Qin Laizi, who had been grinning off to the side, panicked upon hearing that they were going to find the village chief and the clan elder.
Why is Qian Chunhua reacting so differently than I expected?
In his mind, Qian Chunhua should’ve been unable to bear the gossip and fled in embarrassment.
How was she still so composed, calmly making arrangements?
Qin Laizi quickly spoke up, “Chunhua, it’s just a small matter, no need to trouble the village chief over it.”
The onlookers joined in the jeering.
“Qian Chunhua, it’s just a quarrel between husband and wife! You fight at the head of the bed and make up at the foot. Why get the village chief involved?”
Qian Chunhua swept a cold glance around her. It was the couple Zhang Qiurong and Ma Yubo, laughing and teasing Qin Laizi.
At that moment, Qian Chunhua knew her voice alone was too weak.
These people didn’t care what the truth was—they just wanted to watch a good show.
She said nothing. Instead, she pulled Xiao Ling over and shielded her behind.
Then, taking advantage of Qin Laizi’s inattention, she pulled Qingfeng to her side too.
Handing Qingfeng to Xiaoling, she said, “Take good care of your little brother.”
Xiao Ling’s eyes welled with tears, but she nodded bravely.
Seeing that his “human shield” was gone, Qin Laizi took a step back, secretly on guard.
The one who had arranged this for him had warned that the stick was “weird”—getting hit by it didn’t just hurt, it left your limbs numb too.
“Chunhua, let’s talk nicely. No need to hit. If you want to hit, wait until we’re home.” Even now, Qin Laizi didn’t forget to verbally take advantage.
“Haha, Chunhua, flirting and fighting in broad daylight, eh?” Ma Yubo said with envy.
Qin Laizi was really lucky, to have caught Qian Chunhua’s eye. She had the looks, the figure—and most importantly, two hundred taels of silver.
With that kind of money, he’d never need to work again.
Qian Chunhua glanced at Ma Yubo, mentally marking him down for later payback. But for now, she had to deal with Qin Laizi first.
“You’re talking nonsense! Chunhua’s not that kind of woman. Yesterday, she was up the mountain chopping wood alone—we all saw it!” Xu Jiang appeared behind Qin Laizi, cutting off his retreat.
A golden opportunity.
Qian Chunhua adjusted the setting on her electric stun baton to medium and swung it at Qin Laizi.
Time to handle this now—once the village chief arrives, it’ll be too late.
The current was stronger than what she’d used on Zhao Yongqiang before.
When it hit Qin Laizi, he screamed in agony and collapsed to the ground, rolling around and unable to get up.
But Qian Chunhua knew he was just being a scoundrel.
Won’t get up? Fine, I’ll keep hitting.
She jabbed him over and over.
Her strikes weren’t heavy, but they made Qin Laizi writhe in pain.
Dear heavens, he thought. Who said this only numbs your hands and feet? My whole heart feels numb!
He wailed for mercy.
“Chunhua, I was wrong! Please stop! Aiyo… aiyah…”
Qian Chunhua ignored his cries and kept jabbing—so long as she didn’t kill him, it was fine. There wouldn’t be any visible injuries anyway.
As a doctor, she knew exactly how to control the degree of force.
While Qian Chunhua was dealing with Qin Laizi, Zhao Yongqiang and Li Cuihong had already run back to the Zhao house.
“Father, Mother, hurry! Chunhua’s shacking up with Qin Laizi—she’s even got Qingfeng calling him ‘Dad’!”
Li Cuihong’s loud voice rang out before they even reached the main hall, loud enough for the whole Zhao family to hear.
“What?!” Zhao Daqing sprang to his feet. Madam Zhao also looked up in shock.
Even the sickly Zhao Qingyun, who hadn’t gone to school that day, was stunned.
Only Zhao Qingshui and Zhao Xiaoling reacted with glee, bouncing up and down.
“Let’s go! This will be fun!”
They didn’t care how tired they were from harvesting cabbages that morning—they dashed off excitedly toward the scene.
“Father, Mother, you should go see too,” Zhao Yongqiang urged. “Qian Chunhua used our family’s silver to support some other man!”
“I told you she had someone else outside! You didn’t believe me,” he added.
Zhao Daqing and Madam Zhao, half convinced and half skeptical, stood and followed.
If it turned out to be true, there was no way they’d let Qian Chunhua remarry and take the children with her.
If she wanted to marry again, fine—but the children would stay.
Even Zhao Qingyun hesitated, then followed behind his grandparents. He wanted to see for himself.
Yongqiang and Cuihong exchanged pleased looks. Everything was ready—they just needed the elders to witness the scene.
Back at the scene, Qian Chunhua was still jabbing Qin Laizi, who now looked so pitiful that no one dared to joke anymore, afraid they’d be the next to get hit.
Zhao Daqing and Madam Zhao arrived just in time to witness this brutal spectacle.
Still clueless, Zhao Yongqiang commented from the back,
“What are they doing? If they want to flirt and fight, go home! Why put on a show for us?”
He waited for Qin Laizi to chime in—but was disappointed when the man just continued wailing and didn’t say a word.
Qian Chunhua heard Zhao Yongqiang’s voice and turned to see the entire Zhao family had shown up.
Her suspicions solidified.
Fine. Let’s wait until the village chief gets here.
Unbothered, she continued disciplining Qin Laizi.
Qin Laizi’s cries were hoarse, his pleas unheard.
“That woman’s no joke—Qian Chunhua is savage,” Zhao Dafang murmured to Li Lianyan, shaking his head.
Li Lianyan nodded in agreement.
“Never would’ve guessed she’s this fierce. Good thing I’ve never seriously offended her before.”
“Best stay out of her way,” she added softly. Zhao Dafang nodded again.
Qian Chunhua hadn’t expected that her venting on Qin Laizi would serve as a public warning.
Zhao Daqing and Old Madam Zhao observed for a while, but saw nothing suspicious.
They turned their confused eyes to Zhao Yongqiang and Li Cuihong.
Unfortunately for them, both of those cowards were terrified of the baton. They didn’t dare step forward.
Even from the back, Zhao Yongqiang shouted,
“Qian Chunhua! Stop it! You’re beating your man in broad daylight—if you have to fight, do it at home!”
Qian Chunhua paused and turned to look at Zhao Yongqiang.
Ah, so you’re the mastermind.
Qian Chunhua’s pause made Qin Laizi feel a flicker of hope.
He even showed a grateful expression.
But that only made Qian Chunhua angrier.
She raised the baton again—this time not just shocking him, but beating him with it too.
Qin Laizi couldn’t even beg anymore. He just kept rolling and groaning in pain.
Zhao Yongqiang was finally scared. Something’s wrong. Why isn’t Qin Laizi playing along? Is he not keeping quiet—because he literally can’t speak?
“Out of the way! Out of the way!” shouted the voice of the village chief from the crowd. Qian Chunhua finally stopped.
With him came the Zhao clan’s elder.
As soon as the two respected figures arrived, the whole crowd fell silent.
Only Qin Laizi remained on the ground, moaning and rolling in pain.
