Chapter 018: The Yun Family

The Yun family was a prominent household in Jing City. Though not part of the first-tier elite, they were definitely a notable name in the second tier.

Previously, the Yun family had been allied by marriage with the Gu family—specifically Gu Shi’an’s family—which held slightly more influence than the Yuns.

The two families had cooperated for over a decade, but relations had cooled in recent years. That was why Yun Xi had been sent to the Gu family for a marriage alliance.

Later, Gu Shi’an sold off all his shares and family assets, losing his commercial value. As a result, Yun Xi’s biological parents ordered her to cancel the engagement immediately.

The Yun family’s structure was fairly simple. The current head of the household was Yun Xi’s grandfather, Yun Hu, who had only two children: an elder son, Yun Xi’s father Yun Hai, and a younger daughter, her aunt Yun Mei.

Yun Hai had only one biological daughter—Yun Xi. Yun Linlin, on the other hand, was a foster daughter, mistakenly raised as their own in earlier years.

Yun Mei had never married out; instead, she brought in a live-in husband, with whom she had a son named Yun Li, who was now 17 and in high school.

Her husband had passed away a few years ago, so it was just her and Yun Li present today.

From Yun Xi’s inherited memories, she knew that Yun Hai and Yun Mei did not get along, and they almost never sat at the same table. Besides competing over the family inheritance, the two were also half-siblings, with a strained relationship since childhood.

Now that the whole family had gathered under one roof, it was clear how seriously they were taking the news about Fallen Gods Continent.

“Xixi, you’re back. Come sit, your grandpa has something to ask you,” Liu Yue’e called out.

It wasn’t mealtime yet. The entire family was seated around the living room sofa.

As Yun Xi approached, every pair of eyes turned to her.

Her grandfather Yun Hu had his usual stern expression—calm and unreadable.

Her biological parents wore expressions of surface-level warmth, but their eyes were distant and indifferent.

Yun Linlin looked at her with interest and waved cheerfully, “Xixi, you’re here!”

Since Yun Xi and Yun Linlin were born on the same day, no one had ever established who was the elder. They simply addressed each other by name.

As for Yun Mei, the family tensions meant she wasn’t close to Yun Xi and only gave her a faint nod of acknowledgment.

Yun Li, however, stood up and greeted her, “Xixi-jie.”

Yun Xi nodded in return.

“Grandpa, Dad, Mom, Aunt…” Yun Xi greeted each elder politely, then went to sit beside Liu Yue’e.

Seeing this, Yun Hu finally spoke.

“Xiao Xi, your mother told me you discovered something unusual about the game Fallen Gods Continent early on?”

“Yes…” Yun Xi then repeated the explanation she had already given to the officials.

“So you’ve already logged in? And you’ve confirmed—it’s a real world?” A serious glint flickered in Yun Hu’s eyes.

“That’s right. And items from inside can actually be brought out.” As she spoke, Yun Xi took a copper coin from her pocket—one she had prepared in advance.

Liu Yue’e examined it briefly before handing it to Yun Hu.

He scrutinized it carefully.

The texture and appearance of the coin were fairly ordinary, but the symbols engraved on it were highly intricate—not belonging to any known language on Blue Star.

“I saw posts about this online—I thought they were fake,” Yun Mei said, sitting with perfect posture, though her voice had a sharp edge.

“Xixi-jie, I’m so jealous,” Yun Li chimed in. “The game launched while I was at school—I didn’t even have time to touch my phone. Such a shame.”

“Yeah, same here. So jealous, Xixi,” Yun Linlin added with a pout.

“Xixi, is it true that this game gives out resurrection charms as quest rewards, just like the rumors say?”

“Yes. The reward for my second main quest was one Low-Grade Resurrection Charm and 100 copper coins.”

Yun Xi went on to explain that the low-grade charm could only revive players under level 10.

“So even an ordinary person could use it?” Yun Hai asked from the side.

“It should work, but there’s no way to confirm it with 100% certainty. No one’s tested it,” Yun Xi replied.

“The most important thing we know for now,” she added, “is that the game is extremely dangerous.” She briefly summarized the official player group’s announcement.

The group fell silent, lost in thought.

Yun Xi had shared almost everything openly—after all, these were things anyone could find out with a little effort. There was no need to keep secrets.

“My advice is: when the game reopens, everyone should create an account and log in. Try out the main quest, but don’t go monster hunting yet.”

Yun Xi’s advice was sincere, and everyone nodded in agreement—it aligned with the information they’d already gathered.

“The game is one thing,” Yun Hu sighed, “but the real concern is whether this will change the world outside.”

“Grandpa, maybe don’t worry too much about the real world,” Yun Li said excitedly. “What if the cultivators in Fallen Gods Continent can actually extend their lifespans? Right, Xixi-jie?”

Yun Xi paused for a moment, then nodded.

“In my starter village, the village chief is a young-looking spellcaster. But from what I’ve heard, he’s already a grandfather of four.”

Everyone was shocked.

Ordinary superpowers were one thing—but longevity? That was on a whole other level.

Yun Hu was nearly eighty years old. At his age, what else would he care about more than his rapidly approaching end?

If the top players in Fallen Gods Continent could really extend their lives, maybe… he could too?

Yun Hu’s grip tightened slightly on his cane.

Liu Yue’e and Yun Mei were also intrigued. They were both over forty—no longer youthful. What woman didn’t care about beauty? If cultivation could make them young again…

Each person present had their own thoughts.

In the end, it was the head of the household—Yun Hu—who made the call.

“Let’s follow Xixi’s advice. Once the game reopens, we’ll all register and log in—but we must act cautiously.”

“Dad, what about our real-world businesses?” Yun Hai asked.

“Put them on hold. Skipping a few days won’t matter.”

“But… a lot of employees have quit recently,” Yun Mei said hesitantly.

Yun Xi: …

So that’s why they suddenly realized something was wrong—turns out their company employees were quitting just like students were dropping out of school.

“If the company can pause, then pause it. Give those resigning employees time off. If that doesn’t work, there’s nothing we can do.”

And it wasn’t just their company—other organizations were being disrupted by Fallen Gods Continent too.

The authorities hadn’t made their position clear yet. They’d just have to take things step by step.

At this, Yun Hu looked to Yun Xi again. “Xixi, would you mind telling us more about your experiences in the game? We can use that as a reference.”

Yun Xi hesitated. But aside from her rebirth and the treasure vault, there was nothing she couldn’t share. As for the techniques she’d learned, she could just blame it on the village chief.
