Chapter 48: The New Male Medic
Why choose this place?
Because it’s remote, geographically perilous, and the living conditions are harsh. Only in such a place can the true intensity of field training be stimulated.
Although it’s quite far from the Xinjiang garrison, we can travel by car, eliminating the need for soldiers to trek for miles and wasting precious time on the road.
So that evening, the troops arrived at their destination and set up camp.
Until late at night, when the moon was high in the sky.
Nan Fangjue was still sitting under a kerosene lamp in his military tent, writing tomorrow’s training plan on a makeshift stool.
“Why are you still working?”
Lin Sinan, having finished his own work, came to find him.
“Almost done.”
Nan Fangjue said without looking up.
“The conditions here are really tough. You really picked a great spot.”
Lin Sinan had just walked around and found that it was a barren mountain with little water, only a small river that was almost dry.
“Field training isn’t a sightseeing trip.”
Nan Fangjue explained.
“Right, you’re right.”
Lin Sinan relaxed, stretching his long legs out on the cot, looking at the iron frame of the tent, lost in thought.
Nan Fangjue finally finished his work. He put his notes in his jacket pocket and lit a cigarette.
Soon, a faint smell of tobacco filled the air.
Lin Sinan looked at him sideways.
“Fangjue, how are things going between you and Wen Yanyan these days?”
“Can you think about something else?”
Amidst the smoke, Nan Fangjue’s handsome features seemed even more delicate, almost unreal.
“Just chatting, chatting isn’t illegal. You’re my only good friend, of course I care about you.”
Lin Sinan genuinely cared.
“Normal.”
Nan Fangjue said.
“How normal? Can you say a few more words?”
Although Lin Sinan was already familiar with his way of speaking, it didn’t mean he was used to it.
“Everything is normal.”
Nan Fangjue added two words.
Lin Sinan almost spat blood.
“Oh my god, I’m impressed. You don’t want to say, do you? Then I’ll tell you what I heard.”
His little loudspeaker started broadcasting again.
“What did you hear?”
Nan Fangjue glanced at him.
“You carried Wen Yanyan to the infirmary, and it was pouring rain.”
Lin Sinan seemed to know everything.
“Did you hear it from the male medic?”
Nan Fangjue immediately thought of the new male medic in the unit, Ma Jian she. He was sent by the unit to replace Zhang Meimei, less than half a month ago.
“No.”
Lin Sinan denied.
“Then who told you?”
Nan Fangjue really wanted to know, because on that rainy day, there was nobody on the road.
“Okay, I won’t tease you anymore. Nobody told me, I saw it with my own eyes.”
Lin Sinan told the truth.
“You?”
Nan Fangjue didn’t believe it. “Are you crazy? Running around in the pouring rain?”
He looked serious.
“I also went to the infirmary that afternoon, I got some tetracycline from the medic, my throat was a little sore. I had an umbrella, I didn’t get wet, I just saw a couple getting drenched in the rain.”
Lin Sinan touched his throat, which still wasn’t feeling well.
“Your throat hurts because you talk too much. Talk less in the future.”
Nan Fangjue’s words were pointed.
“You’re deliberately trying to get at me, aren’t you?”
Lin Sinan sat up from the bed, his peach blossom eyes sparkling.
“I’m just curious, how did you two progress so quickly? In the pouring rain, you carried her to the infirmary? Your relationship is unusual.”
He didn’t treat himself as an outsider, he inquired about everything.
“If we fought every day, would you still be curious?”
Nan Fangjue tapped the ash into the ashtray.
“Fighting? I wouldn’t be curious, it’s normal, because you’re not on the same page.”
Lin Sinan said with certainty.
“Your attitude is wrong.”
Nan Fangjue criticized him.
“Stop talking about attitudes. What’s wrong with her? Why did she go to the infirmary?”
Lin Sinan was anxious.
“I hit her.”
Nan Fangjue said deliberately.
“What? You hit her? Why?”
Lin Sinan excitedly got up from the bed and stood on the ground.
“Didn’t you say you weren’t curious?”
Nan Fangjue was waiting for him.
“Fangjue?”
Lin Sinan’s peach blossom eyes narrowed.
“Why are you so cunning? Deliberately digging a pit for me, right? Okay, I take back what I said earlier, I’m curious about everything, is that okay?”
He just wanted to know.
“You have no principles at all. How did I get such a gossipy friend?”
Nan Fangjue looked disgusted.
“I gossip for your own good. I’m too lazy to listen to other people’s business. Tell me quickly.”
Lin Sinan stood beside him again.
“Her knee was injured, it needed to be disinfected and bandaged.”
Nan Fangjue said.
“How did she get injured? Did you hit her?”
Lin Sinan had another thought.
“When have I ever hit a woman! Do you want a beating?”
Nan Fangjue glared at him.
Lin Sinan immediately jumped to the side, “Didn’t you say so?”
“Can’t you tell the difference between truth and lies?”
Nan Fangjue was so angry that he forgot to smoke, the cigarette burned down, leaving a large amount of ash.
“Okay, you didn’t hit her, then how did she get injured?”
Lin Sinan compromised again.
Nan Fangjue was really annoyed by him. He tapped the ash, and told him what happened that day, and finally added a supplement.
“Through this period of contact, I’ve seen many of her good qualities.”
…
Lin Sinan stopped talking again, lost in thought.
Nan Fangjue looked at him sideways, this kid wasn’t acting normally lately.
He kept asking and inquiring relentlessly when he didn’t know, and when he did, he pretended to be deep. Look, he’s not saying anything again.
This time, Nan Fangjue didn’t ask him either. He extinguished his cigarette and picked up a book from the table to read.
After a moment of silence, Lin Sinan finally spoke, “She’s quite brave, she actually went to set up a stall.”
“Don’t go around spreading this.”
Nan Fangjue reminded him.
“Don’t worry, I know what to say and what not to say.”
Lin Sinan stood up.
“It’s late, I’m going back to sleep, you should sleep too.”
He left.
Huh?
Nan Fangjue was a little surprised.
Because this time, Lin Sinan didn’t say anything bad about Wen Yanyan.
…
The next morning, Nan Fangjue assembled the troops and officially began field training.
This field training was specially prepared for the three major military region’s large-scale exercises in June, and he couldn’t be careless.
At home, Wen Yanyan slept in naturally. She opened her eyes and looked out the window, the sun was shining brightly, the weather was beautiful.
It was early April, a hopeful season.
She stretched, feeling good. Not having to sell chicken feet was relaxing and carefree, and she had a lot of time to spare.
Last night, Wen Yanyan received a notice from the army, asking her to go to the military art troupe for an interview today.
The time was 9 am, and the location was the performance hall on the second floor of the military art troupe.
The efficiency of the military was high. The problem Nan Fangjue had just raised was solved by the army on the third day.
Wen Yanyan looked at the time on the wall, it was only 8 o’clock, she had plenty of time.
Because the art troupe wasn’t far from home, she could walk there in ten minutes.
She got up and got dressed, and Xiaoqiuqiu followed her like a little tail.
“Xiaoqiuqiu, are you hungry? I’ll make you some food, don’t worry.”
“Woof~”
Xiaoqiuqiu loved talking to Wen Yanyan.
“You cute little guy, in a few days, I’ll take you out to play, okay?”
Wen Yanyan bent down and tugged at its little ears.
Wolf cubs, like dogs, need to be walked regularly, otherwise they’ll become shy.
“Woof~Woof~”
Xiaoqiuqiu was happy, it barked twice.
Suddenly.
“Knock knock knock”
Someone knocked on the door outside.
Wen Yanyan opened the door and saw a soldier, who was holding a piece of paper.
