions, suggesting I drug your water, and then went to the military dependents’ compound to slander me. I’ve decided she’s a bad person, and I won’t listen to her anymore.”
Wen Yanyan wanted to completely block Zhang Meimei’s path. Wasn’t she persistent? Let her wait and see! Rest assured, even if she came back, she wouldn’t have a chance.
“And, she’s already been sent to a study class for making mistakes and won’t be back for a while.”
Huh?
Zhang Meimei again?
Nan Fangjue frowned, saying nothing.
“Why aren’t you talking?”
Wen Yanyan sensitively noticed that Nan Fangjue had stopped talking after she mentioned Zhang Meimei. What was he thinking?
“I don’t usually talk much. You’re the one who talks a lot.”
He finally spoke.
Huh?
She talks a lot?
But she was only talking about serious things, not being unreasonable. Wen Yanyan felt a bit upset.
“I’m not mute.”
Wen Yanyan picked up a dumpling with a bit of an edge to her tone, stuffing it into her mouth. Even her cheeks were working hard as she chewed.
“I didn’t say you were mute.”
Nan Fangjue explained.
