Chapter 24
“Shitou, are you home?”
“I brought two educated youth sisters home to look at some furniture. Where are you, Grandpa Chen?”
An old man with a haggard face walked out from the backyard, standing straight and speaking in a strong voice: “Fat Tiger, you have brought people here again. Thank you, Grandpa Chen.”
“Whatever furniture you two want, we have it all here. But if it’s large furniture, it may take some time to make it.”
Feng Moyan took out a piece of paper. It was what she had written down after looking at the three rooms. Since the three of them were not short of money, they would naturally do everything as thoughtfully as possible.
“We have all these benches, wardrobes, and straw mats here, but the bathtub may take some time. After all, most country people don’t use it. It’s waste material and expensive.”
It’s the end of August now, and we don’t need a bathtub yet, “It’s okay, we can wait a few days, we’re not in a hurry.
But there are a lot of things. Can you send them to us? We just got here and we really don’t have any tools.”
Old Master Chen smiled and waved his hands repeatedly: “It’s okay, my son is very strong, he will deliver it soon. The things in here are in triplicate, right?”
“It’s 120 yuan in total. I’ll give you a few small desks. The educated youth all like to read, so this will be convenient.”
Old Man Chen looked at their clothes and said something in a low voice, “I wonder if the two educated youth can exchange some sugar coupons for me. My daughter-in-law is pregnant, and the doctor told me to eat something nutritious.
There is nothing nutritious in our village, so we can only buy some candy to sweeten our mouths, and that’s considered a good thing.”
Si Yinni took out a few candy tickets and a malted milk ticket from her bag, “Here are all for you. I don’t need these things right now. Being pregnant is a big deal. Congratulations.”
Mr. Chen leaned forward, his face full of smiles, “Thank you, Si Zhiqing, thank you so much.”
As soon as the two of them went out, they saw Shao Wenwen walking around the village arrogantly, looking displeased with everyone.
“Oh, now they have found a place and even bought furniture. It seems like someone has taken this place home.
But I heard that if you stay in someone else’s house, you will become that person’s daughter-in-law one day.
I don’t know what you are thinking, why are you so eager to do this? Is this really the way your family taught you the rules?”
Si Yinni’s face flushed. This modern rumor was deadly. She was so angry that she spoke quickly: “You are talking nonsense. We clearly rented an unused house in the village. We have formal procedures, and it is a whole yard. It is not a boarding house as you said.”
Shao Wenwen glanced at Hu Laidi behind her, and when she saw the other person nodded, she knew that her sarcasm was useless, as her proud head would not admit her mistake.
“Even if we rent a house, it’s in such a shabby state that we may not even be able to live in it. The snow in the Northeast is so deep that if it collapses, it will be a disaster. We will lose our lives.”
Feng Moyan looked up at her, raised his hand to pinch her chin, and looked back and forth: “Why can’t you learn to be good? How many times have I told you not to mess with me? Otherwise, I’m not sure what I will do.”
She applied a little force with her hands and Shao Wenwen felt difficulty breathing. At this time, she realized that the other party was not joking, and she really wanted to kill herself.
Shao Wenwen was so frightened that she trembled in her heart and slapped her with both hands, “Let…let me go, I am the second daughter of the Shao family in Kyoto, you…”
Feng Moyan ignored her and used more force until her face turned purple. Then he let go and patted the non-existent dirt on his hands.
“Remember this clearly. You can’t mess with me. If rumors spread again, I’ll show you what the underworld looks like. I’m sure your family won’t be sad because a daughter is gone.”
The Shao family seemed to dote on their daughter, but it was just a bargaining chip to pave the way for their son. Before leaving Kyoto, she had a general understanding of the distribution of power in Kyoto.
Shao Wei, the head of the Shao family, is Shao Wenwen’s grandfather. His son Shao Mingcan was unsuccessful in his youth. For some reason, after his daughter was born, his career suddenly became prosperous, as if his Ren and Du meridians were opened.
Although his wife Lin Ying came from an ordinary factory class family, she was very resourceful and managed to get Shao Wei to agree to the marriage.
The first child she gave birth to was Shao Qingshan, the eldest grandson of the Shao family, which secured her position in the family. The second child she gave birth to was Shao Wenwen.
She dotes on Shao Wenwen to an outrageous degree. Shao Wenwen’s current arrogance and domineering behavior can only be attributed to Lin Ying’s manipulation.
Before she left, the Shao family set their sights on the eldest grandson of the Wu family, wanting to help them get something done, but the other party didn’t care about it at all.
It’s nothing more than that the two families are in different camps and their factions are not unified. The Wu family has never responded. I heard that the prince of the Wu family has never shown up.
It seems that Shao Wenwen went to the countryside with a mission. If this person was ignorant, she wouldn’t mind giving her a good result and letting her experience the fear of the mountains.
There are many people who don’t have wives in the mountains. I guess she doesn’t like that kind of life.
Feng Moyan claims that he is not a good person, but anyone who stands in his way will be killed, and if they come in pairs, he will profit from it.
Si Yinni felt that something was wrong with Sister Yan, so she pulled her hand and shook it: “It’s not worth it for Sister Yan to have blood on her hands. She can’t survive in the countryside with such a personality.”
Feng Moyan didn’t say anything. He looked at Shao Wenwen’s hurried back and smiled: “Let’s go and see how our home is decorated.”
Neither of them took this matter to heart.
An hour later, Brother Chen delivered the furniture, as well as some tables, chairs and benches, which are all necessities for the home.
“Feng Zhiqing, Si Zhiqing, thank you for the receipts. Otherwise, my wife might not be able to keep the baby.”
Feng Moyan unloaded his things without saying anything.
Si Yinni smiled, with two pretty dimples on the corners of her mouth, “Brother Chen, you are joking. My name is Si Yinni, you can just call me Nizi, that’s what my family calls me.”
“Pregnancy is a big deal. If you need it in the future, you can ask me. My mother will send it to me next month.”
Brother Chen knew that the help was good enough, so he couldn’t be rude: “The farmers just need to eat a little. This time we made some money and cut some meat to make up for it.”
Several uncles who came to help were talking about it, “These educated youth are really rich. They bought so many new furniture. It’s not like Zhang Shan’s furniture is useless.”
An old man with a fierce face and a scar on his face was a bit scary: “Why do you care about others? We are all city kids. How can we touch other people’s things casually? This is polite. What do you know?”
Si Yinni held the bowl in her hand, as if she hadn’t heard their discussion: “Uncles, come and have some water. It’s just cooled. The weather is hot, so don’t get heatstroke.”
Uncle Daosha lowered his tone a little when he saw Si Yinni’s smiling face: “Hey, Si Zhiqing, you don’t have to be polite. We are all peasants. Just drink some boiled water.”
“That won’t work. Sister Yan said that it’s easy to get heat stroke in hot weather. Replenishing sugar is good for the body.”
Uncle Scar picked up the bowl and drank it all: “It’s really sweet. The last time I drank water like this was when my wife was in confinement. It tasted good.”
“I’m the captain of the second team of the Red Flag Brigade. Just call me Uncle Scar. That’s what everyone else calls me.”
Si Yinni squatted beside and filled the water: “Okay, Uncle Scar, my name is Si Yinni, I’m the only one at home, I’m a little spoiled, and I’m not very good at work. Uncles, please let Auntie teach me more.”
Uncle Scar also has an only daughter in his family, but she is not so spoiled and knows everything.
“I’ll let my Yan Zi teach you someday. She knows everything and is a master at everything at home and outside. My wife and I don’t have to worry about it anymore. It’s just that she didn’t receive much education.”
“That’s impossible. Sister Yanzi is so capable. She must be a good girl in the surrounding villages. Each girl has her own merits.”
Everyone was laughing, and no one said it was bad for Scar’s family to have only one daughter. Everyone understood that if it weren’t for the village, he would probably have many children.
Feng Moyan glanced at Si Yinni who was happily chatting with a group of middle-aged men, and she didn’t stop them.
She finally understood that this girl was a sweet-talker who smiled at everyone she met, but if she didn’t like something, no matter what anyone said, it would be useless.
But she is so stupid that she can’t even make her bed. I really don’t know why her family asked her to come to the countryside.
