Release the Female Lead, Leave Her to Me
Release the Female Lead Ch. 147

Chapter 147: The Tool, Ye Wenxin

After her conversation with Su Mei earlier, Ye Wenxin was more certain that Su Mei wanted to annex her Cozy Gang. No, Su Mei wanted to have her.

“Xiangsi, this Su Mei is very dangerous. She’s grasped my secret, so I can’t openly confront her. If you want to save your worthless brother, you’ll have to rely on yourself.” Ye Wenxin briefly considered her acquaintance with Gu Aotian and Gu Xiangsi. Since she had already robbed everything that Gu Aotian should have gotten, she at least would not let Gu Aotian end up too miserably.

However, both parties had the Iceborn Constitution.

Revealing it would only lead to mutual destruction, so Su Mei could not start something with her, but she would also not give up on such a fine chance.

A cold gleam flashed in Ye Wenxin’s eyes. Suddenly, she desired to experience the exhilaration of a dark and stormy night, perfect for killing.

She could kill now, put the Ten Great Immortal Sects in chaos, and nobody would know it was the great Demon Lord’s doing. But this would only address the symptoms, not the root cause. Even if she killed Su Mei, there would be a second, then a third Su Mei-like person appearing.

Humans had greedy and endless desires. Ye Wenxin had to at least make Gu Aotian return to his original state and not let his sister Gu Xiangsi fret over this matter every day.

“I understand,” sighed Gu Xiangsi, seeming a bit disappointed.

She retained a kind of dependence on Ye Wenxin, and this dependence would hinder Gu Xiangsi’s progress. Ye Wenxin remembered what Su Mei had said back then and suddenly felt it had some truth.

Gu Xiangsi belonged to the category of people who must be whipped to advance. Ye Wenxin could not solve this matter for her.

“I have faith that you can handle this.” Even though Ye Wenxin chose to watch from the sidelines, she still encouraged Gu Xiangsi.

Gu Xiangsi seemed to have no self-confidence, her pretty orbs revealing some sullenness, but she implored no further. It looked like she had made up her mind to persevere with her own ideas.

Ye Wenxin did not tell her the last sentence; if Gu Xiangsi was unable to solve it, then Ye Wenxin would help her deal with everything that followed. But Ye Wenxin could not say it; once she said it, Gu Xiangsi’s heart would not remain tense.

After a while, Gu Xiangsi returned to her original bubbly and carefree self and pulled out a dagger from her bag of holding.

“By the way, Sis, this is for you.”

“A dagger?” Ye Wenxin eyed the expensive-looking dagger, thought back to the twin axes divine weapons Gu Xiangsi wielded earlier, and suddenly felt Gu Xiangsi had flourished.

“I begged Master for a long time until I got it. I wanted to give it to you before, but there was never any time, and now that it’s almost the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament, I trust you can make use of it.” It was a mystic-level weapon with a nondescript appearance that was light as a feather, yet cut through iron like mud; one could imagine the pleasure of killing people with this dagger.

“Your master treats you so well.”

“Yeah, I feel that too…and like me, Master doesn’t think men are all that great either.” Gu Xiangsi began to gleefully talk about the Hall of Teaching’s elder, Jin Xiaoqin (lit. Gold Little Zither).

As she listened to the story of the teacher and disciple, Ye Wenxin sincerely felt Gu Xiangsi had pretty good luck. Unlike her own few masters, it seemed…

“Oh right, Sis, you have to do your best in this time’s grand tournament. My Master said that as long as you’re in the top fifty, she’ll make an exception and take you in as a true disciple.” Seeing Ye Wenxin’s eyes dimming, Gu Xiangsi added, her gaze filled with anticipation.

Every Azure Wings Sect disciple dreamed of becoming a true disciple, but it was also an extravagant thing. Ye Wenxin wondered how long Gu Xiangsi had to beg before her master agreed.

But she understood that Gu Xiangsi was sincerely good to her.

Just because of several nights’ favor, Gu Xiangsi had regarded her as a genuine member of her family.

“Sis, don’t think too much about it. I just…wanted to spend more time with you. If Brother truly falls out with me, I only have you left.” Gu Xiangsi continued to explain, noticing Ye Wenxin’s discomfort. She had wanted to relax, but got choked up with emotions in the end.

“It’s truly been hard on you, thinking about so many things alone.” Ye Wenxin’s heart softened. She kept feeling that due to her advancing age, she found herself particularly prone to being emotionally moved.

Although they were all a group of little girls, some of their words evoked a certain willingness to go against the whole world within her. Each had a very simple desire, yet that kind of feeling was too heavy for Ye Wenxin.

She should be a passerby, not the focus of their lives.

“But I can’t accept your kindness. I have my own chosen path. However, I promise that I will talk more with you when I have the time,” rejected Ye Wenxin. She was tentatively regarded as Fairy Fengya’s true disciple, and even though having another master did not matter much, she could not help feeling that it would turn as exciting as a clandestine love affair.

After chewing it over, she still dared not to do such a thing.

Though she really wanted to know whether Fairy Fengya would be shaken at all after finding out she had changed masters.

Ye Wenxin’s words made Gu Xiangsi smile instead. Ye Wenxin was a little baffled, and then she heard Gu Xiangsi continue to say, “Master is truly too amazing! You really refused my invitation!”

“……”

For some unknown reason, Gu Xiangsi’s exclamation erased Ye Wenxin’s emotional stirrings, but she could tell that Gu Xiangsi was happy in the Hall of Teaching.

And that was enough.

The two continued to chat for a while until someone caused another disturbance, calling Gu Xiangsi back on duty.

Ye Wenxin stood up, looked at today’s bright and beautiful sun, and counted the people she had met recently.

She had seen Fairy Fengya and Huang Hanyan, Gu Aotian, Su Mei, and Gu Xiangsi as well; in other words, out of all the people she knew at the Azure Wings Sect, probably only Long Qing’er had not shown up.

Ye Wenxin heard that Long Qing’er had come out of closed-door training last week with quite the advancement in her cultivation, but it seemed that in the three days Ye Wenxin had been back, there was no sign of Long Qing’er at all.

Ye Wenxin also caught hearsay that, due to Eldest Princess Long Qingyue’s arrival, Long Qing’er was busy preparing the Eldest Princess’s residence, doing everything herself.

Thinking that she had not seen her best friend in so long, Ye Wenxin’s mood was very complicated.

She wanted her best friend to recognize her so they could make fun of the weird things they had encountered this past year. However, this lacked entertainment.

Perhaps she should let her best friend discover her existence instead of actively jumping out to announce who she was.

The general idea emerged in Ye Wenxin’s mind. Ye Wenxin’s lips quirked subtly, followed by an involuntary change in her mood. She hummed a little tune and continued to wander down the road.

Daylight quietly receded, and night fell. Ye Wenxin ate at the dining hall with Baili Mu before heading back to the dormitory.

The atmosphere was quite relaxed as the two roommates chatted about the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament. Baili Mu seemed to have forgotten about the existence of ‘Ye Liangchen’, having a very cheerful and lighthearted chat with Ye Wenxin.

Lately, everything was going fine. Ye Wenxin gained a lot of spirit stones. She was flushed with success, and was naturally in an extremely good mood. She had completely forgotten about the emotional moment with Gu Xiangsi.

“Oh, right, I suddenly remembered something. Senior Sister Long sent someone to find you.” As they were walking, Baili Mu saw a familiar Secret Guard in the distance, suddenly halted her steps, and said this to Ye Wenxin.

That Secret Guard was naturally Long Qing’er’s, and only Long Qing’er’s subordinates dared to dress like this at the Azure Wings Sect without getting killed. Ye Wenxin was stunned at first, and instantly put two and two together.

Maybe Long Qing’er had not forgotten her friend but had sought her out, and it just so happened that Ye Wenxin had not returned yet.

“Miss Wenxin, Her Highness has sent me…” Sure enough, that Secret Guard immediately bowed respectfully upon seeing Ye Wenxin, but before they finished speaking, the dorm room door abruptly opened.

Long Qing’er was sitting inside, all smiles, waving her hand beckoningly at Ye Wenxin. Baili Mu was frightened by Long Qing’er’s appearance and the terrifying aura she displayed, but thinking that this was her dorm room, she intended to go in, yet was blocked by a Secret Guard.

Ye Wenxin cautiously walked in, the door abruptly closing behind her, followed by Ye Wenxin’s shout from beyond.

“Senior Sister Long, you…calm down a little…”

The Secret Guard, who was unfamiliar yet unsurprised by this scene, naturally made an inviting gesture and said to Baili Mu, “Miss Baili, can you stay at another place tonight?”

Baili Mu smiled wryly and could only nod in assent. She wished, in passing, that Ye Wenxin could live to see the sun shine tomorrow.

……

It was messy in the room. Ye Wenxin, already pinned underneath, looked up at Long Qing’er, who was firmly hugging her around the waist, unsure how she should express her misery.

Just as she thought of someone, the heavens would send them as if to tease her.

“Junior Sister Wenxin, long time no see. You’ve grown much.” Long Qing’er contentedly pressed Ye Wenxin down, greedily breathing in Ye Wenxin’s scent. She could not help feeling that Ye Wenxin’s body smelled much sweeter than the Thousand Li Fragrance.

Mid-speech, Long Qing’er’s eyes carried a hint of weariness, as if she had not slept well at all lately due to mental stress.

Noticing Long Qing’er’s mental state, she knew it was the Eldest Princess’s arrival that had put great mental pressure on Long Qing’er. After a brief thought, she stopped struggling and continued, “Are you very tired?”

“Mmhm.”

“Then sleep.”

With this, Long Qing’er did not hold back. She drifted to sleep while holding Ye Wenxin.

One night passed wordlessly, only for Ye Wenxin to wake up with a sore waist and back; in the end, the Secret Guard still sent her to morning practice.

Just as Ye Wenxin thought that was all there was to Long Qing’er coming to greet her, the next night, Qing’er came again.

At each meeting, Long Qing’er would fall asleep within three seconds. Ye Wenxin’s patience was wearing thin; it seemed that after Long Qing’er had come out of closed-door training this time, her role had become that of a long pillow.

On the third day of being a pillow, Ye Wenxin could not take it anymore and protested.

“Still sleeping! Senior Sister, you’ve changed. You want to sleep on me again?!”

“Junior Sister, you don’t know how hard closed-door training is. I even developed internal demons.” There was no unruly and crafty behavior, but Long Qing’er still acted coquettishly with Ye Wenxin.
