Chapter 36: The Radiance of Civilization!
“Our combat strength is fine.”
Staring at the simulator text, Su Ze murmured softly.
Around day 80 counted only as the early-mid stage of the doomsday Tier-2 period.
The strongest Awakeners were merely Tier-2, at best they might possess one extra kotodama arts.
Opponents of that level certainly were no match for him.
After all, with the Talents Fallen Benefaction and Invoking Gods, he was practically invincible even in the Tier-6 stage.
Even so, it was not as if nothing in the Tier-2 stage could threaten him.
After all, there were still firearms.
Perhaps the simulation text simply did not spell it out, and in truth the main threat he would face inside the simulation would be firearms.
“Good thing I have Fallen Benefaction.”
Whenever he faced these one-against-many situations, Su Ze could not help sighing to himself like this.
In conflicts among humans, the Talent Fallen Benefaction was wonderfully useful; as long as he kept killing enemies, he could refill endlessly.
The only pity was that the various monsters in the Contaminated Zones could not recharge Fallen Benefaction.
He refocused on the present.
Su Ze scrolled the simulator text back up.
Starting from day 78, he read it through again.
Without question, the fuse was Qin Yushi’s death at the hands of her attackers in the simulation.
Perhaps, from the perspective of this very moment,
Su Ze did not yet strongly regard Qin Yushi as one of his own.
But it was different inside the simulation.
It was the 80th day after doomsday descended; heaven knew what stories he and Qin Yushi had experienced during the time the simulation did not describe, but the outcome was obvious.
Since he had invited Qin Yushi when heading for the official Safe Zone, the simulated him clearly treated her as one of his own.
And when his woman was murdered… could he endure it? Of course not.
“The factions inside Safe Zone SC-3 are a tangled mess…”
Su Ze’s gaze swept over the simulation text.
He could not help but sneer inwardly; human nature is what it is, even after the world became like that, some people still could not suppress their lust for power.
In short, it was hardly surprising.
…………
Day 89: The Safe Zone massacre you carried out came to an end; after hearing the full story, many people actually became your fans, and your reputation skyrocketed.
Day 90: You returned to SC-3 and settled down; for your own private aims, you began to cultivate a loyal department and also dived deep into various official projects.
Day 101: You left Su City for BC-10, where the authorities had established an intelligence agency, and you would serve as its leader.
Day 102: Upon taking office, you started handling affairs; relying on the Talent Global Link, you began to gather intelligence on a large scale.
Day 110: You and your subordinates worked efficiently, and the number of Safe Zones with stable communication channels surpassed 500.
Day 113: The authorities formally drafted the Fireseed Plan; to cope with an ever-worsening doomsday environment, you decided to select suitable Safe Zones as the plan’s drop points…
The Safe Zones executing the Fireseed Plan would pool resources and excavate underground, intending to build subterranean shelters, yet you knew it was futile.
Day 115: heavy fog.
Day 116: You gathered intelligence that someone had encountered an indescribable horror inside the heavy fog; the rest of the party vanished, and the survivor who escaped aged overnight and completely lost his mind, so you filed this report.
Day 125: Under your guidance, your Awakener squad concentrated on breaking through and advanced to Tier-3 Awakeners, and one of them conveniently awakened a kotodama arts.
Day 130: With a wealth of Tier-3 Awakener data, you confirmed the birth rule of kotodama arts…
When an Awakener advanced, he might simultaneously obtain a kotodama arts, and you speculated that kotodama arts could also stem from the Awakener’s own imagination.
Day 135: You continued collecting information related to kotodama arts.
Day 165: heavy fog.
Day 177: Another batch of Awakeners advanced to Tier-4; after compiling intelligence from many Safe Zones, you reached another conclusion…
The six spells, or rather six classes, each correspond to a vague meaning, and the kotodama arts an Awakener possesses always match the six spells; for example, Awakeners who choose the Starry Sky spell often awaken healing or support-oriented kotodama arts.
Day 180: You collected a vast amount of kotodama arts data, yet found it hard to grade them.
… kotodama arts are obtained at a small probability during awakening, and they may originate from the Awakener’s own imagination.
The six spells each correspond to a certain vague meaning.
Su Ze unhurriedly jotted the key information down on paper.
Just as expected…
The Talent Global Link had proven its worth.
By aggregating massive data, he distilled some useful intelligence.
He even collected the relatively rare information regarding “containment objects,” or so-called mythic creatures.
Someone had seen a terrifying entity in the heavy fog.
Much like one of Su Ze’s earlier simulations, he lost his way in the heavy fog and then ran into a horror.
After that he kicked the bucket, and even Fallen Benefaction could not save him.
“What exactly are those unknown horrors?”
Su Ze rubbed his chin and muttered inwardly.
If he talked only about the indescribable beings encountered in the heavy fog…
He personally preferred to call those horrors “mythic creatures.”
But if he included the other terrifying beings he had met in previous simulations, and even counted Avalon, he would rather call them “containment objects.”
“We can only see whether later simulations will offer more related intel.”
Shaking his head, Su Ze set the matter aside for now.
Then he continued the simulation.
Day 182: A Chosen One appeared in your Safe Zone, yet the chosen man did not flee; he begged you to kill him to protect the Safe Zone.
Day 183: You studied the Chosen One but found nothing, so you granted his request and ordered your men to kill him.
Day 185: Other official Safe Zones also saw Chosen Ones appear one after another; none of them escaped, all chose to die, sacrificing themselves to preserve the Safe Zones.
Day 188: Luck seemed poor; many key Safe Zones, including some executing the Fireseed Plan, all produced Chosen Ones.
Day 190: Feedback indicated that most Chosen Ones sacrificed themselves to protect their Safe Zones, but a few fled and were now being hunted.
Day 193: Because a Chosen One had not been killed, a Safe Zone fell, became a Contaminated Zone, and the evacuation caused heavy casualties.
Day 215: After observing much Chosen One intelligence, you reached a startling conclusion…
If the appearance of a Chosen One does not result in large-scale deaths, the frequency of Chosen Ones may increase, although nearly half the researchers disagree.
Day 233: heavy fog…
If the appearance of a Chosen One does not result in heavy casualties, then the occurrence rate of Chosen Ones may rise.
Another new entry appeared on the paper.
Yet this piece of intelligence had not been 100% confirmed.
Su Ze merely noted it down first.
After all, erroneous intel had appeared before, and only after multiple simulations yielded the correct data did Su Ze erase the mistakes one by one.
“So a considerable number of people chosen as Chosen Ones never chose to run away…”
Su Ze fell silent, feeling the disparity among people.
These unlucky souls who became Chosen Ones…
What were they thinking when they chose to sacrifice themselves?
Sacrifice themselves to save everyone?
Or to safeguard the Fireseed Plan?
Or something grander… preserving human civilization?
And what did those Chosen Ones who chose self-preservation think when they fled?
That if they survived the tribulation, they could still save their Safe Zone?
Or…
“All of you can go to hell, at least come die with me?”
