Chapter 2
Dark and narrow spaces offered a bit of a sense of security—but just a bit.
The blanket was pulled away. Xiao Zhou looked down at her. Faced with those teary eyes about to cry again, he could only soften his voice a little, though it still came out hard and blunt.
“Stop crying.”
“Wuwuwu, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hit you with that!” The woman’s tears fell like they were free of cost.
Xiao Zhou rubbed his forehead, clearly annoyed. “I have a general idea of what happened. I don’t blame you.”
“Really?” Bai Jiaojiao instantly stopped crying, her dewy eyes looking at him with lingering wariness.
Afraid of scaring her into tears again, Xiao Zhou looked away and calmly analyzed, “We’re married. Our relationship isn’t good. We’re even about to get divorced.”
Bai Jiaojiao softly responded, “That’s right. You’re so smart.”
No wonder he was the ruthless villain who could fight and strategize, kill without blinking.
Xiao Zhou glanced at her, his expression easing a bit, and continued his deductions: “I don’t want to divorce you, so I forced myself on you tonight. You resisted and hit me with a vase. Today was also our first time.”
Then he noticed a few dried bloodstains on the spot where she had shrunk away—different from the ones he had shed.
Bai Jiaojiao looked at the man’s side profile in shock.
No, how did he come to that conclusion?
“No, it was me who wanted the divorce. I forced you tonight…” she hurriedly explained.
Xiao Zhou spoke sharply, “If you forced me, why did you hit me with a vase?”
Bai Jiaojiao was speechless. She couldn’t exactly say she panicked when she first transmigrated into this world.
“I know you’ve got a problem with me, but given the circumstances…” Xiao Zhou looked at her with those deep, unreadable black eyes, dead serious. “I’ll take responsibility.”
Bai Jiaojiao shook her head. “No need, really. Since we were going to—”
Xiao Zhou pressed his lips together, the look in his eyes darkening, as if to say: Why do you despise me that much?
Bai Jiaojiao’s heart tensed. Afraid of bruising the villain’s ego and earning his grudge, she quickly changed her tune, “But since things have come to this, we can give it another try. After all, we’ve already… done everything.”
“Mm.” His voice gave nothing away.
Bai Jiaojiao quickly changed the subject. “It’s late. Let’s tidy up and go to the hospital tomorrow.”
She went to pick up her clothes but realized they were all torn. She had no choice but to grab one of Xiao Zhou’s shirts, put it on, and quickly walked to the wardrobe to grab another outfit before hurrying into the small bathroom.
During the entire process, she could feel a cold gaze tracking her every move.
Xiao Zhou observed the room and noticed that she avoided exposing herself. That’s why she wore his shirt to get clothes.
His body inexplicably felt a bit heated.
From the look in the woman’s eyes, he could tell their relationship wasn’t exactly what he had deduced. But whenever he tried to get her to explain more, she would fall apart crying. For now, that explanation was the only one that made sense.
Xiao Zhou didn’t like this empty-headed feeling—but at the moment, there was nothing he could do. He couldn’t remember anything.
Meanwhile, Bai Jiaojiao looked at herself in the mirror. Her appearance was exactly the same as before she transmigrated.
The only difference: her chest was bigger, her skin snow-pale, and she looked seductive in every pose. With her slightly upturned eyes and effortless charm, wearing the man’s army-green shirt, she absolutely looked like a key character in a smutty novel.
Thankfully, the villain wouldn’t have feelings for her—otherwise she was afraid she’d lose her chastity again tonight.
With that thought, Bai Jiaojiao suddenly wasn’t scared anymore. She pushed open the bathroom door.
She was still damp, wearing a long, floral nightgown that covered most of her body. Her eyes were as dewy as a startled fawn. The red marks on her neck were signs of the earlier madness.
Xiao Zhou instinctively stood up and approached her.
The woman’s face turned crimson instantly, especially when her gaze dropped to a certain part of his body. She backed away quickly and nearly tripped on the uneven dirt floor—only escaping disaster thanks to a large hand that caught her.
Xiao Zhou paused, catching a faint floral scent. Her hand was so small and soft—like it would break with just a squeeze.
“What do you want?” the woman tugged at her hand, trying to break free.
Xiao Zhou could’ve easily restrained her, but he let go. She backed up against the wall, accidentally hitting her head with a loud thunk.
“Wuwuwu…”
Bai Jiaojiao clutched the back of her head, tears spilling down her face.
Xiao Zhou stared at her, his expression dark and complicated.
He’d never met someone who cried this much. Though, at the moment, the only person in his memory was her—and he had no idea how to stop her tears.
Was she made of water or something? She cried like a river.
Seeing him staring, Bai Jiaojiao grew more afraid. Her tears wouldn’t stop, and his gaze was scarier than the pain in her head. “Xiao Zhou, can you please go take a shower first?”
Please stop looking at her. She was going to shatter—he wouldn’t even need to lift a finger.
Xiao Zhou paused, surprised that she was still worried about him despite crying like this.
“Okay.”
Bai Jiaojiao wiped her tears, not daring to look at his shirtless body. She finally calmed down—until she remembered he hadn’t brought clothes in with him. And the hot water would run out soon.
Would the villain kill her in a rage because he couldn’t take a proper hot shower?
With that terrifying thought, Bai Jiaojiao quickly fetched the hot water and some clothes. Carefully knocking on the door, she gathered her courage.
“Can you open the door? I brought you hot water, clothes, and a towel.”
Xiao Zhou didn’t actually care whether the water was hot or cold—he cared even less about the clothes. But when he heard that soft, timid little rabbit-like voice from outside the door, a certain part of him stirred again. Images from earlier flashed through his mind.
He suddenly understood why he didn’t want a divorce.
But now, if he pushed her further, this little bunny would cry again—so he had to hold himself back.
“Okay.”
Okay what, exactly?
Bai Jiaojiao froze, standing stiffly at the door. When he didn’t open it, she worried that he might think her service was inadequate. With no choice, she braced herself and slowly pushed the door open.
