“Oh, it’s huge!”
Even with some distance and the snow obscuring their vision, it was clear that the thing was easily more than twice Mika’s height.
Shaped like a snowman but without any facial expression, its stubby limbs were also made of snow. Its entire body was pure white—if it escaped into the snowy mountains, they’d never find it again.
Dada took off from Mika’s shoulder, and she raised her rake, ready to fight.
“Dada, what should we do?”
“Just keep chipping away at the snow! Mika and Gatt, use your weapons. Zurah, fire magic! We shouldn’t have to worry about avalanches here, but stay alert!”
“Got it!”
“Understood!”
“No problem!”
They all responded in unison, and Gatt was the first to charge at the snowman.
The snowman seemed fully aware of them, trudging forward with heavy thuds, kicking up snow with each step. Its movements were sluggish, and Gatt’s first strike easily gouged out part of its leg.
“It’s massive…”
Though the attack landed, there was no relief in Gatt’s voice.
He had only managed to shave off a tiny portion of the snowman’s enormous leg. There was no visible sign of damage at all.
The snowman slowly raised its injured leg, trying to stomp on Gatt, but he was already gone, circling behind to deliver a second strike. At the same time, Mika swung her rake down from the front.
“Haaah!”
With a fierce yell, Mika’s rake tore a chunk of snow from the snowman’s body.
Zurah, staff in hand, followed up by casting a basic fire spell at the spot Mika had struck.
Low-tier magic had limited range and power, so Zurah had to move closer—but the cold was slowing her down.
The moment the snowman saw the fire magic, it ignored Mika and Gatt and began lumbering toward Zurah instead.
Gatt chased after it from behind, steadily hacking away at its legs.
Meanwhile, Dada flew around the snowman, searching for any weak points.
Suddenly, the snowman seemed to notice Dada. It stopped, then abruptly punched a nearby tree.
A chunk of its arm broke off, but at the same time, a heavy pile of snow cascaded down from the branches, nearly burying Dada.
“Dada!”
“I’m fine!”
The snowman’s movements were slow, and they weren’t taking much damage, but no matter how much they chipped away, its sheer mass didn’t seem to decrease.
“…Maybe a shovel would’ve been better than a rake,” Mika muttered under her breath as they all worked to peel away layers of snow.
Gatt leaped in from behind while Mika and Zurah focused on the front, relentlessly attacking one of the snowman’s leg joints.
Occasionally, the snowman swung its arms, trying to catch Dada, or stomped its feet in an attempt to crush Zurah and Gatt. But finally, the leg joint had been whittled down enough—unable to support its weight, the limb detached, and the snowman tilted before collapsing with a heavy thud.
“Alright! Now we just have to—”
Just as Gatt raised his sword, preparing to climb onto the snowman’s body—
“No! Gatt, get back!!”
Almost simultaneously with Dada’s warning, the fallen snowman violently shook off the snow and heaved itself back up.
Gatt barely managed to leap away in time.
Looking closely, they saw that the leg they had severed earlier had reattached itself.
But now, the once four-meter-tall giant had shrunk by about fifty centimeters—the length of the leg they’d cut off. Its overall volume seemed smaller, as if they had carved a 3.5-meter snowman out of the original four-meter one.
“What’s going on?!”
Mika’s voice was swallowed by the snow.
