Chapter 046: Sub-Class
During this period, Yun Xi had remained in regular contact with Chen Nana. The latter had often asked her to help purchase certain supplies from Qinglan Town, and Yun Xi had agreed—receiving a generous commission in return.
This time, upon receiving Yun Xi’s message, Chen Nana immediately took it seriously.
“Yun Xi, are you saying our Blue Star’s recipes and prescriptions can also be recognized by the system?”
“Exactly,” Yun Xi replied. “For example, even a simple bowl of noodles, when infused with spiritual energy during cooking, can become a dish with special effects.”
“But the effect depends on your chef level. At first, the benefits won’t be that great—there might even be side effects.”
Like prescriptions, recipes also observe the rules of mutual reinforcement and restraint among ingredients.
Certain ingredients used together will have positive effects, while others may become toxic when combined.
Recently, Yun Xi had occasionally been cooking for herself.
When she followed recipes found online, most dishes turned out fine without negative side effects. But if she improvised recklessly and accidentally combined incompatible ingredients, she would end up with dishes that had adverse effects.
Some examples: dishes that, when eaten long-term, lowered constitution stats or caused mental fatigue.
On the other hand, dishes with positive effects typically provided minor constitution boosts when consumed over time.
For instance, on the Fallen Gods Continent, Yun Xi had spent real money learning an entire set of cookbooks on white mushrooms—36 volumes in total, each documenting a unique cooking method.
Each method produced a different effect, but all shared a common feature: no side effects.
The simplest, boiled white mushroom, increased fullness and—if eaten over many years—would slowly raise constitution.
A slightly more complex method, fried white mushroom, also restored fullness and constitution, but added another perk: a slight increase in fire resistance over time.
Yun Xi couldn’t quite explain the mechanics. She could only attribute it to the “mutation” that occurred when spiritual energy was infused into the dish.
But white mushrooms were among the most common low-grade ingredients. The terms “slight constitution boost” or “slight fire resistance” were so minimal they were basically negligible—you could eat white mushrooms for ten years and maybe not see even 1 point of improvement.
It was just one of the everyday foods in Qinglan Town.
“Nana-jie, the real value isn’t in the recipes—it’s in the prescriptions. Many of Blue Star’s medical formulas can produce meaningful effects. I suggest you look into developing that area.”
“Yun Xi, thank you for the suggestion. I’ll report it to higher-ups. But… are you really not considering joining the Special Operations Bureau?”
Ever since the public beta started, Chen Nana had invited Yun Xi to join multiple times—only to be turned down every time.
“No. I’ve taken on a special mission. If I join the core government department, it might lead to complications and drag you all down.”
Yun Xi wasn’t lying. If she signed a contract with the government, it would establish an official karmic connection.
In the future, if something went wrong—if they encountered a truly powerful enemy—one who could wipe out Blue Star with a single hand, the consequences would be catastrophic.
“Understood. Then please be careful, Yun Xi.” Chen Nana recognized the caution in her words and knew it wasn’t just an excuse.
“Yun Xi, if you ever need anything from us, just say the word. Even if you’re not part of the core department, you’re still a member of Hua Nation’s official forces. That fact won’t change.” This was the promise Chen Nana made after reporting to her superiors.
After all, whether it was the books of knowledge Yun Xi had brought back or the valuable intel she had provided—these were irreplaceable.
Her contributions would not be overlooked or taken for granted.
“Okay. Thanks, Nana-jie.”
Upon receiving Yun Xi’s sub-class information, the relevant departments immediately began conducting experiments.
They worked quickly. In less than a day, they issued an official public announcement:
[Latest News from the Fallen Gods Continent]
Official spellcasters can now switch to various sub-classes… Among them, the Pharmacist and Chef sub-classes have confirmed that Blue Star’s medical prescriptions and recipes are recognized by the system.
If any official spellcaster has prior experience as a chef or pharmacist, they can contact their local government office to join the core department and receive focused training.
Benefits and obligations include—
The government moved swiftly and began recruiting as soon as the intel was verified.
It wasn’t that no one in the official ranks wanted to switch to Chef or Pharmacist. The issue was—skill points were limited.
To develop into a true sub-class expert, one had to give up progress in their main class.
Take the Chef sub-class as an example:
Players only gained one skill point per level, and spellcaster-exclusive skills could only be upgraded via point allocation.
Although chef skills could also be leveled up through practice, that method was much slower—and lacked some key advantages.
Using system skill points boosted one’s career comprehension, having a long-term impact on development.
More importantly—training culinary skills manually was excruciatingly slow.
But if the government directly recruited official spellcasters with prior culinary experience, it would be a whole different story.
Their starting chef level could already be Lv 2 or Lv 3. Their signature dishes might already be high-tier. Their starting point was far above average.
The government was also offering very generous compensation—a monthly salary of 10 to 100 silver coins.
Yun Xi guessed this was linked to their chef level. If a master chef started at Lv 10, they’d likely qualify for the maximum 100 silver coins.
That was the same pay as the patrol captain in Qinglan Town. Right now, almost no one would turn that down.
And this salary would surely increase with one’s culinary level.
Even the base salary of 10 silver coins was quite good—equal to what ordinary patrol members in Qinglan Town earned.
As for patrol contracts, everyone knew how harsh those were. Hua Nation’s government contracts would certainly be much more reasonable—they wouldn’t arbitrarily restrict freedom or impose extreme penalties for breaches.
The difference was clear.
To many people, their homeland still felt far safer than any faction in the Fallen Gods Continent.
