Chapter 15: Transformation
That night, the two naturally shared a bed. When Qin Wen came out of the bathroom, Chi Han had already finished his cold shower and was sitting on the bed fiddling with his phone.
Qin Wen felt as if his feet were nailed to the ground. What should he do… Although he was prepared to muddle through the night, his mindset was completely different now. Before, he thought they were getting divorced, and at worst, he would be despised by Chi Han for one night. But then, out of nowhere, Chi Han didn’t sign the divorce papers and even performed a temporary marking after learning about his pheromone disorder. Everything just fell into place, like a dream… Qin Wen was momentarily dazed, and Chi Han had already lifted the quilt, ready to get down, asking, “No energy?”
Qin Wen lowered his head, quickly walked to the bed, and then lay down stiffly.
He had energy, more than he had felt in a long time. The mark left by the top-level Alpha on his gland was like a fountain of vitality. Just as the forums said, no medicine could compare to the comfort of one’s own Alpha.
Chi Han stared at Qin Wen for a few seconds, tucked him in, and then turned off the bedside lamp without a word, finally lying down.
There was still a clear boundary between them, one that Qin Wen would never have dared to cross before. But tonight was different. After Chi Han’s breathing became steady, Qin Wen turned over, using the moonlight to clearly see Chi Han’s flawless profile. The man’s hair had grown a bit, with a few strands sticking out from behind his ears, tightly clinging to his face. To this day, Qin Wen still felt his heart flutter for this person.
He couldn’t resist, slowly reaching out a hand, tracing Chi Han’s outline from a palm’s distance away, over and over, until sleepiness swept over him. Only then did he shrink back under the covers, enjoying a rare good night’s sleep.
What Qin Wen didn’t know was that in the darkness, Chi Han suddenly opened his eyes, his usually cold and misty pupils now clear as glass.
At three in the morning, Chi Han was still messaging the doctor, detailing Qin Wen’s specific symptoms.
[Yes, he refuses to see a doctor and shows great aversion to hospitals, but he still relies on me.] Chi Han typed.
The reply came quickly: [This is a common symptom of pheromone disorder. The good thing is that Mr. Qin doesn’t reject you. The worst case is when someone resists all pheromone sources, which is almost a death sentence. But the bad thing is that Mr. Qin has suffered both mentally and physically. You must be patient and follow his wishes for now. Don’t force him to the hospital, or it will cause a strong rebellious reaction. As always, an Alpha’s presence is crucial for an Omega.]
Chi Han put away his phone, gently stroking the back of Qin Wen’s hand, feeling a pang in his heart.
The next morning, Old Master Chi went hiking with friends. By the time Chi Han woke up, he was long gone. Following his routine, Chi Han jogged along the street for an hour. When he returned, the house staff were already busy.
Qin Wen woke up after Chi Han left. The cedar scent in the room had faded, and his usual morning nausea was still there, but much better. Normally, he would have to vomit until he brought up bile, but today, after half an hour wrapped in the quilt, it wasn’t so bad. Qin Wen reached for the phone on the bedside table and dialed the internal line.
The old house was large, the ancestral home of the Chi family, established over three hundred years and renovated more than a dozen times, expanded several times. With Old Master Chi’s age and declining health, phones were installed in every room, with staff on duty at all times.
“Bring up a bowl of millet porridge,” Qin Wen’s voice was hoarse.
There was silence on the other end for a few minutes, then a sharp voice, “Is this Mr. Qin?”
Qin Wen sensed hostility, “It’s me.”
The voice belonged to a woman, who chuckled, “I’m really sorry, Mr. Qin. The old master left early today, and the kitchen didn’t prepare breakfast.”
Nonsense. With Chi Han and Qin Wen both here, how could breakfast not be prepared? The tone was dismissive and disdainful, clearly not wanting to deal with Qin Wen. This outcome was also due to Chi Han’s previously cold attitude, a bunch of opportunistic people.
But no matter how opportunistic, they had no right to humiliate Qin Wen.
Warmth surged from behind, like sunlight on cedar trees. Qin Wen, who had been lying on the bed, was suddenly lifted by Chi Han with ease. The man patted his back with one hand and took the phone with the other, coldly instructing, “Millet porridge, bring it up in three minutes.”
The warmth of Chi Han’s palm made Qin Wen feel much better. He took a deep breath, catching a hint of sweat, but surprisingly didn’t mind, “Went for a run?”
“Yeah,” Chi Han replied, “Besides millet porridge, what else do you want to eat?”
“Just the millet porridge.” Qin Wen focused on Chi Han’s heartbeat, steady and without any hint of disdain or intense emotion, indicating he didn’t mind holding or comforting him.
This person was truly changing bit by bit.
Before long, there was a gentle knock on the door, and Chi Han said in a deep voice, “Come in.”
It was a young maid in her early twenties. Chi Han remembered her, not because of her appearance, but because he had a photographic memory. Yesterday, when he carried Qin Wen upstairs, this woman had excitedly called out “Mr. Chi,” but today she was indifferent to Qin Wen, claiming there was no breakfast.
The millet porridge was mushy, clearly cooked for a long time. Chi Han took it without a word. His pheromones were cold, and the hot porridge quickly cooled down. “Eat it like this.” Chi Han noticed Qin Wen wanted to freshen up, but he was weak, and he had already rinsed his mouth. He scooped some porridge and brought it to Qin Wen’s lips, “Try it.”
Qin Wen took a bite, chewing slowly. The pheromones in the air suddenly sharpened, indicating Chi Han was in a bad mood.
The cedar scent faded, replaced by a biting wind.
The maid hadn’t left. She was a Beta, and although not as sensitive to pheromones as Alphas and Omegas, the sudden drop in temperature and the chilling presence brushing against her scalp and cheeks felt like a deadly attack was imminent. Her fear was purely instinctual.
“I’m sorry!” The maid bowed deeply, her voice intense, as if chased by a beast, “Mr. Qin, I’m sorry!”
Qin Wen knew at first glance that she liked Chi Han.
“Mr. Qin, I’m really sorry!” The abyss of terror the maid faced was something Qin Wen couldn’t feel, wrapped in Chi Han’s pheromones, gentle and soothing. The maid’s face grew increasingly pale, the pheromone pressure from Chi Han so intense it affected even a dull Beta.
“That’s enough,” Qin Wen said softly.
In the sunlight, Chi Han’s eyelashes were long. He stirred the porridge in the bowl, his face showing no emotion, “Okay.”
Chi Han left the bedroom, the maid stumbling after him, the butler waiting outside.
“Get rid of her,” Chi Han said coldly.
The maid didn’t have time to cry out before losing consciousness under the fierce pheromone attack.
