Chapter 30 – His Little Wife Doesn’t Seem to Have Any Worldly Desires for Him Anymore
After dinner, as usual, Rong Jingchen cleaned up and brought the empty bowls to the kitchen to wash.
Ye Muqi followed him into the kitchen, leaning casually against the doorway. She didn’t speak, just stared at Rong Jingchen.
After a while, Rong Jingchen noticed she hadn’t left and asked in confusion, “What are you looking at?”
For a split second, Rong Jingchen even suspected he might’ve accidentally gotten rice on himself without noticing—though that seemed unlikely.
“No reason, I just think you look really handsome in your uniform. It’s very attractive!” Ye Muqi replied confidently, openly admiring him.
She genuinely couldn’t get enough—she just loved how Rong Jingchen looked in his military uniform. It hit her aesthetic sweet spot perfectly. What was that popular fan phrase again?
Please weld that uniform onto Rong Jingchen. That was her most honest thought.
Handsome, full of charm, overflowing with testosterone!
Rong Jingchen: “……”
His little wife was very straightforward.
He didn’t respond. He just lowered his head and continued washing dishes. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing muscular arms. But the corners of his lips curled up slightly, involuntarily.
Seeing that he didn’t reply, Ye Muqi suddenly felt like some rogue woman flirting with an innocent man. How was she any different from the lovestruck original version of herself?
Was he angry?
“Ahem… I was just joking,” Ye Muqi chuckled, then added seriously, “I have to get up early to go into the city tomorrow. I’m afraid I’ll sleep in. Since you wake up early, remember to wake me up, okay?”
“Alright.”
It’s just waking someone up—not a big deal.
Ye Muqi dashed back to her room, grabbed her pajamas, and headed to the bathroom.
After Rong Jingchen finished washing the dishes, Ye Muqi was still in the shower. The little accessories she had bought earlier were scattered on the table. One was missing—probably taken by Ye Muqi.
Rong Jingchen gathered the scattered accessories together. As he looked at these girlish items and listened to the sounds in the house, he suddenly felt that the once cold and quiet military compound now had a touch of home.
Ye Muqi came out after her shower, wearing a cute little nightdress with a strawberry-patterned hair clip on her bangs—she looked adorable.
“I’m done. You go ahead.”
“Mm…”
“Then I’m going to bed. Good night.”
Without waiting for Rong Jingchen to reply, she went straight into her room and firmly closed the door.
Rong Jingchen looked at the closed door, then at his still-open room door. His feelings were suddenly… complicated.
What now?
His little wife really didn’t seem to have any worldly desires for him?
He had already mentally prepared himself to be a proper husband to her, but in the end…
Things weren’t going quite the way he’d imagined.
…
The night passed peacefully. The next morning, Rong Jingchen got up on time, and after washing up, he remembered that Ye Muqi had asked him to wake her. So he walked to her bedroom door.
Knock knock knock—
He knocked on the door.
It was completely silent inside. No response at all.
“Ye Muqi, time to get up.” Rong Jingchen called out and knocked a bit harder.
Still no sound from inside—like there was no one in there at all.
Bam bam bam—
He knocked even louder, but Ye Muqi still didn’t react. Who knew how soundly she was sleeping?
Only then did Rong Jingchen realize why Ye Muqi had looked so serious when asking him to wake her. He thought it would be a simple task, but now…
It might be a challenge!
He tried the doorknob. It wasn’t locked.
After a brief pause, he opened the door and walked in.
After all, she had told him to wake her up, and this was her first day going to work—being late wouldn’t be good.
“Ye Muqi?” Rong Jingchen entered. “Time to—”
His words got stuck in his throat as he abruptly turned around, his handsome face flushing red.
On the bed, Ye Muqi, apparently feeling hot, had kicked the blanket off entirely. Her nightdress had ridden up to her waist due to her unrestrained sleeping posture.
Her skin was fair—especially the parts untouched by the sun. Her slim waist and long, snow-white legs, even at a glance, were deeply seared into Rong Jingchen’s mind. His mouth suddenly felt dry.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed subconsciously.
He shut his eyes—but even with them closed, the image became even more vivid. His breathing grew heavier.
He stood there for a while, trying to calm himself from the sudden visual impact.
Though he and Ye Muqi were officially married, they hadn’t shared the duties of a real married couple yet.
Rong Jingchen, face still flushed, finally composed himself. He turned around, quickly grabbed the blanket, and covered her up—but that glimpse of whiteness had already burned itself into his memory.
He suddenly felt that waking Ye Muqi up was harder than any mission he had ever completed in the military.
If it were one of his soldiers, he’d yank them up and make them run ten laps around the training field to wake up properly!
But this soft little girl wasn’t one of his soldiers, and pulling her up like that…
Would be way too rough, right?
“Ye Muqi, wake up!” Rong Jingchen gave her a gentle shake, but his voice was a bit hoarse.
After a few shakes, she finally started to stir.
Ye Muqi half-opened her eyes, still groggy, turning her head toward him. Her eyes were barely slits—clearly still not awake.
“What time is it?” she mumbled sleepily, voice slightly nasal—it sounded like she was being coquettish to Rong Jingchen.
“Six-thirty.” He paused for a few seconds, responding a beat late.
He always got up early—arriving at the base by around seven for an hour of morning exercise before regular training.
“Oh, that early…” Ye Muqi grumbled unhappily and buried her face into the pillow.
She stretched, then kicked off the blanket Rong Jingchen had just pulled over her—revealing her pale skin once again.
“……” Rong Jingchen stared at the smooth skin before him, and his ears began to burn. “I’ve done my job. I’m leaving now.”
He turned and swiftly left the room.
Back in bed, Ye Muqi lay there for quite a while before fully waking up. She slowly sat up, scratched her messy hair, and yawned.
When she came out of the room, Rong Jingchen was already gone. On the table, money had been placed under one of the accessories she’d left out the night before—clearly left for her.
“He just woke me up—why was he in such a rush to leave?” Ye Muqi mumbled, walking toward the bathroom.
Didn’t even stay for breakfast?
