Chapter 39: A Peach Blossom Blocker
Wen Yanyan stared blankly for a while before returning to the kitchen. She had leftover spicy chicken feet from lunch.
It was fortunate she hadn’t brought them all out, otherwise, Lin Sinan would have eaten them all.
He really could eat a lot, and without any restraint.
Wen Yanyan put the remaining spicy chicken feet in a bowl and sent them to Wang Dahua next door, letting her try them and see if they were delicious.
If she could offer some suggestions, that would be even better. She had begun to pin her hopes on Nan Fangjue.
The facts proved he was too polite.
Even after eating a delicious delicacy, his response was only two words: “Not bad.”
Wang Dahua’s eyes lit up when she saw the spicy chicken feet in Wen Yanyan’s bowl.
“Oh, Yanzi, did you make this? The color is so beautiful, it looks delicious. And they’re boneless! That’s so much trouble. Thank you! Wait a minute, I’ll go inside and be right back with your bowl.”
She hurried back inside, poured out the chicken feet, washed the bowl clean, and put a dozen large red dates in it before returning.
“Yanzi, try these red dates. They were mailed from my hometown, they’re so sweet and good for blood and qi.”
“Thank you, Sister Dahua.”
Wen Yanyan accepted them. She didn’t refuse because it was customary; you can’t return an empty bowl. It’s bad luck, implying begging.
Nan Fangjue returned to his office in the army and hadn’t even settled down when Lin Sinan came looking for him, plopping down in the chair opposite.
“Why did you just get back? I’ve been waiting for you for ages.”
Guard Ding Daliang brought over a bamboo-covered thermos and poured a cup of hot tea for both Lin Sinan and Nan Fangjue.
Late?
Nan Fangjue glanced at the time.
“It’s not even one o’clock yet. Why are you so free? Don’t you have anything to do?” He knew he just came to see him.
“I have my own work arrangements. I’ll be training those new recruits in a bit, setting them straight. Hey, I ask you, after I left, did Wen Yanyan scold me?”
Lin Sinan suddenly lowered his voice.
“No, why would she scold you?”
Nan Fangjue picked up his notebook.
“You’ve done too many bad things. I’ve never said anything good about her, but it’s fine if she didn’t scold me. Fang Jue, Wen Yanyan is really different from before.”
“She’s lost a lot of weight. She only has one chin now, not three. She’s not as chubby anymore, and she looks better. But she’s still not good enough for you, far from it.”
After a while, Lin Sinan started talking badly about her again.
“Don’t worry about my affairs, mind your own business.”
Nan Fangjue was getting tired of listening.
Lin Sinan looked serious.
“If I don’t worry about you, who will? You just settled, you don’t even know how to pick a wife. You listen to everything your grandfather says. But, considering how delicious her cooking is, I can give her two extra points, no more.”
He thought of the spicy chicken feet from lunch, they were really delicious.
“You’re seriously ill, adding and subtracting points, so childish. Go, I have things to do, get out of here.”
Nan Fangjue stood up to shoo him away.
“But I still have something to…” Lin Sinan still had a question he hadn’t asked.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t as strong as Nan Fangjue and was pushed out.
Not long after Lin Sinan left, Ding Linglong, the lead singer of the art troupe, arrived, smiling and holding a book.
“Why are you here? Lin Sinan just left.”
Nan Fangjue only glanced at her before lowering his head to write; he was writing tomorrow’s training plan.
“I’m not looking for him, I hate him.”
Ding Linglong came in and sat in Lin Sinan’s seat, staring at him intently as he worked hard.
“I don’t have time.”
Nan Fangjue cut her off.
She said again, “Nanfang…”
“Call me Tuan Nan.”
Nan Fangjue interrupted.
The continuous verbal attacks from the front made Ding Linglong angry.
“You! How can you treat me like this? Wuu…”
She buried her face on the table and started crying.
Huh?
Nan Fangjue finally put down his pen and looked at the guard, Ding Daliang.
Ding Daliang immediately understood and went out to gently close the door.
“Why are you crying? People will think I bullied you. Stop crying!”
Nan Fangjue, like all tough guys, was afraid of girls crying.
“I heard you came back from a mission, so I came to see you. Is that not allowed? You always criticize me, one sentence after another, can a girl like me take it?”
Ding Linglong choked back sobs.
In front of him, she was completely different from the domineering attitude she had towards Wen Yanyan; she was much more vulnerable.
“What’s there to see? I’m married. Can you be more mindful?”
Nan Fangjue frowned in annoyance.
He knew Ding Linglong liked him, but he was already engaged.
Besides, he didn’t feel anything for her; she was like an immature child.
He thought she would give up after he got married.
Unexpectedly, she was still the same as before, always finding excuses to approach him.
Ding Linglong finally stopped crying, sat up straight, and looked ahead at him.
Her eyes were already red from crying.
“I’ve been very mindful. I’ll leave after I see you.”
“Have you seen enough? Go quickly, don’t come again.”
Nan Fangjue was annoyed.
“You!”
Ding Linglong buried her face on the table and sobbed again.
“What’s wrong with you? If you cry again, I’ll call Lin Sinan.”
Nan Fangjue threatened her; only Lin Sinan could control her.
Sure enough.
Ding Linglong stood up, wiping her tears.
“I won’t cry anymore. Then… can I still come in the future?”
“Your legs are your own; I can’t control you.”
Nan Fangjue didn’t want to see her cry anymore.
“Okay, you said so, I’m going now.”
Ding Linglong finally left.
Nan Fangjue called out to the door, “Ding Daliang.”
“Yes!”
Ding Daliang immediately came in.
“I have a task for you. Did you see that girl just now? If she comes again, you must block her at the door. Do you understand?”
When Nan Fangjue first learned that he would have a guard, he was a little resistant, thinking it was unnecessary and redundant.
Now he realized that the superior’s arrangement of a guard was very necessary; he could help him block peach blossoms.
