“It’s possible!” Xu Shuying said.
“Do you really think so?” Xu Wanting stared at her intently.
“Well…” Xu Shuying hesitated, unable to speak.
Xu Wanting looked at her for a moment, then carefully examined the test report. Suddenly, she said, “There’s another test report from two months ago!”
“Where is it?”
“It’s in my room. Come with me!” Xu Wanting immediately insisted.
“Oh! But, big sister, I still need to go back to the hospital!” Xu Shuying didn’t want to waste time on this matter.
But Xu Wanting stared at her. “You come home with me first!”
Xu Shuying hesitated. “Sis, anything could happen with Xu Mo! He’s so unhealthy that having excessive heavy metals is normal for him! And his levels aren’t particularly severe. With some adjustments, it’ll be diluted. It won’t affect his health!”
Hearing her words, Xu Wanting felt a sense of desolation. She replied coldly, “I need to figure out why this happened. I didn’t ask you to tell me it’s normal! Xu Shuying, let me tell you, no matter what, he’s still our biological brother!”
Seeing Xu Wanting angry, Xu Shuying hurriedly said, “But I still have things to attend to! I don’t have time!”
“I’ll come to the hospital to find you later then!” Xu Wanting said.
“Okay, okay! I’ll go back to the hospital first, and you can come later!” Xu Shuying agreed, not wanting to waste too much time on this matter.
Xu Wanting felt desolate in her heart but didn’t want to say more. She immediately went home to get another medical record. Without hesitation, she quickly arrived at the hospital where Xu Shuying was, handing over the medical record.
Xu Shuying took a quick glance at the medical record and shrugged. “This one’s a bit heavier, but it’s still mild. With careful adjustment, it’ll be fine! Xu Mo hasn’t been home this month, so he’s probably already gone through some treatment!”
“Two months ago?” Xu Wanting asked.
“It looks like it’s from two months ago! I don’t know what he ate to get palladium poisoning. The toxicity of this stuff is quite scary! But as long as it’s mild, it’s fine!” Xu Shuying explained nonchalantly.
Xu Wanting held the two medical records, comparing them silently.
“Shuying, I know what you’re thinking, but tell me, did he ingest this himself? I just checked what palladium actually is. Tell me, did he eat it on his own?” Xu Wanting stared at Xu Shuying, her anger evident in every word.
Xu Shuying furrowed her brow. “If he didn’t ingest it, how else would he get palladium poisoning? This type of poisoning is very rare. Generally, it doesn’t happen unless it’s ingested. I even studied palladium before, experimenting with some palladium powder…”
Suddenly, Xu Shuying stopped herself, not continuing her sentence.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Wanting stared at her.
Xu Shuying seemed to remember something, her expression shifting slightly. Hastily, she picked up the two medical records and compared them.
In the first record, the blood test results showed a more significant indication of palladium poisoning, while in the second, it had decreased significantly, only slightly above the limit.
Xu Shuying frowned, her expression turning serious.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Wanting pressed when Xu Shuying remained silent.
After a moment of contemplation, Xu Shuying sighed. “I remember last year around mid-year, I had a small vial of palladium powder at home, it was black and there wasn’t much left.”
Xu Wanting’s body tensed.
“But that palladium powder was already very scarce, hardly enough to cause poisoning. Later, Third Sister came over and found it intriguing, so I gave it to her!” Xu Shuying recalled.
“You gave it to her?” Xu Wanting couldn’t contain her shock.
Xu Shuying nodded. “I reckon Third Sister misplaced it, and then Xu Mo found it and accidentally ingested it! But it’s alright, his poisoning is very mild. With proper care, he’ll be fine.”
Xu Wanting fell silent, her breath quickening as she stared tightly at the medical records in her hand.
During this time, Xu Mo’s transformation had been profound, catching everyone off guard.
His departure from home had been resolute, even aggressive, a stark departure from his previous self. He had even cursed them to die sooner rather than later.
Including her, many struggled to come to terms with this change, leaving even Xie Bingyan and others unable to react.
But now, was there a reason behind this transformation?
If this palladium poisoning was indeed accidentally ingested by him, will he continue to eat in the future?
Or…
Was it not accidentally ingested by him, but someone secretly made him ingest it?
Thinking about this, Xu Wanting felt a chill run down her spine.
Regardless of the reason, palladium poisoning was a real issue.
“Shuying, what was Xu Mo like at home before?” Xu Wanting asked.
“Xu Mo at home?” Xu Shuying paused, then chuckled, “Why are you asking about that, Sister? Don’t you already know?”
“I want to hear it from you,” Xu Wanting frowned.
“Well, Xu Mo at home…” Xu Shuying pondered for a moment before speaking, “He was quite timid and weak, also a bit restrained. It seemed like he couldn’t loosen up. But sometimes, he could be clingy, very clingy. Sister, you don’t know, I’ve caught him sneaking into my hospital many times! Didn’t you say he also visited your company to bother you? I caught him once before, but he managed to escape in the end!”
Xu Wanting nodded. “But what about now?”
Xu Shuying paused, remaining silent for a moment.
“How do you feel now?” Xu Wanting pressed.
“To be honest, I was surprised when he became the top scorer in the college entrance examination! It was unexpected. But the things he said to the reporters and media were too malicious!” Xu Shuying remarked. “It’s normal for Dad and Mom to be angry; anyone would find those words malicious! I don’t understand why he said such things!”
“Well, if…” Xu Wanting sniffled. “I mean, if the palladium poisoning wasn’t accidental, if someone secretly made him ingest it, what do you think?”
Xu Shuying was taken aback, her eyes widening in shock. “Sis, how could you even think like that? Who would make him ingest that?”
“Just tell me, is it possible? Where did that bottle of palladium go?” Xu Wanting stared at her, almost shouting.
Xu Shuying froze, her eyes wide.
“That, that’s impossible! Who would make him ingest it for what reason? It could be fatal! If ingested in large quantities, he could be poisoned to death!”
“Poisoned to death?” Xu Wanting stared at her.
“Definitely! And the death would be extremely painful! This heavy metal is highly toxic!” Xu Shuying hastily replied, looking panicked. “If someone poisoned Xu Mo… If someone did poison him, then…”
“Someone wants to poison him!” Xu Wanting said what she had been thinking.
Xu Shuying was stunned.
“Who would poison him? Why would anyone do that to him? I don’t believe it. I think he ingested it himself!” Xu Shuying said.
Xu Wanting fell silent.
In a moment, she couldn’t accept it either.
If someone were indeed trying to poison Xu Mo, wanting to kill him, it was just too horrifying.
Horrifying to the point of sending shivers down one’s spine.
Xu Mo had suffered so much in the Xu family, having nothing to eat, nothing to wear, falsely accused, punished, ostracized, and now, possibly being poisoned to death… It was too dark, too terrifying.
How could people’s hearts be so terrifying?
Even Xu Wanting found it unbearable to think about.
Did Xu Mo know about these things?
Does he know he’s poisoned with palladium?
Xu Wanting wasn’t sure.
“Manni took the palladium! If someone were poisoning Xu Mo, then Manni would be the prime suspect, but others could also be involved, including Fourth Sister Xu Pandi, Mom Xie Bingyan, Dad Xu Deming… and…”
Xu Wanting didn’t say the last name, feeling it was unlikely.
After all, he was fine at home, so there was no reason to poison Xu Mo.
Perhaps… it was an accident after all.
“Sis, don’t jump to conclusions! It’s definitely Xu Mo accidentally ingesting it! Who would poison him?” Xu Shuying reassured. “Besides, Xu Mo is fine now. The levels of heavy metals in his blood have decreased, and with further care, he’ll be okay.”
“You’re still a suspect!” Xu Wanting turned to her.
Xu Shuying was startled. “Sis, don’t just throw accusations around! Even though I don’t like him, I wouldn’t do something like that! If you suspect me, then you might as well suspect Third Sister! She actually hates Xu Mo even more!”
Xu Wanting naturally knew that Xu Manni disliked Xu Mo the most, so at the moment, Xu Manni was the prime suspect.
However, before confirming whether someone had poisoned him, she needed to first determine if Xu Mo had ingested it accidentally. If it was accidental ingestion, then it wasn’t a big deal.
And if it’s not!
And if indeed someone did poison him… wanting to kill him, then it’s just…
Xu Wanting felt a chilling sensation coursing through her body, as if her blood was freezing solid.
The darkness and horror of human nature were unbearable for her!
With this in mind, Xu Wanting picked up the medical records and turned to leave.
“Xuehui, come over! Let’s go see Xu Mo and clarify some things!” She made a call to Xu Xuehui!
