Chapter 140: A Wild Fairy Fengya Has Appeared
Seeing that Ling Jue was in a bad mood, Ye Wenxin read the books obediently. They did some shopping once they arrived at the town and eventually reached the Azure Wings Sect just before evening.
Due to the special occasion, the Azure Wings Sect had increased the gatekeepers to twelve people. Seeing Ye Wenxin and Ling Jue appear, they all lined up in a uniform row, making for a spectacular sight.
“Teacher Ling.”
“Junior Sister Ye.”
Among the group, there was Senior Brother Lu, the gatekeeper Ye Wenxin was quite familiar with, but she did not recognize the others at all, so she did not look at them much.
Ling Jue maintained the bearing of a modest young master, revered by men and liked by women. Observing this scene, Ye Wenxin felt that she had been living in an illusion these past several days.
“Big Brother Ling, I’ll head back to the dormitory first.” Ye Wenxin preserved a teacher-student distance with Ling Jue, not wanting to cause any conflict with Ling Jue’s stans at this crucial moment of the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament.
“Alright, go on.” Ling Jue did not urge her to stay, and the two stepped through their corresponding gates, one going to the Alchemy Workshop, while the other returned to the outer disciple living quarters.
The road was as peaceful as always, and occasionally people who knew Ye Wenxin would call out a greeting when they saw her.
“Ye Wenxin?”
Halfway down the road, Ye Wenxin saw her roommate, Baili Mu.
Ever since moving into the Alchemy Workshop, she had rarely spoken with Baili Mu, and seeing her now, Ye Wenxin was even a little happy.
“Baili Mu?”
“When did you get back?”
“Just now. I’m planning on heading back to the dormitory.” After not seeing each other for a few months, Baili Mu’s cultivation had improved a lot, and she had become much friendlier.
“I see. No wonder I haven’t heard anything. How was it? Have you passed as a Beginner Alchemist during this journey down the mountain?” Baili Mu began to ask about her number two topic of interest, eliciting an awkward grin from Ye Wenxin, who did not know how she should explain that she was actually already a Beginner Alchemist before that.
After a brief thought, Ye Wenxin ended up nodding in affirmation.
“Mm, I passed.”
“What was the exam like? Was it hard?” Baili Mu had more questions. She was now a member of the Alchemy Workshop and thus would naturally have an interest in the future prospects for Alchemists.
Ye Wenxin took a moment to recall the contents of the Beginner Alchemist assessment she had seen during the exam and vaguely gave a general idea.
Baili Mu earnestly memorized what Ye Wenxin was saying, with a touch of respect for Ye Wenxin in her eyes. “Not to mention the written exam, you even refined the pills perfectly in such a short time. You’re too amazing already, Ye Wenxin.”
Her tone was unlike the pleasantries of others, and no matter what content was talked about, Baili Mu understood some and was very easy to talk to. They continued walking along the road, their shadows stretching long.
As they drew closer and closer to the living quarters, more and more familiar faces showed up.
“Big Sister, you’re back.”
“Big Sister, did you have fun down the mountain?”
The little brothers surrounded Ye Wenxin, inquiring about what she had seen and heard on her journey down the mountain. For some unknown reason, it surprisingly evoked a sense of belonging in Ye Wenxin, like coming home.
Perhaps after this long, she had developed a smidgen of dependence on the Azure Wings Sect.
But it could only be counted as a smidgen, as she still lacked a sense of security in this place.
Ye Wenxin exchanged some words with the little brothers and then quickly made them leave. Unexpectedly, Baili Mu did not leave. She had been standing there, waiting for her.
“You could’ve just gone ahead of me.”
“I wanted to listen a little more.” Baili Mu, somewhat embarrassed, explained her reason for staying. Ye Wenxin did not care at all, because she knew as well as anyone that stepping onto the road of cultivation meant severing worldly ties.
Although it did not mean that cultivators disowned their families, in a certain sense, it was much crueler. As cultivators, they could easily live for hundreds of years. They would witness their family members leaving one by one while they became solitary.
What profound loneliness and solitude that was, but at the same time, it was glory that would last for generations.
As long as there was a cultivator in the family, it would surely bring honor to their ancestors.
It was both a cruel and honorable place to be.
Ye Wenxin looked at Baili Mu in front of her, a bit curious why she had chosen to become a cultivator.
“Speaking of which, why did you want to become a cultivator, Baili Mu?”
Her first impression of Baili Mu was of a serious, overly conservative person, but as they got along, she found that Baili Mu was actually just a normal girl.
She would be interested in new and interesting things, like gossip, and when she saw an unfair situation, she would lend a helping hand. This was a typical template for immortal sect disciples, but if Baili Mu did not come from an influential clan of astrologers, perhaps Ye Wenxin would not have asked this question.
However, Baili Mu’s special status made Ye Wenxin curious about these aristocratic children, who had their own benefits to reap yet chose to seek instruction from others.
“Everyone in the family wanted me to, so I did.” Baili Mu’s answer was very ordinary, so ordinary that it seemed natural. Yet Ye Wenxin suddenly felt a sense of closeness. Fortunately, not everyone came to the Azure Wings Sect with grand ambitions.
“What about you? Why did you come here?” Seeing Ye Wenxin’s unchanging expression, Baili Mu similarly asked Ye Wenxin her reason for coming to the Azure Wings Sect.
Ye Wenxin grinned and explained, “I came to the Azure Wings Sect for one person.”
Baili Mu inquired even more curiously, “Could it be for Teacher Ling?”
Right at this moment, the two arrived at their dorm room’s door. Ye Wenxin had intended to answer, yet she suddenly gave a meaningful glance towards the door.
“What’s the matter? Don’t you recognize your own dorm room anymore?” Seeing Ye Wenxin stop before her dorm room, she subconsciously took a step forward, intending to push the door open, but felt Ye Wenxin holding her back.
“Baili Mu, can you go take a walk nearby and come back later?” There was a bit of frustration in Ye Wenxin’s tone. She never expected her own mouth would be so effective; just as she thought of someone, that person quietly appeared.
Baili Mu was quite hesitant, but looking at the seriousness in Ye Wenxin’s eyes, she had to nod and agree, “Alright. I’ll go take a walk around. Call me when you’re done with your talk.”
Baili Mu was fairly dissatisfied, but this was not the first time Ye Wenxin had done this, so she had to agree.
Ye Wenxin heaved a sigh of relief, then took out a bottle of third-grade Qi Refining Pills from her bag of holding, saying, “Here, take this.”
One look at the quality of those pills, and Baili Mu did not dare to accept them. She kept refusing for a while until she could no longer resist Ye Wenxin’s enthusiasm and ran off.
Now that she was the only one left at the door, Ye Wenxin sighed, took a step forward, and opened it.
A woman sat inside, and the moment she noticed Ye Wenxin, she slowly opened her eyes.
The woman was dressed in robes as white as snow. She merely met Ye Wenxin’s gaze and did not make any special movements, yet a kind of spiritual energy permeated from her bones, making her appear as beautiful as a fairy untouched by the mundane world.
But this woman, despite her beauty, had eyes that were too indifferent.
She was so indifferent, without any joy, anger, sorrow, or pleasure, as if nothing in this world could appear within her orbs. Ye Wenxin walked up to the woman, her lips quirking up in a bitter smile.
“Why are you here?” This person was Fairy Fengya.
Fairy Fengya was Ye Wenxin’s reason for coming to the Azure Wings Sect, but she did not expect that this Fairy Fengya would be so quick to find out the news of her return and even ran over to her dorm to wait for her.
If she had not sensed the peculiarity within the room earlier, she would probably be hearing Baili Mu shrieking wildly right now. Fairy Fengya was the immortal sects’ idol, and naturally Baili Mu’s too.
Ye Wenxin was glad that the most tragic scene did not happen. She took another step closer, close enough for her figure to be reflected in Fairy Fengya’s eyes, and then dropped down.
“This Master has come to see you.” Fairy Fengya opened her mouth to speak, sat up straight, and waved her sleeves. A fragrance washed over, smelling very pleasant.
It had not been obvious in the cavern or the waterfall cave, but in an enclosed space like this, that scent was beyond intense.
Ye Wenxin glanced at her suspiciously a few times, and no matter how she looked, she felt there was no way that Fairy Fengya, this martial maniac, would do something as girly as taking a flower bath.
“Wenxin, what are you doing?” Looking at Ye Wenxin’s gaze, Fairy Fengya’s voice remained indifferent, but that voice was neither alienating nor close.
Just like a lotus flower, one could only admire from afar and could not be disrespectful.
“Nothing. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Master, so I wanted to look, lest I forget what Master even looks like next time,” responded Ye Wenxin with a grin. She sat on the chair by the table with her chin propped up as she carefully studied Fairy Fengya.
With her pretty little face, her eyebrows and eyes, her lips, and her mannerisms, Ye Wenxin mentally used herself as a reference to compare and increasingly felt that, as a woman, she had completely lost.
This was indeed the world’s number-one beauty. What was terrifying was that she wore no makeup, yet her natural beauty was already so stunning. Ye Wenxin could not help but wonder how much more terrifying Fairy Fengya would be when she dressed up.
Ye Wenxin sighed continuously and then felt that delicate, jade hand reaching out to her.
The hand was very cold yet very pleasant, but Ye Wenxin still felt slightly mystified at being touched. She did not remember Fairy Fengya being this cordial. In her memories, Fairy Fengya’s dictionary only had the options cultivate and closed-door training. Coming to visit her so intimately and even holding her hand, could it be…
“Master, I’m still a child.” Ye Wenxin cautiously resisted. Although she could not counter the Nine Tribulations Exorcising Curse, she would never sacrifice her body in exchange for the freedom to survive.
Yet Fairy Fengya completely ignored the small theater playing in Ye Wenxin’s mind, examined the essence in Ye Wenxin’s body, and continued, “You’ve already cultivated the First Tribulation.”
Ye Wenxin listened in silence, feeling speechless. She knew that Fairy Fengya was such a serious person that it made people want to kick her a few times. However, Ye Wenxin could not kick her, and being defeated with just one palm was the shame of a lifetime.
