Chapter 21: Truly Remarkable Skills

Su Miaomiao held her breath and focused, blocking out all distractions from the outside world.

She drew out a silver needle and inserted it precisely into an acupuncture point on Huang Chunhua’s body.

As the needle landed, the tip trembled slightly, faint white light flickering around it.

With each needle she applied, Su Miaomiao’s face paled a little more, and sweat began to bead across her forehead.

Outside the room, the crowd craned their necks, trying to peek inside, but the door and windows were tightly shut.

“That’s a postpartum hemorrhage, right? Can she even be saved?”

“There’s no way. A woman in the next village bled out during childbirth—and that was in a hospital. They still couldn’t save her.”

“But they said earlier that the baby wouldn’t even come out, and now it’s been safely delivered. Maybe this Dr. Su really does have extraordinary skills.”

“…”

The villagers murmured among themselves. Wang Daniu held his baby tightly, heart full of anxiety. He wished he could rush in and be by his wife’s side.

But since Su Miaomiao hadn’t called for him, he didn’t dare go in—he could only wait in anguish.

No one knew how much time had passed—long enough for Wang Daniu’s arms to go numb from holding the baby—when finally, the door creaked open from inside.

Su Miaomiao stepped out, pale and weak, leaning against the doorframe.

“Dr. Su, how’s my wife?” Wang Daniu rushed forward.

“She’s going to be fine. Just make sure to take good care of her in the coming days. She lost a lot of blood, so give her something nutritious to eat.” Su Miaomiao’s voice was faint, almost floating.

“Thank you! Thank you so much!” Wang Daniu, overwhelmed with gratitude, dropped to his knees, still cradling the baby, and began bowing to her repeatedly.

He and Huang Chunhua had grown up together, childhood sweethearts from villages separated only by a river. As soon as they came of age, he married her. They’d been married for nearly ten years—this was their first child.

He had nearly lost both his wife and child today.

“Enough… go in and see your wife…” Su Miaomiao didn’t even have the strength to help him up. She could only gently urge him away.

“Yes, yes—I’ll go now!” Wang Daniu hurried into the house with the baby in his arms.

The others quickly swarmed in after him, all wanting to see for themselves whether Su Miaomiao had really pulled off a miracle.

After all, it was extremely rare for a woman to survive postpartum hemorrhaging during childbirth.

Su Miaomiao didn’t care what they thought. She forced herself to head home.

But she hadn’t even made it halfway when her vision swam and her legs felt like they were stepping on clouds.

“Xiao Mei!” A familiar voice called out from afar just before everything went black—and she collapsed.

When Su Miaomiao woke up again, she found herself lying in the hay pile at home.

“Miaomiao, you’re awake? Are you okay? Are you feeling any discomfort? Should I go call a doctor?” Tang Chunlan had been by her side the entire time. The moment she saw her open her eyes, she rushed forward, eyes red from crying.

“Mom, Miaomiao is a doctor. Where are you going to find a better one?” Huo Xinyuan reminded gently.

Su Miaomiao tried to sit up, but Tang Chunlan immediately stopped her.

“Lie down! Don’t move around yet!”

“What time is it now?” Su Miaomiao glanced out the window. There was a faint light in the sky.

“It should be almost dawn. After your third brother carried you back, you were unconscious the whole time—we were all scared to death.” As Tang Chunlan spoke, her voice choked up again.

“I’m fine. Just a little too tired,” Su Miaomiao tried to make her voice sound a bit stronger.

“Just listen to yourself—saving someone and nearly sacrificing yourself in the process. Don’t do that kind of job anymore. I’ll earn work points to feed you.” During the time Su Miaomiao had been unconscious, the Huo family had already learned everything that had happened.

They knew she had exhausted herself saving someone.

Su Miaomiao couldn’t help but laugh at those words, but a wave of warmth rose in her heart.

Heaven hadn’t treated her too badly in this life.

For the first fifteen years, she had Su the Butcher by her side. And now, she had gained the whole Huo family.

“Mom, really, I’m okay. Just too tired. After some sleep, I’ll be fine,” Su Miaomiao explained.

“Don’t lie to me. When your third brother carried you in, your face was so pale—it terrified us.” Even now, Tang Chunlan felt afraid remembering it.

Su Miaomiao was just about to say something when a knock came at the door.

The Huo family members were stunned. They lived in such a desolate, avoided place—none of the villagers usually wanted anything to do with them. Who would come at this hour?

Huo Jianguo exchanged a glance with Huo Zhenbo, who immediately got up to open the door.

When he opened it, he saw Wang Daniu standing outside.

“I… I’m looking for Doctor Su…” Wang Daniu flinched a little when he met Huo Zhenbo’s eyes.

The Huo family really wasn’t ordinary.

“What do you need her for?” Huo Zhenbo didn’t step aside.

He knew his little sister had ended up like this from saving this man’s wife.

“My wife and child are safe now. I came to thank Doctor Su,” Wang Daniu said as he shoved what he was holding into Huo Zhenbo’s hands.

Huo Zhenbo frowned.

“Please tell Doctor Su thank you. When she’s better, I’ll bring my wife and child to visit her in person.” After saying this, Wang Daniu turned and quickly left.

Huo Zhenbo didn’t even have time to return the items—he could only carry them back into the room.

“Little sister, Wang Daniu brought this to thank you.” Huo Zhenbo placed the bag in front of Su Miaomiao.

Su Miaomiao glanced at it. It was filled with sweet potatoes and potatoes.

But this was likely the best a villager could offer.

Her expression softened slightly. “Keep it.”

“Little sister…” Huo Zhenbo wanted to say more, but Su Miaomiao had already guessed what he wanted to talk about and closed her eyes directly.

“I’m still a little tired. I want to sleep a bit longer.”

Since she said that, no one else disturbed her, and they all quietly left the room.

Only after everyone was gone did Su Miaomiao slowly open her eyes again.

She knew Huo Zhenbo wanted to persuade her not to return to the clinic.

But if she didn’t, her plans going forward would be completely disrupted.

So for now, she could only brush it off.

Still, Su Miaomiao really was exhausted. Perhaps it was because this body had never undergone intensive training, so the backlash after using acupuncture this time had been especially strong.

She needed a good rest.

Su Miaomiao slowly closed her eyes again.

The next morning, when Su Miaomiao woke up, the room was empty and eerily quiet outside.

She pulled a pocket watch from under her pillow—it was already close to ten.

Startled, she hurriedly sat up. Sleeping that long had helped restore a good amount of her strength.

Opening the door and stepping out, she saw a pot of congee kept warm on the stove at the door.

Su Miaomiao walked over and opened it. Inside was soft, white glutinous rice porridge.

A small bowl sat inside a pot of hot water, still steaming gently.
