Lu Qingqing was furious.
When she heard them humiliating Lu Father, her anger flared uncontrollably.
Ding Xiang, who had just been slapped, was completely enraged.
In the past, Lu Qingqing might have bullied others, but she never dared to lay a hand on her, the daughter of the village doctor!
But then she recalled how fierce Lu Qingqing had been when she was with the Ning family—and now, that look in her eyes was like the icy cold of midwinter, chilling to the bone.
Holding her face, Ding Xiang glared at her with fear and hatred:
“You dare hit me?! You dare hit me… Go on, hit her back!”
Several thugs lunged forward.
Lu Qingqing grabbed two of them by the hair—one in each hand—and slammed their heads together.
Both let out cries of pain and dizziness.
Then she kicked another in the stomach.
Twisting the outstretched arm of a fourth attacker, she landed a rapid series of slaps across his face.
In the blink of an eye, the thug squad was completely wiped out.
Suddenly, there was movement behind her.
Lu Qingqing turned and was met with a leg flying toward her.
She twisted her body, grabbed it midair—
Ding Hongshi’s leg was stuck in the air, unable to kick out or pull back. He was left balancing on one leg, wobbling like a “golden rooster standing on one foot.”
“Let go! Let go!” he bellowed in rage, his face flushing red from the ridiculous posture.
Lu Qingqing had no intention of letting go.
Instead, she started spinning with his leg in hand.
Ding Hongshi was forced to hop in circles on one leg.
The sight was absurd—like a trained monkey doing tricks.
Some of the children who had been crying earlier even began to laugh.
“Lu Qingqing! Let go of my dad! Let go of my dad!” Ding Xiang shrieked like a frantic hen.
Cluck, cluck—cluck, cluck…
Old fool’s body’s not bad, Lu Qingqing thought grimly.
Let’s let him make a fool of himself a little more today.
Just then, the villagers working in the fields began returning one by one.
Lu Father and Lu Yun, from far off, saw the commotion.
They’d clearly seen Ding Hongshi attempt to kick Lu Qingqing from behind.
Immediately, they sprinted over.
“Ding Hongshi! Have you no shame? A grown man hitting a young girl?!”
Lu Qingqing gave a hard shove—Ding Hongshi flew backward and crashed into Ding Xiang.
Father and daughter tumbled to the ground, groaning.
“Lu Xingwang! Open your eyes! It’s your daughter causing trouble again!” Ding Hongshi yelled breathlessly, pointing at the chaos.
“That just means you all deserved it!” Lu Yun retorted.
He stole a glance at Lu Qingqing—
Her expression was cold, but her brows were relaxed.
She hadn’t reverted.
Lu Yun’s confidence shot back up. “My sister is the most reasonable person ever!”
What?!
Lu Qingqing? Reasonable?
The Lu family really could talk nonsense with a straight face!
“Qingqing, are you hurt?” Lu Father rushed over to check.
“I’m fine, Dad.”
Lu Qingqing’s heart warmed.
The moment they arrived, both Dad and Second Brother stood firmly on her side, not believing a word Ding Hongshi had said.
“You—Lu Xingwang! I never should’ve lent you those needles! Your whole family’s shameless!”
“Shut it with those stupid needles! Even my sewing needles are sharper! Yours are so worn down they’re round! You act like they’re treasure!” Lu Father snapped, enraged.
He remembered asking Ding Hongshi to check on his daughter-in-law the other day, and the old man had refused.
Just lending him a few needles had led to a whole load of trouble.
Fine—he could let all that slide.
But bullying his daughter?
That he couldn’t forgive!
In the original host’s memories, Lu Father had always been someone hunched over, apologizing to everyone, a useless father.
Who would’ve thought… His back was meant to be straight—he could fight and argue for his daughter too!
Lu Qingqing hadn’t expected the Lu family to accept her change so quickly.
“Lu Xingwang! Just you wait! Don’t come begging me to treat your illnesses again. If your family gets sick and dies, I won’t lift a finger!”
“Oh please! Who wants your quack skills?! You’re only good at treating cows for diarrhea! Anyone with real problems wouldn’t dare go to you. You can’t even cure them and still demand outrageous fees! You call yourself a doctor?” Lu Father fired back without hesitation.
Ding Xiang hadn’t expected Lu Father to stand up for Lu Qingqing like this.
She screamed, “Lu Qingqing almost killed Baoshuan! My father saved him!”
“Your father knows who really saved him. Baoshuan knows too. Just because you say it doesn’t make it true,” Lu Qingqing replied coldly.
By now, more and more villagers had gathered.
Many still had hoes on their shoulders, and they all wore mocking expressions.
Whoever saved Baoshuan, it couldn’t have been Lu Qingqing.
“Baoshuan, tell us—who saved you?” someone asked.
The boy, trembling, looked up with a snot-covered face.
Terrified, he glanced at Lu Qingqing.
After a long pause, he raised his hand and pointed to Ding Hongshi.
“See that, Lu Qingqing? What else do you have to say?!” Ding Xiang shrieked louder than ever.
Lu Qingqing, fed up, snapped: “Can you shut up already?! You sound like a hen after laying an egg—clucking nonstop! So annoying!”
“You—!”
Lu Qingqing rolled her eyes and turned to Baoshuan with a frosty glare.
“Baoshuan, you know what happens to kids who lie? The gods punish them.”
Baoshuan shivered violently.
At that moment, a woman pushed through the crowd and scooped him up into her arms.
“Ma! Ma! Waaaaah—” Baoshuan bawled.
“There, there, sweetheart, Mama’s here. She won’t bully you again!” The woman held a sickle in one hand and glared at Lu Qingqing with fury— like she was looking at her worst enemy.
“If you dare touch my son again, Lu Qingqing, I’ll take this sickle and cut you down!”
Lu Yun stepped in front of Lu Qingqing.
“Sister Lin, ask your son properly when you’re home. Don’t just listen to what these black-hearted people say!”
Ding Xiang screamed, “Who are you calling black-hearted?! Everyone knows what kind of person Lu Qingqing is—it was her who hurt someone!”
“Well I say it was you who did it! Ugly face, uglier heart!”
“Lu Yun, you—!”
“Enough! I’m taking my son home!” Sister Lin interrupted.
She didn’t believe Lu Qingqing could’ve saved anyone— but she also didn’t want to admit Ding Hongshi had done it either.
Because his fees were too high, and her family had no money.
All she wanted now was to take her son and leave.
Ding Xiang fumed, gritting her teeth.
Lu Qingqing frowned too.
Suddenly, a timid girl’s voice cut through the crowd:
“I saw it.”
“It was Lu Qingqing who saved him.”
